The PlayStation 4's next big firmware update is in the works, Sony has revealed. The company's currently asking Japanese users to sign up for firmware 5.50 beta testing, meaning that it's only a matter of time before registration opens in North America and Europe, too.

There are no details on what firmware 5.50 will include just yet, but we've no doubt that details will be coming our way soon. Naturally, we'll keep you up to date.

Is there anything in particular that you'd like to see added? Wait patiently in the comments section below.

Update: Sony is now accepting beta registration in North America. You can sign up by clicking through here.

Sony also notes that the beta is due to start in February.

Update #2: And there we go, beta registration is now live in Europe as well. Click through here to sign up.
