The Last of Us Remastered, the next-gen re-release of Naughty Dog’s survival horror opus, is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated adventures currently in production for the PlayStation 4. However, the price point has come underfire from some forum posters. As a port of a year old game, some feel that the software should weigh in at a lower price than $59.99 – while others think that they’re entitled to a discount if they purchased the PlayStation 3 release.
While we don’t necessarily agree with that line of thought, the Californian company has admitted that this is something that it’s currently exploring. “We’re looking into the business model for all of this,” community strategist Eric Monacelli said of any potential savings on the PlayStation Blog. “We will post about this once we have input from all regions.” It’s possible that the platform holder could apply a small discount to the upgrade for those who bought the original digitally, but it will be difficult to expand that to physical copies.
Nevertheless, we appreciate that the award winning studio is at least looking into the possibility, as ports like these rarely come with sweeteners for early adopters. Are you expecting some kind of saving, or are you happy to pay full price for the post-apocalyptic foray again? Put a bullet in our rotten body courtesy of the comments section below.

I'd only 100% wanna buy it again if it's discounted. I went digital too, so please of course offer the same upgrade promo as ps4's launch titles. They could restrict the price reduction to any Season Pass holder to sell passes and also get around the disc owner upgrade problem. I'd love to pay under $40 for Remastered after shelling out $80 already.
It could be like what they did with ACIV and a few other games
You pay 10€+ and to play the game you need the PS3 blu-ray
I would certainly buy The Last of Us for my PS4 if I were given a discount to purchase it for, let's say, around $20. It's like with some of the PS4 launch titles (like Ghosts and ACIV)...I'd be more than willing to pay a relatively small fee even though I already have the PS3 version.
I have TLOU on PS3 with the season pass, and have no problem spending another $60 on it for PS4. It's worth it to me, especially since you are getting all the DLC with it for PS4.
@DrJoeystein
There is absolutely no way they would upgrade for $20. That would be a sweet deal of course. I'm guessing something in the $40 range... comparing it to other re-release ports to PS4.
I bought the digital version for PS3, with regret when a friend wanted to borrow it. I'm going disc for the PS4 release. Hope they figure out a discount for the digital-to-disc scenario.
I just wish I didn't buy left behind when it's included with the ps4 version but hey nobody forced me to buy it lol. I pre ordered the remaster for £35 and I am selling my original copy to a friend for £10 so for £25 I think it's worth the upgrade it's the main game I play online still.
For anybody that's got a ps4 after having xbox and hasn't played it it's well worth the money imo
I would only buy it for ps4 if I got a good discount for having the ps3 version because I would only be getting it for the multiplayer because apart from that I'm done with that game. It was fantastic but I don't know what I would get from playing it again with slightly better graphics
I'll buy it again, no matter what, my favorite game of all time.
It really irks me that developers don't list these games on the PlayStation Store at cost. I mean, they just put the game up on a server - all of it data which can be physically compressed in an infinite number of ways - and they never have to print written material or produce any cases or discs. If anything, I'd pay for a digital copy of a game if it were $15-20 less than retail price.
I never expect savings for ports. If you don't want to pay full price for a game you bought on a separate console, perhaps you should rethink buying games you've already played.
As a GCU member, 20% off takes this game to $47.99, which sounds pretty good to me. And that's assuming Best Buy doesn't offer $10 back in reward certificates, which it very well might, effectively taking the cost down to $37.99, which is the price I paid to pre order Batman Arkham Knight.
I did not pay full price the first time, so no way I am doing it a second time.
It would be odd to give discounts to digital owners only, as that will get an uproar from the physical version adopters, and that includes the people who bought the Survival Edition.
@sinalefa If physical adopters pay more, they'll be compensated accordingly. For instance, those who bought the digital collector's edition of Final Fantasy XIV only have access to the game and digital vanity items. Those who bought the physical copy will get the same, plus artwork, soundtrack AND security token. Was it worth $30 more? You bet your ass it was. I saved what was potentially another $50 easily by having all of that bundled together. Meanwhile, digital adopters only have the game - and that particular purchase may or may not even be transferable to the next generation of consoles. Having a discount for the digital version is only fair. They're already paying full retail price, minus state taxes.
There should be a discount for people that brought on the PS3, when The Last Of Us released on the PS3, thay went straight to work on the PS4 version. People did ask at the time will there be a PS4 version, yet thay didn't say anything knowing full well there was. Instead of saying there will be a PS4 version at some point in the near future, for people that want to wait. It's the same as Diablo3 people knew there was a PS4 version, so some people didn't buy it on the PS3 as thay are waiting for the PS4 version.
