Crimson Desert was not recommended on the PS5 at launch, largely due to its sub-par Performance Mode which launched without any upscaling at all.
But in the game’s latest patch, Pearl Abyss has iterated upon the launch day product, adding in FSR 3 upscaling when the game is running in its 60fps format.
While this is far from a perfect solution – and certainly not up to par with the PS5 Pro’s superior PSSR 2 upscaler – it should help clean up the targeted 1080p resolution to resolve a better overall image.

However, you can disable the upscaling if you don’t like the results.
It’s worth noting the original Balanced and Quality Modes on the base PS5 already benefitted from FSR 3 upscaling, so this brings Performance Mode up to the same standard.
Here’s what the patch notes say:
- Added a “Fixed 4K Output” option to provide a sharper gameplay experience.
- When this option is enabled, the game will output at 4K resolution regardless of whether the display natively supports 4K, allowing for a sharper image.
- On the base PlayStation 5 in Performance Mode, enabling this option will allow you to upscale with FSR.
- This option is enabled by default and can be disabled.
- When disabled, the game will output according to the maximum resolution supported by the monitor.
The latest patch – v1.01.00 – makes countless improvements to the Korean open world, which has received a mixed reception since launch but is improving at a rapid pace.
We noted in our Crimson Desert review that the game is just a little too weird to whole heartedly recommend, but there’s some good stuff in here that sandbox fans will appreciate.
