Re: Reaction: Sony's Live Service Push Has Been a Disaster of Utterly Insane Proportions

Barrymore

Excellent article.
I agree with all points. Live service games are dishonest addictive and shallow. Corporate greed is a reason they are appealing, at no benefit to the consumer. Want to feel like you are being scammed? Get yourself investested in crap like fortnite.

Herman Hulst should be sacked. He has no business being at the helm of a games company, particularly one with the history playstation has.

Re: Naughty Dog Turns Off Intergalactic PS5 Trailer's Comments As Discourse Turns Nasty

Barrymore

Character looks fine, story looks interesting. I'm not a fan of anything ND has done since the first Jak and Daxter sadly, not really my style of game and I've been burnt buying their games only to stop playing and not return, so a demo would be nice.

Regarding the politics, I do feel like ND are making a political statement with the character, so you are bound to wind some people up. Pre-emptively turning youtube comments off shows they knew this as well.

Re: Intergalactic PS5 Is Naughty Dog's Wildest, Most Creative Story Yet

Barrymore

I haven't enjoyed anything from ND since Jak and Daxter 1, and I've tried most of their games.

I actually gave it extra effort to trying to enjoy them due to all the glowing reviews, but in the end I gave up. This made me sad to not enjoy sonething almost everyone else appeared to like.

I imagine there are some like me out there who feel the same way. Sadly I won't be spending money on this, however I'd play a demo to see if this game is different from uncharted or tlou. So I'd offer my time to give this a chance but I won't offer money.

And no offence, but I wouldn't trust a review of this game, as I haven't agreed with the previous ones (Jak and Daxter 1 excluded).

TLDR, demo please.

Re: Talking Point: What Was the Best Game Announcement at The Game Awards 2024?

Barrymore

Not really sold on the naughty dog game, though i didn't enjoy much from them since jak and daxter 1. So I am surprised to see it top this poll, though I am aware I'm in the minority for disliking the cinematic experience type games. There wasn't too much to go off in the trailer to tell if it will be a similair experience, but I'd sooner go watch a movie.
Elden ring wins it for me, even if it is a weird spinoff.

Re: Rumour: Concord Cost $400 Million, Sony Believed It Was the 'Future of PlayStation'

Barrymore

I already didn't care about any of these live service games. When I play a game I don't want to feel like I'm some hapless mark bring duped out of their money (like some poor sod putting £40 into a fruit machine on pay day).
I hope Fairgame$ and Marathon get cancelled or scaled back, and I'm glad that the live services as the future is looking bleak.
Considering their rich heritage, I'm surprised to see Sony falling for this.

Re: Concord PS5, PC Sales Estimates Are Somehow Even Worse Than We Thought

Barrymore

Oh and just to go a bit old school, I preferred it when multiplayed modes get tacked on to single played experiences such as Goldeneye and Halo.

Though there are succesful modern examples like CoD or even titanfall (less succesful but presumably better than 25k), so this isn't really an archaic concept either.

Why not use Sonys significant single player experience to entice us in, and then make us stick around for the multiplayer.

Re: Concord PS5, PC Sales Estimates Are Somehow Even Worse Than We Thought

Barrymore

On one hand I am pleased, it gives a message to publishers to what games aren't wanted want loud and clear, bland live service shooters are old hat.

I don't know if the culture war stuff has played into it, but it has also featured on deidetected.com, i imagine this would only put off a tiny proportion of people, but a lot of people do care about that sort of thing.

On the other hand I'm sad, it's well made and I can only imagine the trauma and stress of watching something you put vast amount of time into come to nothing.

Re: Poll: Do You Still Play Diablo 4?

Barrymore

I played the other games multiple times, but this one feels dull to play through again. The account wide progression sounds flashy, but subsequent characters are "buffed" by stat and skill points from your first play through, making them feel boosted and easy.
You are even encouraged to skip the campaign, so you get straight to the dull grindy crap. This shows a lack of understanding in what makes playing a game fun.
Then again the dull grindy seasonal stuff is where they sell the battle passes, so it's obviously their goal.

Re: PS5, PS4 Players Will 'Remain Welcome' As Xbox Closes $69 Billion Activision Blizzard Buyout

Barrymore

Sometimes constructive criticism and nuanced debate is a waste of time. I believe this is one of those times.

F-off microsoft, you are greedy and wholly deserve to own activision blizzard king, three fallen, grubby avaricious companies.

Your slimy tweets are embarassing and clearly try to mask this greed. I won't miss any of the games that will now be skipping ps5 anyway.

Re: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor PS5 Patch Out Now, Promises Improved Performance and Crash Fixes

Barrymore

Patch doesn't do anything. Cutscenese related to the first boss fight still stutter in exactly the same way. Tried on performance and none performance mode. Guess we will need to keep waiting. Got my finger hovering over the return to amazon at this stage...

In other news, I'm getting good at the first boss! But I refuse to play any more of what seems to be an excellent game without this stuttering sorted.

Re: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (PS5) - Fantastic Sequel Is Bigger and Better in Every Way

Barrymore

I keep hearing discourse about the pc version being a mess. The ps5 version is also a mess, same issues and I can confirm this.

No excuse for this, and frankly Push Square, your review made light of the technical issues, and was too generous in it's score. Reviews are there to guard against this, otherwise what's the point.

In my opinion review sites and publishers are at fault here, and they should both look at their processes.

I'm not someone who generally cares but these issues are so bad, I can get behind the review bombing.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor?

Barrymore

First boss down, the gameplay is great perfect difficulty balance and great exploration. However, performance is a big issue, the cutscenes stutter, framerate drops are consistent, even on performance mode.
This does bother me, especially when the cutscenes are otherwise great. Unless you are desperate I'd just wait for a patch.

Re: Soapbox: PSVR2 Already Feels Like It's on Course for Failure

Barrymore

Simply put;

It's overpriced massively. Number one aspect that affects whether or not someone makes a purchase of pretty much anything.

At this price point you don't get anything that is particularly ground breaking anyway, so failure is inevitable.

It hasn't got backwards compatability. Sony are you joking? This is such a major drawback, and limits the already small games library even more.

I do honestly wonder about Sony sometimes.

Re: Microsoft Admits Xbox Game Pass Is Harming Software Sales After All

Barrymore

It was obvious that this would happen. Sony should stick to their current model, and only add older games to the service, ones that had a significant launch sales period. I honestly would have been happier with only retro games on the service in addition to the 2 games a month model, but microsofts aggression forced their hand. These retro or older games aren't always feasible to actually play, you may not have the older console, so this gives the service real value.

It really makes me admire nintendo's subscription model more, but they have the luxury of having an iron grip on most of their retro first party games licenses still.

Ultimately, just buy your games, physical preferably so you actually own it. Call me a dinosaur, i beg you.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium PS5, PS4 Games in October 2022?

Barrymore

I dislike all these subscription services. Paying for multiplayer server access with a random sprinkling of games was fine. Just buy the games you actually want, it will be cheaper in the long run.

Remember, sony and microsoft wouldnt push subscriptions unless they made more money from customers through them.

So go out there, be a dinosaur, buy a physical copy. You will actually own it, and can play it as often as you like. Maybe only buy the few games you actually want. Who knows, the market might not be flooded with thousands of games if that happened.

Re: Poll: Which PS Plus Tier Are You Subscribed To?

Barrymore

Premium, for 7 days then back to essential. No Demons souls ps3 despite being on the EU official site list. Classic list is genuinely poor, where's mgs, ff8, silent hill? where's gitaroo man, rez ps2 version? Where's ff13? Nothing premium about it.

Re: Best PS Plus Games

Barrymore

Did Europe get shafted? Several games missing, ones that are listed on the official page. Demon's Souls ps3 for example.
