Topic: Anti-intellectualism on gaming websites?

When somebody has a disagreement over the person that they like no matter what genre it is for video games and it can apply to other courses of heated debates, do you think this is all too common to dislike intellectuals?

I don't think intellectuals are disliked on gaming websites since the kind of gamers that frequent gaming forums tend to be intellectual themselves

Many 'intellectuals' are pig headed and lack true enlightenment. The classic case is when a so called intellectual disputes logic by spouting a theory that can't ever be proved or hasn't yet been disproved; they then take this vacuous 'fact' and proceed blindly.

Personally I think that as with any society or group - especially one that is as diverse as gamers, you will have those that are 'intellectuals' as well as those who are more intellectually 'challenged'. This is evident in many discussions where discussions can degenerate into petty name calling and of course the number of trolls too.
Obviously in tech based culture, you are likely to have a higher percentage of 'nerds' as well as those that are passionate about their 'hobby' and some with very strong opinions too but as with all communities you have a range of people within.

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

What? No seriously, this is a garbled mess of a sentence, I can't even begin to understand what you're trying to ask.

If it's a disagreement over the person that they like, I don't think a person can be a genre. Assuming there's a typo here, you meant to say a disagreement over "what" they like. I can understand that bit. What I don't understand is how any of that has to do with intellectuals. This is Anti-Intellectualism. It's a much bigger thing than just a disagreement over the games people like.

People pretending to be stupid online seems to be the new way to troll. Don't let it bother you. My advice would be to ignore posts that present subjective opinions as facts.

No really, am I missing something here? Everybody seems to talk like they know what they're talking about, yet everyone seems to be talking about different things...

I'm as confused about what's going on here as you are.

The initial sentence made no sense. But I don't think Inahimes first language is English. That said since Inahimes been posting the threads started have always drawn people towards posting which is good.

Don't let context and cohesive sentences get in the way of a good chit chat.

As a self-proclaimed intellectual, I'm highly offended by this thread.

I made the experience that people with higher intellect don't get so easily upset about something. So considering how things work out in a typical online community, the ones touting about their opinion the strongest and loudest might not be the brightest. This would be in line with my gut-feeling about how things are. Just a theory though.

No, I don't think so. He/she has taken issue with something I said, finding it insulting when there was genuinely no malice meant. Which is odd for me.

I hope you saying i no bright? In my experience it's the 'brightest' that are the problem, especially in the real world and not online. People who think they know it all really don't like being proved wrong.

I wasn't thinking about you. There's a line between discussing something in a heated fashion bringing up valid arguments or being a crybaby about something, trying to valid your opinion further just by crying louder!
And the people you refer to, those that - like you put it - THINK they know it all. Exactly my point. They think they do. That doesn't make them intellectual.

Back to you then, while I often disagree with your opinion, I can accept them if provided with backup-arguments and presented in a respectful manner which, regardless of what the "public impression" of you might be, most of the time, they are. Of course it is easy for everyone involved to get carried away about a subject that's meaningful to us, but there - for me - is a line I try to not overstep, that line separating my opinion regardless how much value it might have and the dignity of another person. I am myself guilty of speaking my opinion often and loud but mostly try to give it good arguments to back it up (and the order IS a good game btw...). I think that is all there is to say. It's like in kindergarden, the more mature kids would just avoid a difficult situation or ask the caretaker's or kindergarden-aunts (how we call them here) for advice or assistance. The not so mature or bright kids would just punch someone or scream and leave it to everyone else to guess whats going on. There really are similarities, don't you think?

I know you weren't Scollurio, don't worry. Despite your liking of a meh game (I jest) you speak a lot of sense. I liked debating The Order with you as you knew I wasn't just saying "this is bad, end of" and you weren't just saying "it's good, end of." We discussed what you liked, what I didn't, agreed a sequel could fix a lot of things (still think Ready At Dawn shouldn't have it though) then bonded over a french girls bottom.

If I don't like something I always try to say why - probably why a lot of my posts are so long - as I'm not the sort to come into, say, a Last Of Us 2 thread and say "you're all [insert swear word] for liking a [insert another] game and that's a fact." I'll say why I think it's awful. Too many people see a tiny line in a persons comment online and then ignore the rest. They see me say TLOU is awful, get their rage on and kick off. Ignoring why I think it's awful. Same with these 'anti-intellectuals' (smoothly back on topic), they see what they want and go off on one.

Well I am not from the U.S. I was in the Philippines.

I'm sorry I worded that wrong. At the time I was sleep deprived because of work and all. I made this topic to get your views on debacles not only in gaming but everywhere else... I am a lady btw.
