It's no secret that the PlayStation 4 hasn't had the greatest selection of racing games over the years. Arcade racing games especially have mysteriously disappeared, leaving PS4 owners with little choice when they want to put the pedal to the metal. Having said that, we've still been able to rustle up a list of fast and furious racers that will provide all the speed demon fantasies you could ever want.

12. TrackMania: Turbo

TrackMania: TurboTrackMania: Turbo
Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Nadeo
Release Date: 22nd Mar 2016 (USA) / 25th Mar 2016 (UK/EU)

One of PlayStation 4’s few decent arcade racers, Trackmania Turbo is chock full of twitchy, high speed vehicular action. The short, high flying courses are tight and very addictive to learn as you aim for that elusive perfect run. Multiplayer is even better, with lots of options for competitive or co-operative play, including a full two player campaign. What’s more, there’s PSVR support and a course creator that lets you make your very own vomit-inducing tracks. With its moreish time trials and simple controls, thrill seekers should definitely give this a look.

11. Tiny Trax

Tiny TraxTiny Trax
Publisher: FuturLab / Developer: FuturLab
Release Date: 25th Jul 2017 (USA) / 25th Jul 2017 (UK/EU)

Scalextric in a fantasy setting, Tiny Trax uses PlayStation VR to embed you in the coolest play room ever, making for a comfortable but immersive virtual reality racing experience that sees vehicles duking it out all around you. The gameplay is easy to pick-up but outrageously challenging to master, tasking you with finding the cornering sweet spot in order to maintain maximum acceleration all while replenishing your boost. There’s not much content, but excellent use of virtual reality makes this one of the more novel racing games on PS4.

10. Redout: Lightspeed Edition

Redout: Lightspeed EditionRedout: Lightspeed Edition
Publisher: 505 Games / Developer: 34 Big Things
Release Date: 29th Aug 2017 (USA) / 31st Aug 2017 (UK/EU)

The anti-gravity racing genre went away for a while, but came back with a vengeance over the last couple of years. Redout is one such WipEout wannabe, and it was a pleasant surprise. We were especially taken with its excellent sound design, sense of speed, and the intense Boss Races. While it perhaps doesn’t quite have the finesse in its design that its inspiration is famous for, this is still a fun and frenetic racer that’s well worth a shot.

9. Onrush

OnrushOnrush
Publisher: Codemasters / Developer: Codemasters Evo
Release Date: 5th Jun 2018 (USA) / 5th Jun 2018 (UK/EU)

From the people that brought us MotorStorm and DriveClub, this boisterous, colourful arcade racer ditches finish lines for team-based matches that focus on objectives. Its vehicle classes all boast unique abilities that'll help your team or hinder the opposition, and they all complement each other as you vie for victory in any of the four modes. It's a unique, bold, and action-packed game that's a breath of fresh air on a platform as starved for arcade racers as PS4.
