Wow, I was honestly expecting something completely different. This UI is so outdated and poorly designed, I had to check the source to make sure this video was real. All they've done is copied aspects of the Xbox One UI(from 2-3 updates ago) and put a heavy focus on holding the hands of children/very dumb people for a reason I cannot comprehend. Video games are already too easy these days and they have decided to focus the UI on making them easier? Why? Absolutely out-of-touch. There's nothing new here, nothing revolutionary, nothing innovative, nothing of any interest. I am so disappointed in Sony/Playstation, they should not have put so much emphasis on the UI if this is all it is. There is absolutely no reason we couldn't have seen this back in August.
@tatsumi Right and that is the problem. Sony would just use that data to sell me ads. An individual would use recordings for nefarious purposes. Anyone can record what someone is saying in a party chat(which is illegal without their consent) on their phone, recording device, or audio capturing software, but that person has gone out of their way to do that and Sony is not liable to anything in that scenario. Here they are saying the PS5 has a specific feature that allows you to record party chats. This will lead to users blackmailing each other and a whole mess of other issues that will end up forcing Sony into decades of litigation as they are now liable for any illegal activity or civil suits that are brought on by their users recording others.
Original story: "And anyway, this functionality has been around since the current-gen system launched back in 2013. The Japanese giant has included the point in its software usage terms for seven years — it's not something Sony has suddenly sprung on us earlier today."'
Update: "Voice chat recording for moderation is a feature that will be available on PS5 when it launches, and will enable users to record their voice chats on PS5 and submit them for moderation review. The pop up you’re seeing on PS4 right now is to let you know that when you participate in a chat with a PS5 user (post-launch), they may submit those recordings from their PS5 console to SIE"
@Kopite 🤷♂️ Since Sony's making such a big deal about it I assume it must really be special, if not there would be no point in hiding it for this long.
@Kopite People are curious about the UI because Sony said it would be revolutionary and will be one of the main draws/features of the PS5. Here we are less than a month from launch and they still haven't shown it.
@NeuralDeclan The majority of Xbox games support their version of adaptive triggers(impulse triggers) but a lot of people say they don't realize it's happening(if they took it out I'm sure they'd feel like something is off). I personally notice it in every game that supports it and it is a cool feature depending on the game/what's happening.
This is definitely for winning PS5's: "Guests need to purchase the 2 for $5 deal or a $5 or more purchase via the BK App, bk.com or in-restaurant. “The guest will earn one game token. Guests can then use the game token to play the digital scratch off game in the BK App or BK.com for a chance to win a PS5 console, PlayStation game codes, or BK coupons.” For complete details and rules, check the website."
@nessisonett I have noticed, your response is why I have so little faith in gamers and the gaming industry as whole. Everyone is making crap and everyone happily consumes the crap.
@nessisonett I'm referring to sports games that get a new game every year. If you buy them you are actively contributing to the decline in quality of video games as a whole. A 3-5 year break between titles is ideal although every two years would be fine.
I'm guessing it's a promotional deal for winning PS5's like with the Doritios promotion. Unless Sony goes full on Idiocracy and has ads all over the PS5, I doubt Burger King has anything to do with the UI.
@thedevilsjester I'm not going to go through "50-100" games to check if they required a day one update to play. The last 3 Call of Duties have required it, even though you dismiss those because "Call of Duty is primarily an online title" which, although true, is an embarrassment to what CoD used to be. There are a few recent(2020) titles that require a day one patch to play their campaigns offline: Marvel's Avengers Doom Eternal There are many more as well that I won't be bothered to figure out for you, if you are so interested look into it yourself.
As a note: XB1/PS4 discs only support up to 50gb, if your game is larger than that it is downloading the rest over the internet(and typically when this happens they only put a minimal amount on the disc and require the majority to be downloaded online). This has been very common this generation.
Aside from Rockstar North and Rockstar San Diego, none of their studios even make games anymore. They are all just support studios that do patches and ports.
@TheFrenchiestFry I have over 8000 hours across Bethesda RPG's and still find new stuff every time I play them. I have about 500 hours into the Souls franchise and have done everything there is to offer. Never played Persona.
On a side note, do people really consider DS's to be a jrpg just because it was made by a Japanese team? I've always considered jrpgs to be defined by set characteristics/stereotypes and not actually by nationality.
@Medic_Alert I should have clarified I was referring to Xbox 360 to Xbox One backwards compatibility(which gets very obvious huge boosts in framerate, resolution, draw distance, etc on my One X and several games have 4K assets and lighting changes added). I really have no idea how the XSX will run Xbox One games but I imagine it will be more like how the PS5 is doing it with PS4 games.
Interesting, Sony seems to be using a different system for backwards compatibility than the Xbox. All backwards compatible Xbox titles have improvements for framerate, resolution, etc. Some also got new textures and 4K assets. From what they're saying here it seems like the PS5 will emulate PS4 games more truly to their original state while offering enhancements/boost mode for some titles.
"The first is a data transfer from your PS4 console to your PS5 console via a local WiFi connection"
That's a bizarre way to do it but at least we can.
@MarcG420 You are conflating using Oodle Texture with Kraken(which will be used on games in development between now and 2022 but not on any title released now or in the next year as those only use Kraken) and Oodle Kraken(which will be used after the first few years when Oodle Texture and Kraken fully integrate). Regardless, I'm done with you. I've either been trolled or I'm talking to an idiot, whichever the case this has been a waste of my time.
@MarcG420 We keep going around in circles here. You keep saying you're right and refer to "evidence" that shows you don't know what you're talking about but you keep insisting it validates what you are saying instead of contradicting you like it does. If I had you in a classroom for an hour I could probably explain it to you but you clearly aren't getting it by just showing you the information.
@MarcG420 I am a network engineer and security analyst. I also do data analysis and server networking.
I'm sorry that you've been confused by Mark Cerny, what he said and all the information they've released makes perfect sense to me. I don't know what is getting lost in translation with you.
"This is getting funny honestly." I've been laughing the whole time.
@PupTwilight The XSX has a much slower SSD and overall I/O. It's max speeds are 2.4GB/s uncompressed, 4.8GB/compressed. The drive in this article is 7GB/s, although it won't be as good as the onboard SSD of the PS5 it still is better than the XSX's. Theoretically, with their custom decompression block and their "velocity architecture" they may be able to push that somewhere higher but not any time soon.
@MarcG420 What I said in post #104 still stands.
"I said the speeds could hit up to 22GB/S but the typical speed is 9.0GB/S.
In what way exactly is this wrong?" 🤦♂️ in every way. The typical read speed of the PS5's I/O for a game like Spiderman Miles Morales will be somewhere between 4GB/s-5GB/s uncompressed and between 6GB/s-7GB/s compressed. Something like Astro's Playroom may see the full 5.5GB/s uncompressed(doubtful with OS and other background operations being read) and maybe up to 8GB/s-9GB/s compressed. In the future(3-4 years down the line) like with every generation, compression techniques will allow it to theoretically reach as high as 22GB/s but as was shown in the article I linked 17GB/s seems like the actual limit. None of this will happen for a long time and will be entirely dependent on how well developers use it. For some first party indie titles you may be able to bypass RAM entirely which would be cool. But the more advanced the game the less compression will help. Your 100GB AAA game will not be reading anywhere close to 17GB/s or even likely 9GB/s. And none of this takes into account the PS5 leveraging the SSD for other tasks or degradation which happens very fast with these drives. Your launch PS5 will do 5.5GB/s uncompressed but a year after launch it won't. Several years down the line it will lose upwards of a full GB/s which is why the decompression techniques will be valuable.
@JoshuaTChandler This is correct. You won't see games compressing data higher than 8GB/s-9GB/s for 3-5 years and it will be largely decided on how the developer does things.
@MarcG420 "I’ve literally shown you multiple sources that say exactly what I’ve said."
You are confusing the theoretical speed of maximally compressed data with what the console will actually be able to read/write at because you don't understand what is being said in those articles or in Mark Cerny's presentation. I've made this clear now, as have the articles and presentations, many times and I imagine you will ignore reality again.
@MarcG420 Alright, you seem to be very far in denial. I've shown you multiple times how you are incorrect and you continue to believe the same false information.
"You’re too dense to realize that the article you linked has proven MY point and not yours " That's a yikes from me dog. You don't seem to know thing-one about the subject and are just talking out of your ass.
@JoshuaTChandler Uncompressed is the max speed of the SSD itself while the compressed numbers are factoring in compression techniques like Kraken and Oodle. It'll be up to developers to optimize how they see fit, unfortunately developers these days are notoriously bad at optimizing games.
@MarcG420 Your sources agree with me and what Joshua said only further proliferates that, so I really don't know how to explain it to you any other way.

@MarcG420 Yes we have been through this before, the sources you link to show that you are incorrect but you just ignore that and continue to believe misinformation/half-truths.
"It's not hard to fact check you know" Exactly.
@MarcG420 I am fine with you and any other person who spreads misinformation blocking me. Many people simply cannot handle reality and would rather shut out the truth than face it.

Did they mention in the tear down or anywhere whether an SSD heatsink is required or if it fits in the PS5? The slot looked big enough for one. It'll be an additional cost but would probably be needed to avoid overheating.

@Henlak- "Im just annoyed that they're allowing people to record your party audio now. "
Surely this can't be true? That would violate laws in several states/countries without full authorized consent by all parties.
