Re: Mafia: The Old Country (PS5) - Historical Crime Story Runs Out of Ammo

Graphically, it's one of the better games out there. A small trick for modern TVs there...eventhough you select the Quality mode (4k30fps), you can trick your eyes to 4k30+ when you switch from Game settings to "User" settings on your TVs Image settings page...hopefully it's a widely applicable workaround, not just a feature of my 50" SHARP qled

Gameplay-wise...well...that linearity really pulls the potential of the game downwards...you hardly even get a chance to spend those in-game coins for all those perks/weapons/skins in the Shop. Looking for those "secret" collectibles gets just so frustrating when your exploration is awarded with the annoying "Get back to the mission area in 14..13..12.." message. Don't know if it's just me, but I think the missions in Mafia 1 & 2 were far more mafia-like...here, it's just the same pattern of a scene where you hide behind obstacles and wait for the auto-aim to kick in.

Story-wise...well, SPOILER ALERT, but come on...what was the point of building up that romantic relationship idea when the ending turned out to be like it did? I mean, finishing a game should give you some sort of accomplishment feels, right? The script could at least produce a tie-in with the Mafia 1 story where for ex. Isabella's son would grow up to become Tommy Angelo or something in that sort. In this way, this sad drama simply failed to deliver ... like at all.

This game better get a hefty DLC in due time, otherwise it's hardly recommendable to anyone...even to Mafia fanboys.

Re: PS4 Firmware Update 12.52 Out Now, Features 'Security Fixes'

It’s kinda funny to observe how Sony pretends it cares by releasing these silly updates, yet they have been gradually stripping functionalities from their consoles over time…Ps1 lost the AV cinch, PS2 lost firewire, Ps3 lost the dual boot, ps2 back compatibility & card slots, Ps4 lost rear side USBs, Ps5 lost the optical drive…HOWEVER, many other past gen features are still valid today (PsOne LCD addon, PS2 game streaming over SMB, Ps3 video DVD upscaler, Ps4 - PsVita/PsTV remote play). Some shine more on modded systems, others get rediscovered either by accident or during nostalgia rush on a rainy evening.

Re: Reaction: Game Key PS5 Discs Are a Disgrace, and Sony Should Put a Stop to Them

tofuman86

Impulsively viewed, this is undoubtedly weird, yet if we look back on the PS2-ish era, what do we do with modded consoles and "legaly" owned games? ... Exactly, they get dumped & installed on some sort of storage (internal/external) and played that way...yet for current gen games, people brag about the inevitability of all-digital future? Some highly educated comments are expected, however, to my primitive neural system, this trend is "somewhat" contradictory...

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Says Sony 'Can't Get Away' with a PS6 That Has No Disc Drive

tofuman86

Hmm if you just think of it...with ps1, they put a music CD player in every kids room...PS2 brought movie DVD playback, PS3-PS4 bluray movies playback, PS5 came with a 4k BD drive (no DolbyVision but whatever, right?). As much as I'd love to see any type of physical media outlive me in my humbleness, there doesn't seem to be any next step in this multimedia legacy for SONY...eventhough they themselves started with such approach. We can only wait and see...

Re: The State of the UK's Physical Games Market Might Explain PS5 Pro's Lack of Disc Drive

tofuman86

To put it short:

  • digital games relevance ?
YES: families with kids / 24-7 gaming addicts / day-one
    Twitchers / indie dev supporters
NO: collectors & die hard fans / B-day or Xmas gifts

Technically, gamers brought this upon themselves...remember those modded fat PS2s with HDDs full of games? Why loading a game off an optical disc, when consumers still want it "installed" internally? ... if that's not karma by SONY...

Re: Happy 30th Birthday to PlayStation

tofuman86

I remember some homebrew games from PS Magazines made on the Yarooze console allowed for AudioCD swap to have your own music playing in the background...then the PS2 came with DVD movie playback later to be superseeded by PS3's BD playback which got butchered two gens later by a 4K drive tied to online activation not even supporting DolbyVision. Home entertainment legacy killed just like that Who knew?

Re: PlayStation Thanks the Fans with Emotional 30th Anniversary Montage

tofuman86

"dear users...thank you for your loyalty despite..." PSN outages, personal data leaks, crappy PS+ games line up, subscription price increases, consoles overheating due to faulty design, internal studio closures, digital games delistings, hardly-any-launch-titles-for-PS5,...the list goes on But yeah, still much better than the M$ offer...

Re: Out Today: PS5 Pro, the Most Powerful Console Ever

tofuman86

So the OG PS5 box had "8K" written on the side...the PS5 Slim box had "4K120" written on the side...yet we had to wait for a "PRO" revision to have a "new era of gaming" announced and to be actually "playing with power"? SONY now actually charges double for what they were supposed to deliver with the OG PS5? ... How come anyone still supports this business?

Re: Like It or Not, This Is Why PS5 Pro Doesn't Have a Disc Drive

tofuman86

I bought the og-ps5 with the disc drive on release for two reasons...to play enhanced PS4 disc games I already owned and to watch 4k blurays. To my disappointment, I've later learned that the 4k Blurays can be viewed in "Dolby Vision" which Google told me, was superior to HDR, and it also told me, the PS5 did NOT support Dolby vision, which was very likely not to change in the future. As the purpose of physical media began to fade out during the PS3 era where many games would prompt you to install game data to HDD, what purpose is there for the industry to maintain physical media? What would be the target consumer group? Appart from the so-called collectors, whose houses and garages are big enough to store massive Ikea shelvings full of nostalgia, I don't really see any future for this. Is a digital store game likely to get delisted over time? Yes, sure, yet on the other hand, physical games without dev support and/or servers support / god-forbid left in an unpatched state, are not that different when it comes to ruining user experience, right? No possibility to re-sell physical games ? How is it better to buy a 49e game and sell it for 19e after 5 years compared to buying a digital version during a store sale for 19e even if it gets delisted in 10years and cannot be re-downloaded? Exactly. Not hating anything, I myself have a fair collection, just trying to get a realistic picture here...
