Live service games are either crack it in the first few weeks or die at this point. Between industry and fan expectations if you don't hit both within a short time of release it's a hard road downwards. Nature of the market I guess.
@PuppetMaster Yeah it's been a while. Definitely think KH4 will be last. I guess there has been so much done with new Disney characters last few years probably still a bit they can do with one more but I agree hopefully Nomura can pull it off one last time.
It's a market condition. They'll have to react in the same way Nintendo will and mostly likely MS will (maybe to a lesser extent as they have shares in OpenAI I believe) that will inevitably mean price increases. It's going to be a pig but imo for once isn't based on greed. Just Capitalism biting us all in the backside as usual 😂
I'm not going to speculate one way or the other on the case itself here. Unions are 50/50 sometimes act with best intentions sometimes unreasonable. Don't know which way it falls here.
What I would say is I expect this to drag out for a good few months and more stories to come out. So I do speculate the recent release delay has less to do with quality and more waiting for this to die down.
I'm a few hours in and I've not noticed any bugs or glitches. Some recycled controls for collecting items and opening doors but other than that it's been flawless.
Maybe it is just a case of console review code not being ready
I don't like the volume of live service Sony have been trying to throw out the door to get a hit but ultimately with live service in general there can be so many failures but that one that is a hit can rake in the cash so you can see why they wanted to take a stab at it.
Helldivers 2 was one example of a hit the problem is the failures like Concord have been substantial in terms of budget invested.
They will follow what Xbox is doing but at their own pace essentially. That's how I see it.
MS have the money advantage they buy what or who they need to. Sony's advantage is their exclusives still sell well whether they are on a subscription service or not. So they can afford to go at the change in their own time.
Kojimas games (these days anyway) are an acquired taste. His games are so out there with so much pezazz even if you don't like them it's hard not to admire it.
@Ravix Given the last two games you played I'd guess an RPG fan? If you haven't already I think Clair Obscur Expedition 33 might give you the fix if you are cool with turn based. Its also on Game Pass.
I can see at least one surprise first party title being announced and dropping within the year as Astro Bot did last year. As for from which dev I am not sure.
It's not surprising tbh not the first GTA to get a delay but at least it comes with a specific release date I think perhaps one they had planned for a while.
Rebellion are on to a winner I reckon. Sniper Elite games have always been great but nice to see them gambling on doing something a bit different and it paying off.
@CWill97 stinger to go through that mate wishing you a speedy recovery.
At the same time enjoy the game. I have it installed but not started yet (finishing off Silent Hill 2 remake first) but it's up next after and Yakuza games are a fun kind of bonkers so should be a laugh.
@Rich33 you summed it up perfectly. PSSR is in it's infancy it's going to have teething issues. As a third party dev unless it's going to drive up sales don't rush that shizz out - wait.
It'll be refined smooth out next year in time for the big hitters (GTA etc) which was probably the end goal anyway. Rockstar will have a whole year+ with it.
@Major_Player have you got a source saying it's definitely the issue
Pop us a link over if you do I am curious.
I think it could be partially to do with it but also the hardware being rushed to market so Devs maybe haven't had as much time to work with it as they would like
There are cases where it has worked and worked well (FFVII Rebirth is one example) and some of Sony's own titles.
I don't think PSSR is solely the issue as much as it is the short amount of time Devs have had to make it work. That's the problem imo. It was rushed out to sell to people in time for the holidays.
@Markatron84 Given the sheer amount of comments here and a whole article being dedicated to it. As much as it pains me to say it unfortunately it appears a lot do take notice of metacritic user review scores.
My view they are about as useful as Rotten Tomato ratings are to Movies and TV shows.
@themightyant It's not even just politically charged bs anymore. It's influencers and celebrities creating division too.
I don't know if you are from the UK so may need to Google the example names here, but people should have freedoms to do and pick what they want. Trouble is you have for example Katie Hopkins at one end and Sam Smith at the other who go to such extremes and have such massive followings the division is almost created on social media alone outside of politics.
Now said division has come into the gaming space and it's sad really. People should just be able to enjoy a game. If you don't like it simply don't buy it. Review bombing it does nothing but cause harm to the morale of the developers, QA testers, support staff etc that work so hard to create it in the first place.
Can only imagine the chaos if GTA VI goes in a similar direction.
I think the fact it was announced at short notice in the first place told me not to expect megaton after megaton.
So with that going into it I was quite pleased. And albeit just a trailer great to see initial glimpse at a first party game for next year. I am sure there will be a few more to follow over the coming months.
Can't help but think the timing is not a coincidence. Close to getting a PS5 release. A console that is decidedly more popular in Nintys back yard than Xbox where it's been out ages and they pick now to kick off?
@Neither_scene AAA (I hate the term personally) imo shouldn't be defined by budget should be by quality. Call me old school but a good game is a good game budget irrelevant to me.
If we go by quality from what I've seen so far at least definitely Triple A and we need more like it.
Voted the free time option. Back in the day I didn't care but as responsibilities have increased I tend to shy away from games where I can't tone the difficulty down. Similarly get selective about what open world games I'll take on too.
@Medic_alert I have beaten FFVII Rebirth twice and even with chapter select and stats carrying over on the second play through I was still randomly selecting upgrades.
Games beatable only using a few abilities rest are literally pointless.
@Medic_alert Yep the one game I nearly canned off for that and I'm glad I didn't was Red Dead Redemption 2. I would have missed out on an epic but the prologue and tutorial I was so close to giving up.
@NEStalgia @Medic_alert Oh I agree with this so much and it really hit home quite recently. Got a new game had worked a 60 hour week so far thought I'll get some downtime before the next day and try this out. Got maybe 75% through a tutorial section and it was time to hit the sack ready to do it all again tomorrow.
It's sticking to a basic overused formula and relying on the brand to sell it.
I think Eurogamer are being slightly harsh singling this out for it as I am sure we could name countless other games that do that.
I think it's simply going to be one of those games that if you love Star Wars you will have a blast and if you don't you might not find much to enjoy about it.
Sony have shied away recently from showing any games that are a while out from release as they did in previous years. Astro Bot has only been recently revealed and it's out in a few months.
I think it's the right move but it's backfiring on them because of lack of communication in general. Xbox in contrast are being very vocal right now.
They are lacking a mouthpiece is the problem. Shu is in a different role now and they never really outright replaced Shawn Layden or Adam Boyes.
They need someone in place who can be out there being vocal with fans.
@BlaizeV Because as sad as it is to say it. None of them would probably sell enough numbers to the mainstream to warrant it. Which seems to be what they all aim for these days, outside of Nintendo at least.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem 'Head and Shoulders' Ahead of All Consoles on PS5 Pro
Looking at the PlayStation blog post that's just hit Facebook would appear this is the first game using the new PSSR upscaler. So this is a good sign.

Re: PS5's Retro God of War Game Gets the Worst Reviews in the Series
I think a lot of the hate may be people feeling it's a tacked on release due to other projects being way off rather than the style it went with.
Re: Despite Big Multiformat Push, Square Enix's Acclaimed New Visual Novel Will Skip PS5
@PuppetMaster I second you on the interest in Square albeit I would say still interested in KH4 this end as well.

@Zuljaras I literally look at this thread on a weekend to see what you are playing next 😂 good to see wide taste is still a thing.

@Jrs1 Second this. It's played with your feet I tend to refer to American Football as Handegg as a result 😂
Re: Sony Cancels Bluepoint, Bend Studio PS5 Games, One Being a Live-Service God of War Title
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare I'll counter that. Phil Spencer is the head of Xbox but seems to be Nadella running that show.
May be head of the studios but Hulst was more or less a figurehead back then. Jim Ryan was the one pulling the strings.
Re: Sony Cancels Bluepoint, Bend Studio PS5 Games, One Being a Live-Service God of War Title
Seems to be a lot blaming Hermen Hulst in here.
He will no doubt have had some involvement but can't help but think he's mainly clearing up Jim Ryan's mess here.
Re: Do You Put Your PS5 in Rest Mode or Shut It Down?
I leave in rest mode if there are few updates to download otherwise usually shut down.
Re: Rumour: PlayStation Is Working on Reviving Some of Its 'Deep Cut' Franchises
They need to look at outsourcing IPs between their studios. Id love to see Team Asobi take a shot at Jak and Daxter for example.
Re: Gamers Are Reportedly More Interested in Watching Games Than Actually Playing Them
@DanteDevilHunter Depends. I've been known to watch game vids or walkthroughs if it's something on a console I don't own that I am curious about.
The data isn't isolated to games someone may have already purchased so could be 101 reasons for the viewing.
For me it's the above plus the odd puzzle hint and review. I wouldn't say I watch them more than I play them though.

Re: PS5's Lack of Tentpole Exclusives Isn't Hurting Engagement, Says Sony
They were upfront about a lack of first party this year though not necessarily about the reasons why. Bound to be budget and other factors.
All of the main first party devs have all but confirmed they are well underway on new stuff so hopefully we see and hear more about that next year.
Re: UK Video Game Retailer GAME Will Reportedly Stop Stocking Video Games

@Sakai He is invested in keeping the UK high street going ill give him that even if he is a money grabbing goat.
Re: UK Video Game Retailer GAME Will Reportedly Stop Stocking Video Games
There will come a point where the only place to get physical copies of games will be supermarkets or selected online retailers and that will be sad.

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Reveal Has Utterly Torn Fan Opinion as Trailer Gets Slaughtered
I think the fact no gameplay has been shown and it's out this year does not bode well at all.
Even if EA planned to show it themselves at their own thing this teaser doesn't create a very great first impression.
