If I have to actually explain it to you, then I feel sorry for you.
If you want to support this kind of crap, then go ahead. But then don't complain the next time you pre-order a game & it doesn't end up working properly upon release.
I am actually impressed by the comments in this section up to this point! Don't let Sammy's blind Sony fanboyism (sorry Sammy) try to get you to buy this turd. Buying this game now would just send these companies & the industry, as a whole, an awful message.
I don't care how the game looks, sounds or plays now. It should have been done at launch. They even delayed the thing for a year & still couldn't get it done.
I don't mind HD Remasters. I actually liked all the PS3 HD collections and thought they were amazing value. But those collections didn't come out 1 yr. after the PS3 was released. They came out long into the PS3's lifespan. By the time those were released, the PS2 was all but dead & buried.
But this PS4 remake situation is totally different to me. Most of these games just came out a couple years ago. And there is very little to no improvements to these products.
Take the RE Remaster for example. That is a remake/remaster I can get behind. It is a Gamecube game that has been improved to a huge extent. If Gearbox's next game gets released with some day 1 patch because it's a buggy mess, then I would ask them.........did you really need to use the manpower to make this collection?
Oh and I would also tell them to piss off for Aliens: Colonial Marines. Lol.
Yea this website is filled with a ridiculous amount of Sony fanboys who constantly make excuses for unacceptable incompetence. I love all my PlayStation products, but I am also not blind to the fact that Sony is an irritating company to support sometimes.
And I agree with you on the fact that the "10% off" discount is a joke. It's actually more insulting to me than if they would've just done nothing. This is just some sham to get people onto the overpriced PSN store.
First off.....Sony having PSN down over X-mas is not "out of their control". They got hit with an attack, but does that give them an excuse for how they handled the communication to it's customers during that attack? Or the fact that they don't have their security measures up to snuff to prevent an attack even though they take your money? And it's not just this isolated incident with Sony. That would be different. But Sony has shown a pattern of imcompetence when it comes to it's PSN going down over the years.
Secondly......trivial things? So if I went to the gas station, paid for my gas, then went to the pump to find that I couldn't pump my gas because somebody ruined all the pumps making them not work, would that gas station owe me my money back. Absolutely. They don't deserve a medal or a bunch of praise for returning my money, however. They would just be doing something they should do so I would get the product (or value of that product) that I originally paid for.
Third.....if everyone had this laid back, "who cares?there are bigger world problems than this, blah, blah....." attitude, these companies would take advantage of that & stuff like this would happen even more than it does. Obviously there are "far more worse things going on in the world", but that's not the point.
Why would you "thank" Sony for doing something they should do & just giving you something back, that you already paid for?
If Sony actually wanted to do the right thing here, it would give every PSN user a free month of PS+ . Thay way they make sure to include any & all customers who got screwed over on X-mas day after they opened up their new PlayStation console & found that it won't work online.
But praising them for giving out a paltry 5 days of PS+ to people who were already signed up & should rightfully get those days back anyways is ridiculous.
Good lord! Yet another PS3 remaster job? Give me a break. The gaming industry is getting worse than the movie industry. No more original ideas.
While this is a good value, technically speaking, it's beyond the point of ridiculous at this point.
Create. New. Games. Every second wasted on all these stupid PS3 remasters is time better spent doing ANYTHING else. For example, why don't these greedy, idiotic companies spend the manpower to actually make their new PS4 games work correctly out of the box instead of releasing glitchy turds for $60?
This "reward" is an absolute joke & a reach to get people to spend $ on the heavily overpriced PSN store. Sony should be ashamed at themselves for even having the stones to act like they are doing, us consumers, a favor here.
And the fact that it's only for the weekend makes it even worse. Just another lousy & transparent PR move. Pathetic.
I have not confirmed for myself that it works, I have just read on various forum threads that it does. So good luck! Let me know if it does, as I am curious & may buy the game.
Yea the best way to do figure out if the PS3 versions of these cross-gen games (if you can't find actual PS3 reviews) is to either check out the PS3 version customer reviews on Amazon (like you said) or.......
Look at what company actually developed the game. Not published, but developed. As an example, if you look at the PS3 version of Advanced Warfare, it was not developed by Sledgehammer Games. It was "farmed out" to another company. That is usually a dead giveaway thay the PS3 version will be some watered down, throw away port.
In the case of The Evil Within.......that was basically a PS3 game up through most of development, but then upgraded to PS4. So like you said, that game would be safe. The developers of Alien: Isolation have said that they took the PS3 version seriously, so that would be safe. In other words, it just takes some time to do some research & go on a game-by-game basis.
But I would avoid Shadow Of Mordor, Dragon Age, & Advanced Warfare big time.
Thx for the info. Yea that is weird about it not working with other apps running. Maybe you are right about the RAM idea.
It could be that the game is not "officially" available for the PSTV, but it will work under certain conditions. That would explain why Sony has not said certain games are compatible when there are other games that do work even though Sony isn't saying they do. They may not "officially" work under Sony's guidelines or something.
I know Age Of Zombies & Soul Sactifice Delta (just Delta, not the regular version) are 2 examples of games Sony isn't saying are compatible, but users have confirmed they work. I have also heard Resogun works, but yet again, not a peep from Sony.
Btw, hopefully the PS4 will do so well this next year (in terms of truely great games) that companies can stop with the multi-platform releases & Sony can finally lay the PS3 to rest so this isn't even a thing anymore.
I think that same exclusive deal involved this RE remake too. And there have been rumors, since this remaster, that RE0 will get the same treatment.
So hopefully whatever deal was in place has expired and we get RE0 too. Capcom will probably wait to see how this remaster is received & how well it sells.
Yea as a long time RE fan myself, I just replayed RE:CV recently on PS3 and those tank controls have not aged well. At all. I kinda got used to it, but it felt like work. I love that this remaster fixed that issue. I absolutely loved this REmake on the GC, so I hope this remaster lives up to my sky high expectations.
While I understand the focus should be on the PS4 version & agree with that point, I think there is a point that you & your staff here at Push Square overlook quite frequently.....
NOT EVERYONE HERE HAS A PS4. A lot of people still use, play games on, & purchase games for their PS3. And my point is just not about this RE Remaster, but about all the multi-platform releases this site covers. There was no article or review about how the PS3 version of Destiny, for example, turned out.
I bet most here don't even know that the PS3 versions of Shadow Of Mordor & Dragon Age turned out very poorly & should not be purchased. Or that LBP 3 is, essentially, the same game on both platforms. These are just a few examples of information that a website devoted to PlayStation game news, reviews, & information should probably be aware of & share with it's readers.
It's not like you guys have to cover the Xbox One, 360, & the Wii U like most other sites. You only have the PS4, PS3, & Vita (& by extension the PSTV) to worry about. Don't get me wrong, I do like your site, visit it quite frequently, & plan on remaining loyal to that fact, but this has been an oversight for far too long......in my opinion.
After playing the ultra-repetative, over-hyped original Assassin's Creed, I never went back to this over-blown series. I have heard AC2 is amazing & am interested in giving that game a shot, but after seeing what Ubisoft has done to this series (yearly releases blow), I think I will pass.
Oh and I will not support developers who release unfinished, buggy messes. And this newest AC would certainly qualify.
Yea that is a great question since this is a PLAYSTATION website. But, yet again, a review of a PS4/PS3 game doesn't even bother to mention that this is available on the PS3. It's getting really old and is just ridiculous.
Last I checked, my dualshock 3 had a SQUARE button on it. And it is called the PLAYSTATION 3. But heaven forbid this site miss out on wasting time reporting PS4 sales numbers over & over or review some obscure Vita/PS4 indie platformer that 14 people are going to buy.
So instead they pass on taking the time it takes to check out a Resident Evil game on the #1 console of "last-gen"? Weak. The fact that the reviewer didn't even mention that the game is available on PS3 in the article is unprofessional. Even IGN does that much.
I love how everyone that owns a PS4 already has all these ideas & opinions, but shouldn't we really only care about either PS3/Xbox 360 gamers who haven't made the jump yet or possible Xbox One gamers who want to switch (when it comes to this discussion, I mean)?
PS4 owners.........Sony already got your $. You ponied up $400, so go try to find a game worth playing on that thing & let's hear from some PS3/Xbox owners to see what they want Sony to do to entice the opening of their wallets.
I, for one, want a price drop, bigger hard drive, & more exclusive PS4 games that don't underwhelm or are released in some buggy, embarassing condition.
I DO NOT want another year of PS3 remasters, indie titles, PSN problems, & cross-gen titles that are basically just as good on my PS3.
After that, my wallet may be flexible. I will not, however, pay $400 for a gaming system that just had a pretty average year (at best) & isn't even close to being better than the "last-gen" console I currently own. The Sony fanboyism at this site is obvious, but I am not one. Sony has to earn my money.
Reading most of the comments in this article is almost making me sick. You people that are in here praising this game deserve to get screwed over by the next big AAA game that you pre-ordered.
And people wonder why companies don't give a rat's @$$ about how consumers feel? Because most of you are just sheep that follow the herd.
Sony & Evolution Studios release a game in disgraceful condition to a point where people should sue them for it. They take an eternity and a lifetime to "fix" it. They have lied about the PS+ version on multiple occasions. And because they give you some free lousy pieces of DLC (that were pulled from the main game anyways) & slightly drop the price (in select regions).......some of you flock to the game like it's bread & you are starving on a deserted island.
I completely agree and anyone who actually purchases this turd of a game now is just asking for more buggy game launches down the line (not to mention the lie about a PS+ version) as this sends an AWFUL message to these companies.
Hell, if you are going to get bent over by these companies, at least make them buy you dinner & drinks first.
I wouldn't go strictly by Sony's site for info on compatible games. Freedom Wars isn't even on that list, and it's been compatible since launch. And there are many others. Google the games you are interested in with "PSTV compatible" in the search.
In other words, Sony isn't even bothering to update their own info page about their product. Just a disgraceful & embarrassing lack of effort on their part.
I deal with them in God Of War, but why are they even still in games? I have never met anyone who actually likes them, most reviewers rip them in their reviews, & it feels like an extremely dated gameplay mechanic from the PS2 days.
My 2015 prediction is that Sammy will write 593 more articles where he praises Sony in a ridiculous fashion, recite sales figures about how the PS4 is "unstoppable", & only mention the screw ups by Sony by saying......."Well, some gamers here at this site have an issue with (insert dumb Sony move here), we here at Push Square are quite happy......(and then he'll list off how many PS4's have sold again). Lol.
Oh and The Order is going to disappoint many upon it's release, but Uncharted 4 won't.
.......and you lose most of the good games on the Vita. Since no company is going to waste resources patching their game for a product Sony isn't even going to promote, then PSTV will remain a micro-console missing almost all the Vita's big games. It's a shame, really.
Exactly. While I agree with some of this article (especially the part about being sick of indie 8-bit puzzle platformers), the part about the PS4 having a lot of games may be true......but deceiving.
Almost all of the PS4 games I want, I can get on my PS3. And there are exceptions (Shadow Of Mordor & Dragon Age), but almost all of them are the same game except for the obvious bump in graphics. So why even make the jump to PS4 at this point? To play Knack or Driveclub? Please.
And exclusives ARE important. They are what drive long term console sales. The Wii outsold everybody last gen but did that make it a better console than the PS3 or 360? Of course not. My point is.......it's great that sales are strong. But give us exclusive PS4 games that are not buggy & are actually good. 3rd party titles & PS3 remasters are not going to defeat Microsoft.
And this is one of the reasons why I am waiting for the next model of PS4......a bigger hard drive. The PS4 shipping with that small of a stock hard drive was ridiculous.
Uncharted's multiplayer was an unnecessary, but expected thing when it was unveiled in UC2. All of these companies want to make a quick $ by getting people to buy map packs & other multiplayer DLC.
I gave it a shot......didn't hate it......didn't love it either. I could really care less about it. Well, it does annoy me, just a little, that my trophy % looks like garbage on the 2nd & 3rd games because of all the stupid DLC multiplayer trophies they added. Oh well.
As long as it doesn't take an ounce of development time making the story & campaign better, then I don't care.
Yea, I am excited they are taking the series in a darker direction. While I love the 'Indiana Jones meets Summer Action/Comedy Movie' vibe of the first three, by UC3 the series had a a feeling of.....this is gonna get stale real quick if they don't evolve this series.
I have always loved the Nathan Drake & Elena romance plotline, so I am hoping we get more of that, but maybe in a background kind of way. The last two games ended with such heartfelt moments between them, so hopefully UC4 doesn't ruin that.
While I thought 'The Last Of Us' was slightly overrated (WAY too much repetitious combat), if Naughty Dog takes some of that feeling of tension & dread & mixes it with Uncharted's lighthearted adventure/comedy feel......it could be awesome.
My PS3 backlog is insane. Like you said, 30+ that I don't even own yet. That doesn't count the 10 or so I own but haven't played yet. I think I have a problem. Lol.
My PS3 refuses to let me get a PS4, so......yeah. If I even mention a PS4 around my PS3, it spits out whatever Blu-Ray it has currently inside of it at a dangerous velocity. Today, it almost killed the cat with a Killzone 3 disc.
It's starting to get a little awkward, to be honest.
You bring up a great point about the internet side of this argument. Especially considering how flighty the PSN can be sometimes. My internet is usually pretty stable (knock on wood), but paying $20 a month to Sony for something that relies solely on an internet connection right after the latest PSN fiasco........would feel risky.

I deal with them in God Of War, but why are they even still in games? I have never met anyone who actually likes them, most reviewers rip them in their reviews, & it feels like an extremely dated gameplay mechanic from the PS2 days.
Re: You'll See Sony's Logo on These Capcom Games
Milking the Street Fighter series dry & releasing another awful RE: Revealtions game.....ugh.
I am excited for the RE remake & RE0 (Oh it's coming). Now get to remastering RE 2 already! And give us a revamped Dino Crisis & Omimusha!
Re: You're Not Even Safe When P.T. Is Paused on PS4
@RawShark
Demon's Souls is NOT the best game of last-gen. Not even close.
But not being able to pause games would be annoying actually.
Re: You're Not Even Safe When P.T. Is Paused on PS4
@Davros79
Yea this was obviously staged. And that chick is maybe the most annoying moron on the planet.
With that being said, however, the game looks like it could be good.
Re: Naughty Dog: We're Making Uncharted 4 a Game We Want to Play
This is great to hear. I am so sick of open world games.
Re: Your Very Own Shower Dream Is Nearing in Friday the 13th: The Video Game
This game will get a 26 on Metacritic.
Re: Feature: What Are the Stories That Will Shape PS4 and Vita in 2015?
My 2015 prediction is that Sammy will write 593 more articles where he praises Sony in a ridiculous fashion, recite sales figures about how the PS4 is "unstoppable", & only mention the screw ups by Sony by saying......."Well, some gamers here at this site have an issue with (insert dumb Sony move here), we here at Push Square are quite happy......(and then he'll list off how many PS4's have sold again). Lol.
Oh and The Order is going to disappoint many upon it's release, but Uncharted 4 won't.
Re: Retailers Reduce PlayStation TV as US Consumers Tune Out
@Malouff
.......and you lose most of the good games on the Vita. Since no company is going to waste resources patching their game for a product Sony isn't even going to promote, then PSTV will remain a micro-console missing almost all the Vita's big games. It's a shame, really.
Re: Leave the Gun, Take This Mafia III Tease
Never played the Mafia games. Mafia II is in my PS3 backlog though.
Re: Feature: Why the PS4 Is Selling So Extraordinarily Well
@BLPs
Re: Nyko's Nifty PS4 Data Bank Will Solve Your Storage Woes
And this is one of the reasons why I am waiting for the next model of PS4......a bigger hard drive. The PS4 shipping with that small of a stock hard drive was ridiculous.
Re: Dozens More PS4, PS3, Vita Discounts Deploy on the EU PlayStation Store
I just got Ground Zeroes in the US version of this sale.
Re: PS4 Exclusive Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Will Obviously Have a Multiplayer Mode
Re: Why Does Nate Drake Go Treasure Hunting in PS4's Uncharted 4?
Re: People Are Buying Plenty of PS4 Games, Too
@ToddlerNaruto
My PS3 backlog is insane. Like you said, 30+ that I don't even own yet. That doesn't count the 10 or so I own but haven't played yet. I think I have a problem. Lol.
Re: Store Update: 6th January 2015 (North America)
I will be getting Duke Nukem 3D as soon as my wallet has more than dust inside of it.
Re: People Are Buying Plenty of PS4 Games, Too
I have zero games for PS4.
Re: Watch PlayStation Titles Get Destroyed in the Awesome Games Done Quick Marathon
Why would anyone do this? How is it fun to play games this way? People are weird. Lol
Re: Talking Point: Has PlayStation Now's Subscription Service Put You on Cloud Nine?
@Knux
You bring up a great point about the internet side of this argument. Especially considering how flighty the PSN can be sometimes. My internet is usually pretty stable (knock on wood), but paying $20 a month to Sony for something that relies solely on an internet connection right after the latest PSN fiasco........would feel risky.
