Hold onto your hats, folks – it’s the monthly PlayStation Plus update for October. Always a momentous occasion – whether you’re a fan of Sony’s recent giveaways or not – this month is definitely the largest in some time. That’s partly due to the headline addition: DriveClub: PS Plus Edition. While this isn’t the complete game, it features 11 tracks and ten cars, which is enough for you to nab the Platinum Trophy.
Elsewhere on the PlayStation 4, you’ll net Dust: An Elysian Tail, an updated version of the hand-painted adventure originally released for the Xbox 360, as well as Spelunky – which will be fully cross-buy compatible. Meanwhile, on the PlayStation 3, you’ll score oldie but goodie Batman: Arkham Asylum, and old-school brawler Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara. Finally, handheld fans will be able to play zany arcade escapade Pix the Cat and role-playing throwback Rainbow Moon.
Considering that the latter two titles are fully cross-buy compatible as well – with the PS4 and PS3, respectively – you’re getting a serious stack of stuff this month. The big question is: are you satisfied with the offering? Take a look at what’s in store courtesy of the trailers embedded below, and then let us know your thoughts in the comments section. And please remember, whatever your opinion, to be nice.

@Crimson_Ridley It'll be updated in a few minutes. No one will ever know!
Booooo! I was hoping to see flower on there.
Played the classic Spelunky, not my bag.
Nice to see an action RPG on there though, nice change with Dust, played it a bit on the 360 so another pass for me this month.
Heres to hoping for a something lengthy with story soon.
*Awaits you are selfish/self entitled/expect AAA/you hate indies etc, etc.
Much better this month. I already have most of these, but this is a nice improvement.
Holy hell, this might be the best month of plus ever, everyone should seriously play Dust-seriously. Plus Driveclub? Awesome. Rainbow Moon looks fun as hell also, so does Spelunky, and i've always wanted to replay Asylum, but no thanks on the Cat game, idk it might be fun.
@Shellybird27 I couldnt get on with Dust.
Nice looking and smooth though.
Just didnt hit a note with me, not sure why.
I think Pix the Cat genuinely looks awesome. As is often the case with PS Plus, I love it when I know I'm getting a game that I would have bought anyway.
First time in four months I'll be downloading something off of PS+, Rainbow Moon and Dust. The rest? Exceptionally poor. Remember the days when a game like Arkham Asylum (a great game but has been on sale on PSN for under a fiver in every sale the last two years) was the B game? At least after November 30th my PS+ is done.
@rastamadeus Genuine question: what would you like?
Nice update for the PS4
@rastamadeus You know, my old self would have said something, but i'm not even going to bother.
It would be nice to see Pure Pool on there at sone point. Maybe Surgeon Sim too.
@get2sammyb There's nothing wrong per se with the games and, as I've said before, my issues with PS+ aren't the titles but the lies we've been told by Sony that every seems to be happy to overlook. I just think this month it's incredibly cheap, Arkham and Sperlunky have been on sale very cheap over the last year (PS3/Vita for the latter) so to include them just feels like "it'll do." It's also come to that time on PS3/Vita where nine times out of ten I've had the game so it's really not worth it for me, currently, as the PS4 offerings have been woeful (to me). I don't like online multiplayer - prefer to do it with someone here with me - so losing online play wouldn't bother me either. Will see how November's update shapes up before deciding for certain but if it's like this months then I won't miss much myself.
@Shellybird27 Your new self realises people are allowed to have an opinion different to you? Good. Keep it up.
Dust and Rainbow Moon for me. I've been wanting to try both for aaaaaages.
@rastamadeus In my defense, I apologized, because I think you misunderstood my comment, it's cool though.
@rastamadeus No, that's fine. I'm just asking: personally, when this update comes out, what would make you say, "YES! This is awesome!"?
@ShogunRok im surprised you havnt played rainbow moon yet!! Story is alright, everything else is great tho! Real long as well
@Shellybird27 Then we're cool G, we're cool. No idea what that's from but been in my head all day.
@get2sammyb Hmmm... If they included something like Project Diva or Akiba's Trip I'd jump for joy. There's little chance of them ever happening - especially as one isn't out yet, but you get the point. Personally I want to see some genuine variety or not include PS4 altogether, something I feel they shouldn't have done until around now. Problem is on PS3/Vita all the genuinely good stuff has been and gone.
Mad for it, dust and D&D have been wanted by yours truly for quite some time.
@rastamadeus To fully explain my behavior the other day,I was just tired of seeing Indie hate, and I kind of lashed out. I now see how idiotic it was. But, to be honest, If something like Knack, or Transistor were free for Plus(AAA), I would be very much ecstatic.
@Shellybird27 You have Beck as an avatar. I can't stay mad at you. Transistor is incredible. Knack? Go get a Wii and the two Super Mario Galaxy games.
Drive Club great but it's just a demo , but the other two PS4 games total crap! Once again Sony has blessed us with poor games , apart from Outlast . When are we going to get a decent game?
Looks decent, nothing amazing, but a few interesting titles.
@Rapidaz I think a lot of people would challenge you on Spelunky being 'crap'. It's not my cup of tea either, though.
@Rapidaz Dust is an amazing game, and Spelunky is definitely a good game to the right people.
Too bad I own most of these, but I wouldn't mind expanding my roster a wee bit. Drive Club, here I come!
@SuperSilverback Yeah it's one of those games I've always wanted to try but never got round to it, so this is perfect.
@Rapidaz can't really call it a demo if what they are giving you means you can get the platinum trophy.
Rainbow moon is brilliant
@get2sammyb I'm not a Spelunky guy either.
And Dust is lovely looking and runs smooth but it just didn't work for me first time around, I don't know why.
But horses for courses.
Also, did that voodoo guy ever come back?
@Rapidaz "Greatness awaits" to be delayed...
Pretty good month. Not sonys fault but I own a few already. I love spelunky but have it. Isn't Dust that mmo haloish game? Isn't it free to play? In confused. Happy for driveclub. My only real complaint is that I wish the October games would be fall/halloween/horror (you get the idea) themed. Buuuut then I'd slightly complain that I've already got all of them. I'm sure there's some I'm missing though. Like the corpse party games. Can anyone recommend them?
Hmmmm Driveclub demo. Cool. Spelunky, already bought it on Vita and it being crossbuy, well... Dust. Meh. Passed on it on the 360 and PC. Might give it a whirl to check it out.
Rainbow Moon looks fun though.
So an average month for me. But eh I already pay for PS plus to play online so all those games are freebies anyway!
Since getting plus I don't buy Indies anymore and since getting a vita I don't buy ps3 games anymore I rely solely on ps+ so I'm overly impressed! 1 question is rainbow moon turn based?
I'm about 2 hours into Arkham City so maybe I'll play Asylum first now.
Rainbow Moon was great on PS3, can't wait for the sequel Rainbow Skies next year.
I'm still playing Dragon's Crown so don't really need Chronicles of Mysetria, I lack nostalgia glasses.
That video was nice, don't recall ever seeing 1 of those before.
Wait - are the EU and US PS+ updates EXACTLY the same? That's impossible (Vegeta voice).
@rastamadeus ll cool j - ncis los angeles.
Its ok for me, will try all these - vita & ps4, looking forward to drive club.
@Rapidaz: If you have never played Dust I highly recommend it, especially if you like metroidvania type of game.
@Gmork___ Nah, this one is an action RPG, Dust: An Elysian tale, but what you're thinking of is free to play on the PS3.
What a great month I was looking forward to Dust on the PS4 since I can no longer play it on my PC, and the fact that its free is even sweeter. Also cant wait to try out Drive Club.
@Tasuki I'm sure I played it on the Xbox 360 in 2012
Sadly, and I mean this sincerely.... Nothing for me this month. I just don't like Spelunky and Dust looks like Murasama Rebirth, which left me cold. That's definitely not a reflection of the quality, just personal taste.
I don't like D&D and own Arkham Asylum, I'm actually selling my Vita so I'm not interested in the games for it, and Driveclub is.... well it's a driving game.
Just DriveClub for me - it's looking incredible. If I get on with the handling, I'll be upgrading to the full game for sure.
great list but asylum is 5 years old, everyone's played it already o.O
drive club looks good! and for the record, the European trailer was way cooler! minus the non 1080p option.
Dust looks cool too, can't wait to try it out.
The month is great. A fair warning. If you want to lose your sanity go to the PSBlog and read the comments. Some people shouldn't really have Internet privileges.
