Genshin Impact ChinaJoy Protest Breath of the Wild

Oh boy, this is a doozy. For those who aren't aware, one of the many games announced at this year's ChinaJoy event is Genshin Impact, an open world action RPG that might ring a bell. As you can see in the announcement trailer, it bears more than a passing resemblance to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild -- heck, even we've taken to calling it Waifu of the Wild. However, some are taking it a little more seriously than we are.

As reported by Daniel Ahmad on Twitter, one particularly miffed Zelda fan thought the game to be a little too close to Nintendo's acclaimed adventure title. In protest, he destroyed his PlayStation 4 Pro by throwing it to the ground during the Chinese gaming event. We wish we were joking.

What's more, he wasn't alone in his outrage. A mob of people gathered around the Genshin Impact booth, holding their Nintendo Switch consoles, and their middle fingers, aloft.

It's an embarrassing reaction to a game that looks pretty promising, even if it does wear its inspirations on its sleeve. Sharing a similar art style and structure isn't some sort of condemnable offence, but common sense doesn't always come easily -- and it certainly won't fix the poor PS4 Pro that was sadly lost in this bizarre turn of events.

What a world.
