Re: Talking Point: Did Sony Lie About PS5?

Justin113

The problem isnt that ‘oh no, they get to play games’, more so that they’re bringing the PS5 down to PS4 level. If they took a cyberpunk 2077 approach, make it as good as they can and if PS4 can run it or some version of it, or get its own port of it then fine, there’s no problem with that. Technology progresses that way and PS4 users can still get to experience the story or whatever.

But they’re just making PS4 games and slightly improving graphics. In which case why do we need a new generation at all? Perhaps we should just stick with the PS4 forever? I’m being sarcastic, but there’s simply no point upgrading gaming technology if all the games have to run well on 10 year old systems that were technically outdated shortly after their release to begin with. Most PS4 users will upgrade at some point and would probably rather have great next gen games to play when they do rather than a bunch of held back cross play ones that they already got to play.

And nowhere in their marketing did Sony imply that they weren’t going to make use of PS5 technology and features in their first party games. Where is the haptic feedback in most of these games for example? This isn’t cross play. It’s PS4 games with a shiny paint. Which renders the PS5 useless and takes away Sony’s main advantage over rivals which was always its first party titles. At this point a series X and PS4 combo is the best thing for a gamer to have.

Basically PS5 is a cheaply made oversized noisy console that plays last gen games. XBox is clearly better hardware but the first party games on Sony are better. But as long as you can play them on PS4, the PS5 is irrelevant.

Also let’s not pretend Sony cares about the PS4 user base. This is completely a financial decision. They know PS5 owners will buy it and settle for it, while still being able to milk the PS4 base which will remain larger as there is literally no incentive for them to upgrade. PS5 will potentially be the worst Sony generation of all if this doesn’t change soon.

Re: Guerrilla: Cross-Gen Has Not Limited Horizon Forbidden West in Any Way

Justin113

@Oriion No, difference with that was that cyberpunk was made for the highest end PC. It shouldn’t have been and wasn’t originally planned to be, but someone got all excited about what they could do with the latest technology and completely exposed the PS4 for what it is.

I’d be okay with that. Make it so ‘play PS4 at your own risk but this is a next gen game designed for next gen, you can upgrade it when you get a PS5’ would be fine.

But right now we’re just getting PS4 games with graphics updates.

Re: Guerrilla: Cross-Gen Has Not Limited Horizon Forbidden West in Any Way

Justin113

@Col_McCafferty because it’s just not going to be as good as it could be. And if you ever upgrade to a PS5 (but why would you?) you will be disappointed that they wasted a horizon, god of war and gran tourismo on yet another game for an old console that has tons of games and you have nothing to play that actually uses the new features you were sold on.

Re: God of War Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7 PS4 Versions Confirmed

Justin113

@Marquez I just feel that the PS5 should be developed for now. And if they’re able to make a PS4 game from it, great. Like a port or something that lacks features.

But what’s happening is they’re making PS4 games, that you can upgrade the graphics on a bit. So all the PS5 games are being limited to 8 year old hardware.

And the PlayStation 4 was never a technically great console to begin with. It’s really pushed the limits of what it can do. Cyberpunk 2077 completely exposed it, it just can’t run the best games so games have to be scaled down to accommodate it.

I also don’t see why the responsibility to PS4 users requires them to have these particular games. The thing has a huge library. They simply need to maintain ps plus and support for the existing games at this point while putting out Indy games and the occasional title that doesn’t require more power. No PS4 user is claiming they don’t have their money’s worth for the console.

If you make god of war for PS4 it’s not as good as it would be if you made it for PS5. And when those PS4 users upgrade, they’re going to be disappointed that they’re playing the exact same thing just a bit shinier. I don’t really see the incentive for them to upgrade at all at this point. Gran Tourismo for example was always a showcase for new hardware. It sold systems. A PS4 game isn’t going to sell the PS5, and it’s not going to be able to match a next gen Forza. PS4 is holding gaming back now.

Re: God of War Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7 PS4 Versions Confirmed

Justin113

@Denni5m sit next to it and play a PS5 game. Makes weird noises when you move the camera etc. The console is super quiet so you can hear it louder than you otherwise would. It’s also a frequency noise like a hearing aid so not everyone can hear it. But they all have it to some degree.

Re: God of War Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7 PS4 Versions Confirmed

Justin113

@Sakisa it’s not elitism at all.

There is no need to continue to support PS4 as it has a huge library and has reached the peak of what it can do.

Any game that has to accommodate 8 year old hardware is inferior to what it could be. Yes, PS4 games can still be good, but it’s absolutely holding gaming back from progressing further.

The selfish attitude here is yours. Either buy a new console or don’t get the latest games, this is the way it has always been.

Re: God of War Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7 PS4 Versions Confirmed

Justin113

@Sakisa and the new god of war will be a really limited game no better than the last few top PS4 games and when you finally get a PS5 you’ll be disappointed that they didn’t just make it for PS5. Then you’ll have to wait forever for one that is actually current. But you do you, enjoy holding back gaming for the rest of us.

Re: God of War Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7 PS4 Versions Confirmed

Justin113

Might sell my PS5. Horrible coil whine and Sony obviously aren’t behind the system.

Xbox series X seems a much better console overall. The only reason to go PS is the games and if they’re all coming out on PS4 there’s no reason for anyone to upgrade.

I’d honestly probably rather play on the PS4 and not have to put up with the horrible noise PS5 makes to be honest.

Re: Rumour: Decision to Bring Gran Turismo 7 to PS4 Made 'Fairly Recently'

Justin113

@Boucho11 problem is that it’s holding gaming back. The PS5 version of the game will be designed at least with the ten plus year old base PS4 in mind if not for that and simply upscaled.

PS4 cannot exceed what really should have been its last games, Ghost, TLOU2, FF7R,

So we’re all stuck at that level until Sony agrees to let it die. Very selfish attitude from PS4 users too I think - tons of games you can play on your system and this isn’t going anywhere and would still be here when you get a ps5. So your attitude essentially makes it a worse game for future you.

Re: Rumour: Decision to Bring Gran Turismo 7 to PS4 Made 'Fairly Recently'

Justin113

I haven’t played GT since the original, I’ve never played God of War and I didn’t play horizon. I loved GT but the others don’t look for me.

That being said, if they were PS5 exclusive right now when there isn’t many next gen games, I’d buy all 3. As it is, I won’t get any of them. If it’s just upscaled PS4 ports then there’s plenty of those around that I’ll probably enjoy more.

Re: Sure Sounds Like Horizon Forbidden West May Have Flying Mounts After All

Justin113

@Turismo4GT you’re missing the point that we get all a worse game so that you can play it now. Not just from graphics or haptic feedback, but the whole game design has to be catered around a 10 year plus system rather than a brand new one.

You could just wait to get a PS5 when you’re ready and play it then. It wouldn’t go anywhere. And it might actually inspire more people to get a PS5 if it was an exclusive.

It’s not about elitism. It’s about PS4 holding gaming back at this point, it can’t really go beyond what it has already reached. And there’s a great library of games on there to choose from, more than you can ever play. You don’t need this particular one.

Re: Sure Sounds Like Horizon Forbidden West May Have Flying Mounts After All

Justin113

@Richnj it’s not about justifying the PS5 purchase. It’s simply that the PS4 is at this point holding gaming back.

To make a cross platform game you need to develop for the weakest platform and upscale otherwise you end up with cyberpunk 2077.

If you’re developing for the PS4 then PS5 is essentially just getting the port plus whatever features they add. But any cherries you put on top of the ice cream doesn’t stop the ice cream from being cheap and tasteless. It won’t truly be next gen unless it’s designed for next gen.

Theres no real reason to do this besides profit. The PS4 was never technically that great of a console and struggles with these games now. It has a huge library of games you can play on it if you want to stick with it. It had a great life but it’s time to move forward into the next generation of gaming.

Re: Aloy Trends As Fans Discuss Horizon Forbidden West Hero

Justin113

@LordSteev Agree entirely. The women i hang out with would be putting on lots of make up if they had skin like the horizon girl.

I don’t get who is being targeted. I feel it’s transgenders and the gay community. It’s not women. Most women who play games like this bond with the character, they want their character and any love interests to look good.

Re: Aloy Trends As Fans Discuss Horizon Forbidden West Hero

Justin113

We’re at this point where if someone gives their opinion - I.e ‘I liked the attractive character models and I don’t see why you purposely downgrade them and make them all butch’ it’s just labelled as sexism or whatever, seems to be the industry and twitters defense to everything - you’re an ism or a phobe.

Which isn’t the case of 90 percent of the criticism. If anyone has a hang up on race and gender it’s seemingly the left wing devs. They aren’t doing this to male characters in nearly the same extent. And they haven’t explained their reasons for this. Do they think the 40 percent or so of ps gamers that are female want to play some fat girl with rosacea? Because most the girls I know that play games would want ‘their girl’ to look good.

Sadly the answer is just not to buy it if you don’t like this direction. They’ll soon change it back if they started to lose money. While people bought millions of copies of TLOU2, whatever they thought of it, it was validation for that horrendous dev guy who’s name I have happily forgotten.
