What happens when your game leaks so heavily that you’re forced to announce it early? You may want to ask Naughty Dog about that, as the Californian developer has been busy putting out fires pertaining to its PlayStation 4 port of The Last of Us for a couple of weeks now. This new trailer appears to be a symptom of the earlier-than-expected reveal syndrome, too, as much of it comprises of a black screen with website quotes.
Still, you may not want to watch this all the way to the end anyway, as there’s a pretty big spoiler for those that haven’t played the title before. The sole twelve seconds of actual gameplay footage just so happen to coincide with one of the survival horror’s greatest moments, so we recommend avoiding that play button like the post-apocalyptic plague. For everyone else, how many improvements can you spot? The grass is always greener on the other side.

i hope the clicker noises come out of the DS4 speaker and for all infected when surprised from behind just to scare the sh*t out of us.
@TOMBOY25 Haha, that'd actually be pretty cool.
Agreed. Massive spoiler. It's weird - taken out of context you'd never think it would be. But when you get to that moment in the game... Even if you had any clue that it was coming it would just decimate the impact of the scene.
In all honesty I can't justify double dipping at full price. Even though it's probably my favourite game of all time. I'll give it a few years, I think. It's not going anywhere.
So does a PS4 version increase or decrease the liklihood of a PS3 GH version and/or an inclusion on PS+?
Still havent played it yet. Came close few times but the Redbox in my supermarket never seems to have it stocked when I get the free rental txt.
@rjejr When you say GH PS3 version do you mean a GOTY PS3 version with most (if not all) DLC included etc?
Or literally GH version as in red label and a price drop to $20-$30 eventually?
@rjejr Not sure to be honest. I want to say it makes it less likely, but I imagine something like that is easy to do, so if they think they can sell a few copies, why not? It's not going on Plus anytime soon, though.
Never played this on PS3, looks really impressive count me in.
@TOMBOY25 That would be amazing
My absolute favorite moment in the game. Kind of surprised they would show it in a trailer as it is a really special moment when you finally get there
Short but I think it looks great
@GRIFFEN14 Agreed. It was a special moment, so out of character with the violence in the rest of the game, it really struck you.
I wonder when this will be releasing- summer as in May or as in close to October...
@JaxonH
I would hope June. Otherwise you're looking at August until anything with even a slight chance of being worth a damn comes out and that's just for people who haven't played this. I really see no point in double dipping though. Awesome game, but the upgrade doesn't look that impressive so the dry spell after inFamous continues. At least since I finally got a Wii U, I'll have Mario Kart 8, and hopefully Smash Bros. 3DS is no later than July.
@Gamer83
Multiple consoles really is the way to go. One console just isn't enough anymore, no matter what platform it is. Cause even when games are rolling out, they're not gonna all be ones you're interested in. It takes me 4 consoles and every single new release I'm interested in on all of them to keep me happy as a gamer.
I mean, sure I could make due with only one if I had to, but the less consoles you have the less choice you have, which means you'll still be playing just as many games, just crappier ones. Not only that, but combining Sony and Nintendo really compliments each other as far as genres go. I prefer to pick the creme de le creme of each platform, and combine them for an all-star run of games- nothing less than the best.
@JaxonH @Gamer83 - I think I need to buy a PS4 now so Gamer83 and I can continue to be on opposite ends of the spectrum for our respective game system droughts
Congrats on the Wii U purchase BTW, saw you mention it the other day on NL but I was too busy complaining about Winter 2014 to comment. Despite my constant complaining about Nintendo's handling of it's games distribution its sill a fun little system. Well fun as long as I'm not trying to play DKCTF. Advance Wars has been awesome. Though I suppose that's faint praise as its a 13 year old handheld game, but it holds up surprisingly well. MK8 or bust.
@Toddler_Naruto - Yeah I was thinking GOTY w/ the latest DLC. I mean if you are going to have a series of GOTY releases I would think this would have to get one, no? The red box and price drop can wait.
@rjejr My thoughts exactly...though not the end of the world if I have to buy the DLC separately.
I have plenty of time to worry about that later though, I still need to buy the 34 PS3 games on my wish list that are $25 New or cheaper on Amazon first.
@rjejr
LOL, I noticed your posts over here are much more positive than at NL can't say I totally blame you. It took a really nice deal at Target and Mario Kart being right around the corner for me to finally get a Wii U but I think things will pick up the console soon, software wise anyway. I highly doubt there will be nothing between Mario Kart 8 and Smash. Bayonetta 2 is a no brainer for this year and I'm not ruling out X. I wish the release list was jam packed but I've long since accepted 3DS is the primary Nintendo system, Wii U is a nice complimentary system. I still think in the end the U will have a strong library. It is a nice little system and it does have the current best new gen exclusive by miles in Super Mario 3D World, I love that game and I'm only on World 4.
@JaxonH
Yeah, I can't do the one system thing, too many franchises I like from all 3 of the console makers. I have a preference towards PlayStation, but no way do I want miss the Mario, Zelda and Halo games.
@rjejr
I would say THIS is the GOTY edition. It will appear roughly a year after the original, with all DLC and extra maps included. This one just won't be cheaper, as GOTY editions usually are.
@JaxonH
I feel that people who own a single console are the only ones who really complain from droughts. Last month I was playing my Wii U like crazy (Tropical Freeze), but this month I am with my PS3 most of the time (Bayonetta). So instead of asking Sony for bright, colorful games or asking Nintendo to be the HD triplet, I just have two consoles and play to their respective strengths.
@sinalefa
Haha I like how you phrased that. People do that too, don't they... "Erggg, why doesn't Sony have any games like the Wii U has! Where's all my AAA games Nintendo! Sony needs to create more colorful games! Nintendo needs to make a gritty, realistic shooter!" No, you just need to buy a second console lol...
@sinalefa - "I would say THIS is the GOTY edition."
Well, its the GOT ed. on PS4, which is kind of weird b/c its the first time on the system and is releasing as a GOTY ed. I wonder if they would release the PS3 version as GOTY w/ all the same content but for $50 rather than $60 at the same time? If Sony is still selling PS3 this holiday for $199 there might be some takers on a LoU GOTY.
Oh, and what Jaxon said. But if I did get a PS4 for Christmas (b/c I wanted Drive Club) to go w/ my Wii U birthday present I would be complaining twice as much. Well if that's possible.
@JaxonH - "Nintendo needs to make a gritty, realistic shooter!""
Gritty, realistic and shooter doesn't need to be all one word. Nintendo showed off a very realistic - not gritty and presumably not a shooter - bird in a japanese garden demo to show off the power of the Wii U, but its never made a game that looks like that. MK8 shows that Wii U has the power, and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess shows they can do great open world games (Skyward Sword was a bit compartmentalized for me). I'ld love for them to do a Starfox Adventure sequel w/ Crystal back on Dinosaur Planet w/ that engine. Or an Okami story type game. Saying "they built the hardware, they should use it" isn't the same as wanting blood and guts. I really hope the new Zelda is more realistic and less cell shaded. More like X. But it doesn't need blood.
Sony made Knack. And they have LBP. I think Sony's PS3 has variety covered way more than Nintendo. Though Wii U has Zombie U and Resident Evil and Injustice, so I really don't know what most people are complaining about.
@rjejr
That statement wasn't directed at you. Just a general observation of fans at large. How I see it is, I wouldn't tell Van Gogh how to paint, likewise I don't think I'm in a position to dictate to Nintendo or Sony how to make a game or what kind of game to make. They're the artists, I just let them do their thing and enjoy the final result.
You're right, Sony does have games like Knack. Thing is, they all suck (no offense to Sony, it is what it is). Sony platforms just aren't the console to own for those types of games. It's nothing to be ashamed of- every console has its strengths and weaknesses. Likewise, Nintendo platforms just aren't the console to own for gritty realism. We see a few AAA games ported here and there, and that's cool, but if gritty realism is your thing, there are far better options than Nintendo. It all goes back to what I was saying earlier about Nintendo and Sony complimenting each other in genres.
@rjejr @JaxonH
You just can't forget that garden demo, haha. And Knack IMO works against Sony, not in their favor. Ratchet and Clank would be a much better example
Maybe it is a matter of taste, but I do prefer non realistic looking games as those are usually the most aesthetically different and innovative. Madworld, Muramasa, Epic Yarn and Red Steel 2 come to mind.
We have seen tons of ultrarealistic games for PS360 and I expect to see even more for PSBone, and probably Wii U may get some as the hardware makes it much easier than say, Wii. Bayo 2 and X, and if there is another M(etroid) later down the line could be examples.
@sinalefa
I gotta tell you man... I'm a very satisfied gamer right now. I can't wait to grab an Xbox One and have access to everything the 8th gen will offer. It's the only console I don't own yet- just waiting for that $400 price on a slim model, and HOPEFULLY by then there will be more than Killer Instinct and Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare. Cause Titanfall aint my cup of tea. Maybe Dragon Age Inquisition? Not sure if that's coming to PS4 or not...
@sinalefa - "You just can't forget that garden demo, haha."
As soon as they come out w/ a game that utilizes it I'll let it go It just seems odd that they made something like that if they had no intent to use it. They received so much negativity when Zelda Windwaker was unveiled as cell shaded after that Zelda vs. Ganan Gamecube demo. People probably would have been upset about the cell shading anyway, but that earlier demo really set people up for being upset. I feel like that garden demo is doing the same thing. They also showed a cool looking Zelda demo w/ Link fighting that huge spider and I'm afraid the next Zelda game will be cell shaded like WW HD and people will get upset all over again.
I was surprised to see you mention Madworld. I really enjoyed it, very artistic, but it's about as violent as anyone can make a video game. Well I suppose it was artistic violence, unlike GTA or LoU.
@JaxonH I only mentioned Knack b/c they launched PS4 w/ it, I know what the reviews say, and it probably did do more harm than good. I still have fond memories of Sony platforming though going back to the original Spyro series on PS. And Klonoa. I'm much more a Sony fan than Nintendo but I don't play FPS at all. Or Batman or AC or GTA. All I play are platformers and JRPGS (not even western RPGs like Fable or Elder Scrolls) so it's weird to me that people see Sony fans one way and Nintendo fans another b/c I'm just the opposite. One of the only FPS I like is Elebits, a Wii game. And I bought a Gamecube for Luig's Mansion and Starfox Adventures - both open world games in their own right. The only platformers I've really ever liked on Nintendo consoles are the 2 SMG games. "Nintendo hard" isn't my thing. (Been giving this some thought after DKCTF.)
@rjejr
People got upset that Nintendo did not make the next Zelda realistic, but they got two Zeldas that gen, and one of them was as realistic as that old demo. So if they do the same for Wii U, I wouldn't mind if that means getting two Zeldas again. The spider demo took my breath away when I saw it, though.
Madworld was so over the top violent it was actually dumb and funny, and I think that was their intention. I feel slicing the belly of a Centaur and see its guts coming out in GOW is way more graphically violent than anything in Madworld, as GOW is realistic looking.
