Everyone's favourite masked maniac Jason Voorhees has been out of the interactive entertainment game for some time, but Friday the 13th is set to hack its way back into your hearts later this year as part of a brand new video game. EGM reports that the release is already in production for multiple platforms β you can pretty much bank on the PlayStation 4 being one of them β and is being helmed by an experienced studio. It'll apparently be an asymmetrical multiplayer escapade β presumably where one person will play as the murderous main character.
"With a new television series on the horizon, and plans announced for the thirteenth instalment of the film franchise, we felt that the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form," said director Sean S. Cunningham. "We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect." There's no other information just yet, but apparently more details will emerge from the bottom of the lake soon.

This sounds cool...but only because it sounds like an official version of a really cool looking indie game that's currently in production called Last Year.
Friday the 13th is without a doubt my favourite film franchise of all time, so I'll probably end up playing this. Even if it is absolute bunkum.
I dont get it. I just dont see how that movie franchise translates into a good videogame, asymetrical or otherwise. I could see a fighter round-up - Jsson, Freddy, Myers, Pinhead, Pumpkinhead, Chucky, Leatherface, Candyman and some of the lessor known ones. Not that that game would be good either, but at least you could have some fun fan service.
Sounds like that one kickstarter game.
Ughh, another 4v1 multiplayer game only. I'll pass, I've tried the evolve beta as well as several others over the years. I have no issue with people making multiplayer games but it seems many now are going multiplayer only which leaves those of us that prefer single player games out in the dust. I know there are tons of single player game so don't start flaming me, but some of the multiplayer ones look very good and just make me wish there was some sort of solo campaign to them.
The sounds great, I am very interested
I was interested until I saw "interactive" and that it would be focused on multi-player.
I'd love to play a single player focused Friday 13th though.
I would have liked to have played a Friday the 13th or a nightmare on elm street in an outlast type of mould. Exploring lake crystal or boiler rooms in your dreams like you did the asylum would be cool in my opinion
This game will get a 26 on Metacritic.
@rjejr Agreed. I have thought this about a lot of the franchises that are popping up for pure sake that at Some point in the past 3 decades they where the popular of the genre for the time. If they wanted to make it in any way like the film they should have given it to Telltale. The 4 v 1 could be interesting but really not fitting with the idea of unsuspecting teens being knocked off until the heroin clocks on and then its a cat and mouse game to the finish. This game will be 4 people with little fear, knowing what they are doing in a situation with no threat of actual harm.
Its a shame because i am a massive fan of 80's horror films and this could have been really good. But then the last time a game lived up to what i wanted it to be was probly PlayStation Metal Gear Solid lol
I am kinda weary on games based off of movie franchises. Some of them can be great but others just feel like a cheap cash in. I will at least rent this game since I am a fan of the series.
No. Just No!
Whatever happened to the Chucky game that was to come out on playstation 3? Also, does anyone remember the Friday The 13th game for the NES??? That was horrible enough. I do remember the Nightmare On Elm Street one, and that wasn't too bad. If they make this Friday a fun experience, it could be good. I think they should also do a Nightmare On Elm Street one too, but I would also like to know what happened to that Chucky game.
