The impressive PlayStation Vita port of Phantasy Star Online 2 has already proved a massive hit in Japan, having been purchased or downloaded over 350,000 times in the region since its release at the end of last month. While a retail version of the MMO did hit store shelves on 28th February, it’s the free download from the PlayStation Network that appears to have proved most popular.
According to the latest Media Create report, the physical edition of the freemium sequel has sold 72,383 units at retail to date. That means that the game’s been downloaded approximately 278,000 times, which is a pretty impressive sum. Furthermore, as of 10th March, more than 2.5 million players had signed up for accounts in the title across PC and Vita.
There’s still no word on a Western release for the handheld version of the adventure, but the PC edition is set to be deployed in Europe and North America later this year. Considering these impressive numbers, we're hoping that there’s a chance of the Vita version making its way overseas. Fingers crossed, huh?

Really hope this comes over to the EU. Add in Soul Sacrifice and Killzone (not for me but people do like shooters over here) and Vita could have a fair crack at wrestling 3DS dominance. Needs to do as much as it can before the new Pokémon's are out - I hope Sony realise that.
I don't know anything about this game; so it's a freemium title and to play it you need to subscribe? Or is it stuff like weapons/skills and in-game currency you buy? I'm so confused.
i need this in english...i have play both phantasy star portable 1 and 2 on the psp and i do not want to miss this...
@neumaus It's a free download. You can buy pretty much anything in the game for real money. So, items, weapons, boosters, that kind of stuff.
This game might be the only reason i might get a vita.
After beating the 1st one 3 times with my friends on gamecube (4 player splitscreen) both episodes a remake or sequel for the game has been all I have been waiting but I think it still wont be the same without my friendsT_T
PSO 2 on Vita isn't so good.Very cheap and bold port from PC. It is still playable, though. And run very smoth, looks like 60 FPS, has really good network code. But nobody thought about redisigning interface or making type bigger. It is really annoying when interface, icons and type are so small...Looks like they were made not for humans, but for ants =)))
Gameplay by itself is fun and addictive, though
@get2sammyb Wow, that sounds horrible. So it basically boils down to: the more you pay, the better you are.
I want to try this on my Vita, but I've always been much more comfortable with a subscription model. Everyone is on the same playing field, you have access to everything if you work hard enough, and it gives the game a little more meaning somehow.

I don't have a problem with these type of free to play models in games like this. Since it's not a PVP game, it doesn't much matter if someone cash shops their way to ultimate difficulty. USUALLY, the cash shop gear is still worse than obtainable gear in game anyways.
I'd probably pay a bit for a cool designed MAG or some retro PSO themed skins
