Re: Disappointment as PS2 All-Timer SoulCalibur 3 Launches on PS5, PS4 without Trophies

elvisfan1

I'm gonna come in with a different point of view as everyone so far seems to "not care about trophies". I can tell you a large part of the player base do care.

For me, there's no point playing a game that doesn't have a trophy or achievement system because I like to track what I've completed, what I haven't and the progress I've made. It's why I haven't got a Switch. It makes me complete games I would have previously given up on and makes me explore parts of the game the developers put effort into that never would have been found by me naturally. There are so many positives to having the system in place.

I'm also not going to rag on the crowd that don't care for them, if you just want to enjoy games then more power to you I think that's great. But don't look down on people that do like trophies and the experience that it brings.

Not to mention the fact that it got rid of the "completed it mate" gang because no mate, no you haven't, I can see from your profile you haven't. So there...

Re: 'How Do We Help Her Evolve?': Crystal Dynamics on Reimagining Tomb Raider's Lara Croft for a New Era

elvisfan1

Am I the only one that's totally confused canon wise? Why are they continuing on from Underworld? And why do the Laras in both games here look different? Totally different logos as well. It's confusing, should have just had these as two new games in a new canon and left it at that.

I understand one is a remake of the original TR, but that doesn't mean it can't be a new canon with the new graphics etc, even if it follows the old canon closely.

Re: 'Grace Is the Biggest Scaredy-Cat in Resident Evil History': Capcom Details How Leon's Gameplay Will Differ in Requiem

elvisfan1

@PuppetMaster I see where you're coming from to an extent but the story not making sense actually gives more reason for a reboot.

Also you have said that this will have a new canon, but we have a returning Leon Kennedy and I'll be surprised if we don't see Mr Redfield as he turns up everywhere.

A reboot doesn't necessarily mean we have to abandon the characters, it just gives the developers a chance to put a different spin on them for a modern audience.

Look how many times DC has been rebooted. That still reels in the cash.

Re: 'Grace Is the Biggest Scaredy-Cat in Resident Evil History': Capcom Details How Leon's Gameplay Will Differ in Requiem

elvisfan1

@PuppetMaster Sure thing. The story since 5 has been absolutely atrocious. It's so far removed from what the original game was supposed to be. No doubt Requiem will involve fighting goo at some point again. Boring. Give me a gritty, Resident Evil horror that takes it back to its roots with a new canon. It's entering into Terminator territory in terms of linking new games to an old story and it making less sense with each iteration.

The remakes are cool though. 2,3,4 all brought into the modern age. If they do 0,1 and Code Veronica I'll be a happy man.

Re: Mini Review: Yooka-Replaylee (PS5) - A Second Draft Worthy of the Banjo-Kazooie Comparisons

elvisfan1

I got the Platinum for the first game, thought it was brilliant, didn't understand the hate to be honest. As someone that grew up completing Banjo Kazooie over and over again it was like having a bunch of Member Berries.

Just got the remaster last night, love it just as much and now there's even more to do! Happy days. My one criticism would be I wish they hadn't changed the fonts from the classic BK style.

Re: Sony Buffed PS5's Wishlist, But It's Been Broken for Weeks Now

elvisfan1

The wishlist is one of the best features that's been added to this generation. Any game I want to play is in there, I can track prices, release dates, much easier than scrolling through the store or manually editing a spreadsheet. It gets checked every Wednesday for new sale prices and the app gives you a notification if a game in your list goes on sale.

It also means I see none of the AI slop that people moan about.

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About The Last of Us Part 2, 5 Years Later?

elvisfan1

It's in my top 3 games of all time. Absolute masterpiece. Not afraid to go as dark as it needed to and didn't shy away from anything. Turned two protagonists into antagonists for me and it was such a brilliant, thought-provoking story. #TeamAbby

I would hope Part 3 follows both Abby and Ellie on their separate journeys, they address the Firefly resurgence and I think a perfect ending would be Ellie finally giving her life for a vaccine. It would turn her back from antagonist to protagonist and would be a full circle moment. But that's just me.

Re: The Last of Us Season 2's Strangest Scene Was Cut from the Game

elvisfan1

I didn't mind the first series but this series has been abysmal. I think the pacing has been off, the rearranging of scenes has been detrimental to the impact of the overall story and the acting hasn't been great. Can only hope things will improve seeing Abby's side of the story but I doubt it.

At least we have the games. Last of Us II is in my top 3 of all time.

Re: Sony Stealthily Increases the Size of PS5, PS4's Needlessly Restrictive PS Store Wishlist

elvisfan1

I absolutely use the wishlist for games I want to play and leave them there until the sales are on. Not sure why some seem to be against this...it saves sifting through all the rubbish every week. Bought quite a few lately which cleared quite a bit of space for me. I've run out of space a couple of times too because I wishlist each version because sometimes one version goes on sale and the other doesn't etc.

Re: PS5 Accessories in Midnight Black Up for Pre-Order Now

elvisfan1

I pre-ordered a PS Portal this morning. Never had one before and I thought this would be a good time to jump on the bandwagon. I was a bit surprised there was no article when it first went up. It was actually available from 10am UK time on PS Direct as well from what I saw.

Re: WWE 2K23's PS5, PS4 Platinum Trophy Is No Longer Obtainable

elvisfan1

@PeaceSalad This. Trophies are huge to some people, personally I won't play a game if the trophy list looks to be too much of a nightmare. I've passed on many because of that. If I ever do get a game with online trophies I aim to knock them out first so I can then concentrate on the single player. But I don't see the point of playing a game nowadays if I don't have a virtual trinket to tell everyone where I'm up to with it. The reason I don't have a Switch is because there's no achievement / trophy system on Nintendo.

Re: Physical Media Just Can't Catch a Break Right Now

elvisfan1

@Blackbeard Yeah that's what I do and what I failed to mention in my original comment. I play the sales game tbf and rarely buy on release. My point with this is that the discounts on these sales are usually far lower than physical games ever go price wise.

Re: Physical Media Just Can't Catch a Break Right Now

elvisfan1

@Pat_trick

"Have you heard of The Crew?"

Doesn't wait for an answer:

"The fact you know nothing about it..."

Hahaha yeah OK pal. It was released on disc too which makes said disc completely useless so I don't know what your point is.

Also, sales trends agree with me which would suggest I do actually know more about the general audience than you do. People who buy physical are in the minority.

Re: Physical Media Just Can't Catch a Break Right Now

elvisfan1

@MrPeanutbutterz Agree mate, that's why I said it's just my experience in my second comment. And fair enough I'd completely neglected the fact that a lot of people resell their games.

@IntrepidWombat I don't think there's a lot of physical media that appreciates nowadays to be honest. Maybe the odd thing but not as much as it used to certainly.

Re: Physical Media Just Can't Catch a Break Right Now

elvisfan1

I'm not entirely sure why people hold physical media in such high regard. I've made the move to digital long ago, it's so much cheaper and I don't have to find a space for it to all gather dust. Yes it could shut down at any time, but what's the likelihood of that happening really?
