Don’t worry if you haven’t pre-ordered a PlayStation 4 in the UK, as you still stand a chance of securing a system on launch day. Sony has revealed that it will have spare stock available to purchase at its release party in London this week, and if you’re willing to wait out in the freezing British weather throughout Thursday, you may yet score one of the sought after next generation consoles.
According to a press release, the systems will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis, meaning that you’re probably going to have to queue up pretty early. The platform holder will provide food and drink courtesy of Red Bull and Domino’s, while there’ll also be a performance by Tinie Tempah. Think of it as an elaborate obstacle course on the road to PlayStation glory.
"Day one PS4 pre-orders sold out in record time and this could be the last chance for anyone who wants to get their hands on a console before Christmas," beamed PlayStation UK’s gaffer Fergal Gara. “We really wanted to offer some way for people to buy on launch day, and this is a fantastic opportunity for anyone that hasn't already pre-ordered to get their hands on a PS4 on day one.”
The event’s set to take place at 17th Bedford Street, Covent Garden, which is about a five minute walk from Leicester Square station. You’ll probably need a thick coat, some cash, and an optimistic attitude. Oh, and a pair of ear plugs might help you to get through Tinie Tempah’s set. Are you hoping to snag a last-minute machine? Tinie Tempah only has one good song and it's only good during the hook. Sony could have gotten someone better, but I guess they decided to throw him a bone.
@BornOfEvil Are we talking Written in the Stars? 'Cos that is a good song in my opinion...
@get2sammyb Yeah, that's the one. Not that I think about it, the whole thing is pretty good.
Y'all are lucky. People here in the US are trying to sell their PS4's for crazy money because there weren't any at launch. I've seen them as high as 1200 on Craigslist. Dude's not gonna get it
Speaking from experience, you'll want to be picking up a PS4
In Aus everywhere appears to be out of stock until "early" 2014. Launching on Fri with the UK. I know from discussions with stores that there have been at last 2 additional stock allocations since the original pre-order quota, but they have all pre-sold as well. I was part of the second pre-order list and have been confirmed a launch PS4. The third allocation which is also pre-sold is not for launch, but aiming for "before Christmas".
Not sure if they will have any stock (up their sleeve) for launch day, like in the UK. It would make sense, but have not heard anything.
Don't know exactly how the X-Box is going (launched last week, but no one ever releases Australian #s), but shops/websites are saying they have them in-stock. Doesn't mean they didn't sell well, the 360 was very popular in Aus.
At this point, would have to assume that the PS4 launch will go off as planed with people picking up their pre-orders (like the US). Any extra consoles will disappear very quickly. Demand appears high.
@Cowboysfan-22 I hate people that do that, they ruin it for those that really want them. Over here in the U.K Monty Python had a set tour the tickets sold out in 45 seconds and people were selling them on eBay for £3,000.
luckly i have one pre ordered but a least people who haven't pre ordered stand a chance of getting one.
tinie tempah says nothing to me about my life
@BornOfEvil We all know that the hook MAKES that song.
...so glad I preordered my PS4 back in February!
Tinie who. Horrific. I ordered mine in October and should get one before Christmas but I'm turning up launch night anyway in case they do have off the shelf stock/cancellations.
@get2sammyb This is exactly what happened in the U.S. I had read there were going to be extras, so I told a few of my friends who hadn't been able to pre-order. They went to gamestop around 5:30 pm the day before launch and were able to get two ps4's to pickup at midnight. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants one in the next few weeks, because we haven't seen any more in stock anywhere since. I am hoping more will ship after the global launch because I know a bunch of people trying to get one. I need to fill up my battlefield team!!!!
The PS4 won't even be out on the launch day in the island I live
I wanted to get it as soon as possible but the stores I called all said they don't even know when they'll get the console LOL
I got so pissed >_<
EDIT: I didn't pre-order because I didn't know if I would have the money when it releases nor did I want to be buying any kind of converter because the electricity things in portugal are different from other places is europe LOL
