Upcoming PS5 RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is looking very promising indeed, and we're not the only ones who think so. The game has garnered enough fans that it's already run out of its collector's edition.
In a statement on social media, the game's official account has outlined the situation:
"Never could we have imagined that we'd have sold out of our collectors editions so early, nor did we know the demand for our physical editions would be so high," it reads.
Basically, the game is already so popular that fans can no longer purchase the collector's edition, and it looks like restocking isn't a guarantee.
"Truthfully, getting these made was a monumental feat for us. We are so grateful to see that the demand was there, and that it exceeded our expectations," the statement says. "Though we will try our best to explore the options of restocking, we cannot promise it yet and we hope you understand the limitations with this."
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a fantasy RPG inspired by Final Fantasy and Persona, featuring deep, stylish, turn-based combat. It was last shown off during Xbox's recent Developer Direct, where it was revealed the game will launch on PS5 this April.

Well an RPG with classic turn based combat, nice graphics and interesting looking chars, understandable that the demand is high (these days classic turn based combat is mostly a rarity would say). I am also looking very forward for this release.
Good for them! The game is looking really good from all that has been shown. Great to see turn-based RPGs getting more and more popular again.
Never liked western takes on JRPGs, but very hopeful this will be the first.
I basically never buy Western games on release anymore, but if this reviews well and doesn't have any glaring tech issues, I'll be there day one on PC. It really, really stands out compared to its peers.
It's rare where my hype level is between ridiculously hyped but somewhat cautious cause everything I've seen makes this game seem too good to be true.
This is a great problem to have! I'm really hoping this game is as good as it looks.
I just watched a clip on YT and I have to say that this looks really good, it's gave me lost Odyssey vibes and I love that. Looking forward to this for sure.
This genuinely looked fantastic in the developer direct. I'll definitely be playing it on Game Pass and if I enjoy it I'll buy.
Preordered the base version. I don’t really have any games that I like coming out besides Yakuza & maybe first Berzerker. So a no brainer for me. I hope it’s wicked 🔥🔥😎😎🔥🔥
Didn't even know there was a collector's edition, it looks cool. I hope the game is good, it seems really promising.
When I first this at Microsoft Dev Direct last year I was like hmmmm I'm intrigued.... As soon as I saw the turn based combat that was it for me and I've been following it ever since. I don't pre order I haven't since the PS2 years but I will buy this on PC or PS5 I'm hoping for a demo of it soon before releass
Modern turn based photo realistic RPG...
Hardly a surprise being so popular, there is a MASSIVE void left by the likes of Final Fantasy which betrayed the legacy that built it. Of course it's popular!
As soon as I heard turned based that turns me off, it just isn't for me. Equally I won't rubbish the game because of my personal taste and hope everyone who like turn base turn out and get this if it reviews well.
I hope the game meets the hype. It definitely looks promising, but it is the first game from this dev, so it remains to be seen how it all pans out. Pulling for them, though!
I’ve been hurt too many times by poor technical performances or over-hyped games, but when this releases if it gets a 7 or higher I’m there as soon as possible. It looks really special, and they seem a passionate studio, fingers crossed for them!
Well it's not a "western" RPG, it's a French game and they are pretty good at being innovative and outside the standards. Look at Plague Tales or Detroit, quite unique experiences. Definitely rooting for this new game, looks amazing.
I'm a bit skeptical when it comes to western studios making a JRPG style game, especially when they are French. Was looking forward to Edge of Eternity which was also a JRPG style game from a French studio and that didn't turn out well.
So I will wait for the reviews for this and maybe buy it once it's on sale.
I was on board day one. The more I see of it the better it looks, I can’t wait at all for this one. I may even outright buy it even though I have Game Pass just to speak with my wallet.
@Valgore Lost Odyssey is exactly what I thought of.
Yeah, this looks fun and you can pick it up for $45 with a PS Plus discount. I'm in.
Great to see that it seems like it is on track to be a success, as long as the release isn't a disaster and people cancel their orders left and right. Hoping it all works out of course.
Still can’t believe it’s 45 usd with plus. Is it to good to be true?
Never knew this game was being made by such a small team it looks fantastic
@B0udoir france is western
This shows the importance of a good reveal.
Even if the game isn't good, it already convinced people that it is.
But, i personally will wait and see. I think it's too good to be true.
Yeah this game is going to be a instant hit.word up son
Final Fantasy take note! Turn based is cool!!
This game has me very interested. I really hope they pull it off.
@guacguacboo It'll probably be a shorter game for what they're offering.
Makes me wonder what The Order could have become…
@B0udoir Are you saying France isn't a Western country? It's kind of odd to point out something this basic but here we are; Western doesn't specifically refer to America either in general, or in terms of being a WRPG or Western game in general.
Really hope this will be successful and more western studios will put their hart into turn based rpgs ^_^
Even Ubisoft did the charming Child Of Light a few years ago.
Have fun everyone. Just can’t get on board JRPGs styles
@MichaelNau Sorry if it makes you feel old but that was 11 years ago!
So you are saying she is a teenager or a young adult of Light now? Xb
@Nepp67 Based on what the developer said it’s 30ish hours for the main story but there is also side cotent. So probably around the same amount of time as GoW or FFXVI.
@guacguacboo Then I am very impressed, hopefully the story is good because it looks promising
@neillaw "Photo realistic"? What??? Nothing I have seen to date from this game looks photo realistic.
@Almost_Ghostly it's the term used for the graphics style, I.E. not a generic anime / cartoon
@neillaw I know full well what "photo realistic" means. You obviously do not because the games style is not photo realistic whatsoever.
@Almost_Ghostly I think you need to go back to Reddit or whatever argument platform you came from, this is just such a weird point for you to pick up on... Literally everyone knows EXACTLY what I'm talking about including yourself, so dumb
Ignored
@neillaw You're the one taking things WAY too personally and now resorting to personal attacks. P.S. The games visual style is still not photo realistic. It looks like a cartoon-y fantasy world.
