Does it provide a better experience than the official remote play app? I suspect it might as unlike a phone or tablet it isn’t doing lots of other bits and bobs online and is just doing one thing. It would be nice to know for sure though.
Apparently, as well as the older 850, there is now an 850P which is the newer official branded version but its performance is completely identical to the 850x but you pay much more for the 850p because it is PlayStation branded.
@S1ayeR74 I’ve just bought a 2tb WD Black SN850X with heatsink on sale from Amazon and did a little research first and from what I read it is just an update from the SN850 and should work perfectly for PS5. It seems to be a meaningful improvement over the SN850, particularly as it doesn’t sound like it gets as hot. I think it is advisable to get the one with heatsink if you’re getting one for ps5.
As far as speed goes on paper it is a fair bit faster than the SN850 but it’s probably not something you’ll notice in normal usage and would only really pick up on if you timed it side by side.
Basically, all my research showed that there is no reason not to get the 850X as it will fit in the ps5 just as well and is an improvement over the 850 in almost every way. It’s just you probably wouldn’t notice the difference if you swapped from one to the other.
I was initially skeptical, but I fired this up after hearing good things about it and I’m have great fun. Definitely has that, “Well, just one more” quality to it. It might not be a traditional Worms game but for my money it still has the same sense of silly, chaotic fun. There are plenty of the old style games, and more to come I expect, but there’s no reason there shouldn’t be room for something a little different.
What’s not to like? It’s there if you get stuck and want to use it, but don’t want to risk spoilers by looking it up elsewhere. Plus, you can completely ignore it if you don’t need/want it.
I love the fact that the hero is called Clive! Clive Rosfield sounds like someone who works in insurance and drives an MGB to classic car shows at the weekends.
@eltomo Really what I’m hoping is that PS counters by developing it’s own western style RPG, or immersive sim a la Prey/Dishonoured. I suppose this kind of thing could be bubbling away in the background already! The thought of Sony utilising some of the talent at their disposal on these genres is pretty mouthwatering.
Providing exclusive games, and therefore a reason to buy into Xbox, is as it should be. The “exclusives are bad stuff” being spouted was just a load of guff I reckon. I’d personally kind of like it if existing franchises such as Elderscrolls stayed multi platform and then they leveraged the talented devs they’ve acquired to make new exclusive IPs for Xbox. There’s a good deal of wishful thinking I’m doing there though. Really, it doesn’t matter much in the end, it’s a few years before these Xbox exclusive Bethesda games will be coming out, so plenty of time to save for an Xbox/new PC, or see how streaming to phones pans out, before I even have to worry about it.
"if you were looking for a superhero undertaking to really utilise the next-gen system, you'll now have to wait until next year." What did poor Miles Morales do to deserve such a snubbing!
This kind of spoiler avoidance stuff is very welcome for me; It’s happened quite a few times that I’ve been looking for a guide to get past a part I’m stuck on and accidentally had something spoiled.
I’m excited, this is a really good line up in my opinion. I know people have different tastes, but I do feel a bit like people grumbling about the launch line up don’t remember just how thin PS4’s line up was at launch!
I think I'll give it a few months, see how it's doing after 6 months of post-launch updates. If it's been knocked down to £20 or something in that region then I'll probably give it a go just to play through the campaign, which sounds like it's pretty decent.
@NEStalgia From what I've read, it seems the PS5 operates to a set power budget which is tied to the limits of the cooling system (hence the crazy serious cooling solution). So the PS5 should never be able to get to overheat, because it will always operate to the predetermined power budget and therefore within the capability of the cooling system. But I may have misunderstood this, if so maybe someone with a bit more technical knowledge could explain
@SirAngry From what I read about the way PS5 is engineered on digital foundry (and I’ll admit I didn’t get all of it, being a simple fella myself) the cooling system will be crucial to its performance, which explains why they’ve taken it so seriously (beyond eliminating jet engine fan noise!). To quote the article:
‘ PlayStation 5 is given a set power budget tied to the thermal limits of the cooling assembly. "It's a completely different paradigm," says Cerny. "Rather than running at constant frequency and letting the power vary based on the workload, we run at essentially constant power and let the frequency vary based on the workload." ‘
Which I take to mean, as long as it’s kept cool enough it can operate at peak and will need to downclock to keep within power budget very rarely, and in a way that affects the player in a minimal way.
Anyway, it’s a very nifty, well engineered machine by the looks of it!
@Porco Well there's no confirmation that it will be on ps4 either so we'll just have to wait and see. I suspect that if God of War had been in development for PS4 as well it would be further along like Horizon and they'd have shown something of it, so i suspect that will be PS5 exclusive personally, but who knows I could well be wrong.
@TheFrenchiestFry Yeah, it certainly seems like it’s going to be a much more level playing field this coming gen, which is all to the good in my book.
Also, that’s true about Horizon:FW, though I guess the fact remains that it’ll be something you can play on PlayStation but not Xbox, regardless of whether you’re on PS4 or PS5
@TheFrenchiestFry The thing is, even beyond Demon's Souls and Spider-man, for playstation exclusives there's the likes of Ratchet & Clank, Horizon: FW, Returnal, GoW: Ragnarok on the way in 2021 (possibly earlier for R&C). What does Xbox have coming soon? Halo: Infinite?
@TheFrenchiestFry I guess we'll see what happens with ESVI and Starfield in due course! Anyway, there's no reason for me to consider getting an Xbox for a good while yet. Maybe when their exclusives start to trickle out there will be a more compelling reason.
@Jarobusa Only, people can still kind of say that I suppose. I mean, what Xbox exclusives do they have lined up for launch? I know Sony has dropped the ball recently and do deserve some criticism, but it's mad to me that MS haven't actually shown a next gen game running on series X/S.
Glad I bought a Platinum headset in an amazon sale, that should be great. I would love it if they updated Alien: Isolation to take advantage of this 3D audio (and the dualsense controller actually), that would be brilliant.... even if it did mean i had to do a bit more laundry!
@Medic_Alert Obviously mileage will vary from person to person, but it's pretty good for me. I've had a ps4 since launch, and while there are a lot of games there that I have played, there are a few that I haven't tried, (eg. Persona 5 , FFXV, Days Gone) either because they're not the type of game I'm usually into, or because I haven't got to them yet.
I doubt there's too much to worry about here personally. Besides, I guess worst case I'd imagine the games will still work via backwards compatibility, with the inherent benefits of playing on PS5?
Some brilliant deals on some excellent games there; Lost Legacy is a gem. Regarding game prices for the coming gen: You know what Sony, go ahead and charge £70 for a new game, that's certainly the way the wind is blowing. I'll gladly pay it if the game is excellent quality, feature complete, no microtransactions, no season pass. I'm talking the likes of God of War, TLOU2, Horizon and so on. Then, if you're going to sell me an expansion pack after launch, make sure I know what's in it and that it's worth it, a la Left Behind or the Frozen Wilds.
@get2sammyb That sounds about right; Sony seem pretty traditional so they probably have a specific showcase planned and they’re sticking to that. Maybe they think that the best way to counteract the negative press they’ve had is to do a big blowout of cool reveals, rather than a trickle of information?
I think it's pretty cool; I've really liked the look of it since it was revealed. I like the fact is a piece of design, rather than just a functional box. I knew it wouldn't be everyone's cup of sencha, but was quite surprised just how much some people disliked it.

@S1ayeR74 No problem 🙂. Yeah, that exact one

Re: 10 Things to Do First with Your New PS5
@Odium Yeah, very much a case of all dressed up and nowhere to go!
Still, consider myself lucky to have got a preorder at all (here’s hoping it arrives on time!)
Re: 10 Things to Do First with Your New PS5
Well my copies of Miles Morales and Demon's Souls arrived today, so I'll just have to look longingly at them until the 19th!
Of course I did double check to make sure the discs were in tact. Also, turned the Spiderman sleeve around; that's some really nice box art.
