Dragon Age: The Veilguard game director Corinne Busche is leaving BioWare after an 18-year career at EA, with two of them in the position on the RPG project, Eurogamer reports. It is understood the developer hasn't been affected by any layoffs elsewhere; this is simply Busche moving on in the coming weeks.
During her lengthy tenure at EA, Busche worked on the Tiger Woods PGA Tour franchise during the PS2 days and then made the switch to The Sims franchise from 2013 onwards. She was brought in as game director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard in 2022 to help finish off the project alongside creative director John Epler, as the team reworked the project back into a single player RPG rather than a live-service effort.
With no DLC planned, BioWare has now turned most of its attention to creating the next Mass Effect game. The game is said to have sold "decently", according to Eurogamer, and sales weren't a direct factor in Busche leaving.
In our Dragon Age: The Veilguard PS5 review, we awarded the RPG an 8/10 and shared praise for its great cast of characters, impactful story, and satisfying combat. "Dragon Age: The Veilguard isn't quite BioWare back to its absolute best, but it is the most cohesive and emotionally engaging RPG that the studio has delivered since Mass Effect 3," we concluded. "Its shift to crunchy action combat is an improvement over Inquisition's middle-of-the-road approach, and although the game feels a little light on meaningful player choice, the storytelling pulls no punches when it actually matters."
