@Deoxyr1bose This is exactly what jumped out at me! The hi-def environment makes the pixelated character models look even more blocky, and the fact they’re untouched by any of the fancy lighting gives them the look of stickers in a kids book.
No game fan with even the most rudimentary understanding of the industry would believe leaked footage represented the finished product! With a game this anticipated it’s just conformation that it does exist and will be coming out sometime in the next decade.
@Luigia I’d describe it as Cyberpunk 2077 meets Diablo. Enjoyed it myself. Got local co-op too, something that feels hard to find in these online play days.
@nessisonett Does anyone remember the Bitmap Brothers 16-bit classics ‘Speedball’ (1988) and ‘Speedball 2’ (1990)? Inspired by the original ’Rollerball’ movie from 1975 they were great fun as local vs. sport games, with Speedball 2 increasing single player interest by building up a team with individual players. ‘Speedball 3’ could well succeed today as an ultra-violent future-sport game.
God of War is still free in PS Plus ‘Essentials’! Why are Sony doubling down on it. It is not the big hitting AAA title they seem to think it is for a Plus Monthly release. Everybody who wants it, has it; and a lot of those picked it up for free already. Very poor month. As someone who doesn’t really play online, I’m thinking Plus might be over for me.
So the only PS5 title is a cartoon brawler? Not exactly showcasing the power of the system is it? Nor is it a very balanced offering. Don’t like fighters? Guess you’re out of luck this month!
Guess there’s no way to play the PSP games on the actual PSP if they’ve been “enhanced”. Was hoping for a second lease of life for the old thing. Ah well, still got Chinatown Wars on UMD!
The only one I’ve ever played is Diablo. Would I miss it if the next instalment didn’t come to PlayStation? Yes if it’s still local co-op. But the trend seems to have been towards online cross platform play. It would seem to be a backwards step to go “exclusive” at this stage, especially for games that make so much money post-sale. Why cut off 50% of your income?
@PenguinL This was on my list as one to try. Interesting you found it to be lacking. I was surprised when I looked into it that Rockstar haven’t officially given it the PS5 polish. They really seem to ignore anything that isn’t an online money printing machine these days. It’s a shame. Feels like they’ve lost their way.
I’ve gone back (way back) to a classic; Skyrim, all polished up for PS5. So much new content already. This is one of the few games I can lose hours on without noticing the time pass. “What do you mean it’s 2:30am?!”
So the biggest question I have is, there’s Minecraft porn? Desperate pubescent boys lusting after early Croft with her pyramid boobs was odd enough, but Minecraft? Where everything is cubic. There’s a market for flesh coloured cubes banging together? The internet is a truly strange place.
Great textures, lighting and shadows. Lovely flowing cloak material. Would like to know if traversal is a magical upgrade or ubiquitous ’Boots of Speed’ gear.
Two main concerns are: 1. Chattiness of unseen comrade and main character is distracting. 2. Lack of melee combat. Even close enemies were taken down with a short range spell rather than a physical blow.
Looks like my kind of game overall. Hoping they can polish it up before release. Time will tell…
@Legacy2K You say “completed”. I’m guessing you didn’t max out upgrades, get the best vehicles, finish all story threads, find awesome elite cyber gear and devastating weapons. You just got an ending, right?
Bought on PS4 at launch. Yes it had issues, but nothing game breaking. For me it was no more or less quirky than a new Bethesda game. Still love it and was considering a replay but might wait now and see if we get a free PS5 upgrade.
If I hadn’t played them before, and they’ve had a massive HD/next gen overhaul, the trilogy at full price would be well worth it. Even having played the originals, I’d be tempted the get this in a sale (again, with a graphics and performance overhaul).
Vice City was so nostalgic from the C64 loading screen to the soundtrack to the Miami Vice overtones. Loved it. Then San Andreas, while not being set in a world I know too much about (hip hop, gangs, etc) was such a jump in scale and graphics it was easy to get lost in.
Late in the day but my son has just started this (stuck in lockdown, no college, no new games) and it’s reminded me how much I enjoyed it. This review score is too low in my opinion. It should be a 7 minimum, a score at which I will buy a game if I am interested in the style of gameplay, or the world in which it is set, with the idea that the reviewer may not enjoy those aspects but can still give the gameplay and mechanics a 7. The melee combat is chunky and brutal. The driving is responsive and fun. Add to that crunchy vehicular combat and you’re onto a winner. I accept the criticism that it can be repetitive, BUT, as you improve Max, improve your vehicle and improve the Strongholds, the rewards always feel worth it. I enjoyed the rhythm of the game. It never became a grind. For me it’s an 8 but with a warning! If you are a Platinum hunter (PS4), I have found this unobtainable because of one glitched container. Upsetting to be so close to Platinum only to find it’s locked out, and that at time of release WB didn’t give a f...! No patch was forthcoming and to this day it’s broken. It won’t ruin the story or the fun you have, but you will have to award yourself an unofficial Platinum once you get to that point.
@Robocod As all the other comments are from 2015 I’m guessing yours won’t get much attention. I don’t think the downloads will be too awful. Can you start them and leave it in rest mode overnight? If you like exploring and crafting it’s a great game. Characters are good. Music good. Graphics good. Some horrible beasties and tough morale decisions. Definitely recommend.
My first experience was back on GTAV and it scared the sh*t out of me! I hadn’t realised the DS4 had an inbuilt speaker. The in-game phone rang and it was in my hands and then on answering the voice was right there and I was like “What’s happening?!”. Pretty good use of it in GTA I’d say. Not experienced it much since. You’d think they’d have got it into RDR2 somehow. Maybe gun cocking/reloading or skinning/crafting noises.

@KidBoruto It’s a shame because game-wise I’m definitely interested.
