@theSpectre would make sense for him to retire after a milestone, exciting to think this could be his greatest game if that is the case. Even more exciting that it could be on PS6!
Excellent. Death Stranding 2 trailer is mind melting. Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin looking great. Silent Hill always good to see and a new Kojima espionage title in the works feels like a dream.
Despite haunting my dreams as a young 'un the first 3 SH games are classics. The series has a hook and knows how to do psychological horror more than most although the PS3 games, long hiatus and whatever Ascension was aiming to do are stains on the franchise. The re-reveal of SH2 remake and announcement of this caught my attention but don't excite just because of how cackhanded the franchise has been managed. Review is lower than I'd hoped but I'll still download as it's free and I feel there's some enjoyment to be had.
Playing through Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade before Rebirth lands next month. FF7 is one of my earliest and fondest gaming memories so belatedly started Remake with caution... however I'm loving it so far! In between saving the planet as Cloud and co a bit of MLB The Show 23. Have a good week all!
After suffering from Covid last week I'll be jumping back into The Finals with friends and also trying the new solo mode. Also a few games on MLB The Show which I got on sale recently. Happy gaming all!
Still really enjoying it, there's so much content and the core fighting is chef's kiss. Agree with @GeeEssEff in that the game pushes you to be better with each defeat. Learning from a loss and improving on SF6 is an incredibly rewarding process. Great to see the positive figures and reception to what is in my top 5 PS5 games. Hadouken!
Wise to launch on Plus Essential, to be fair I'll give it a go. If the game plays well and is entertaining from launch it could gain a decent following.
Great review! I really enjoyed both films and although the game looked graphically impressive it wasn't one on my wishlist as it could've been "another open world game". However your review has me interested as it seems to accompany the films and care has been taken to make this a true Avatar experience.
Haven't been on the full game yet but the beta was a blast. Hopefully the few niggles in the beta are improved, overly long time to kill being my main gripe, also matchmaking where some teams only had 1 or 2 players. Some weapons were also OP, However the core gameplay loop is very addictive, the destructive arenas are brilliantly implemented and make each game exciting, looking forward to a session this week. AI voices won't replicate the quality of a voice actor but it's not something that would put me off playing this at all.
I'll be trying to get to Driver Ranking B on GT7 Sport, race C at Grand Valley has been a joy this week. Enjoying Bloodborne in between, having previously trying and failing to get into Demon's Souls and Elden Ring, Bloodborne has been a brilliant experience so far. Currently trying to reach and get past Father Gascoigne, learning with each death my character takes.
Most memorable game I completed this year, those boss fights alone gave me my favourite gaming moments of recent years. Loved the world, story and characters. Need to do Final Fantasy mode and go for the platinum at some stage.
More GT7 Sport mode, trying to get my Driver Ranking up! Bought Madden 24 on Black Friday, impressed after a few games even though it doesn't reinvent the wheel. Scratched the surface of Bloodborne last couple of weeks so will also be collecting blood echoes where I can!
Judging by videos on YouTube this makes Gollum look like a masterpiece. Developers don't intentionally release an awful game but for the asking price this appears unacceptable. The graphics, gameplay, sound, glitches, bugs, outdated levels are all of the lowest quality. Would choose Gollum over this, a waste of a decent license and something that shouldn't reach stores in 2023.
Love the TV series but this doesn't look great. The 3D art style doesn't fit, and in my view wouldn't fit such as the awful N64 game way back. A South Park co-op experience could work but this just doesn't look or sound fun. Maybe it'll review well but expectations are low I'm afraid!
Stunned and appalled that this lawsuit is being allowed to go ahead. I prefer a boxed, physical copy when buying games but will buy digital if it's an easier option such as when stock is low, it comes with add-ons or extras or if it's on sale. If I think a digital copy was unfairly priced or not good value, I'd think outside the box and not buy it... I don't know this Alex Neill but I get the feeling she's luring consumers on to the bandwagon with the promise of compensation without understanding the consequences this lawsuit could have. Firstly it opens the floodgates for consumers to appeal against purchases they've made off any retailer as they retrospectively feel it was poor value - because surely people only buy things that they see as good value at that time? Secondly this would damage Sony and developers massively. Weekly we read reports of devs having to make staff redundant and something like this obviously isn't beneficial to the industry. Finally this adds gas to the fires of self-entitlement, a growing issue where some people don't take responsibility in this case for their spending. Hopefully this gets thrown out as it deserves to be.
Been playing GT7 as regularly as ever thanks to the wonderful Spec II update, also started Bloodborne which has been sat in my library since been part of the PS Plus collection. As someone who started and dropped off Demon's Souls and Elden Ring I'm finding Bloodborne more accessible and enjoyable. Love the gothic art style and the combat is chef's kiss
More of the same as last few weekends, mainly Gran Turismo 7, WRC and Street Fighter 6! Off to the German market in Birmingham later but will have a decent session tomorrow.
@Svark Precisely, the suits don't know or understand why single player games appeal to the number they do. It feels games like Suicide Squad are being forced on the gamers, generic and bang average game with a license that to be fair would appeal to many but gone the wrong way about. Also agree the shelf life of this could be a record.
The corporate/management side of things only see how much money can be made from a product/game, and in theory live-service increases revenue because of season passes, DLC etc bringing in the monies over a longer period of time compared to the one-off sale of a boxed or digital game. So there is an ounce of logic with what this CEO is saying. However it falls apart when you realise creating a successful live-service game is basically finding a needle in a haystack. For every Fortnite there's probably 20, 30+ failures? Every week there seems to be a game closing its servers after increasingly short periods of time. Additionally the percentage of gamers who want this type of game compared to what percentage executives think want this sort of thing is wildly different. If you haven't got that instant hook, offer something different or increasing player count and positive feedback they're on to a loser. Based on that State of Play I know what my prediction for this one is...
The less connections that Twitter/X, or whatever it's going by at the time, has to anything whether it's tech, news, media or society in general, the better for everybody.
Long term CM/FM player starting on Championship Manager 2000/01, though I've dropped off last couple of editions as they are impressive in depth and complexity compared to the older games, but that's also the negative as FM is such a time sink it's difficult to fit any other gaming in. Understand that the game has evolved and still has that addictive 'one more match' hook but FM is almost a full-time hobby how it is now. I've never played a console version on PS or XB back in the day but similar to F1 Manager, if I wanted to play I'd always get the PC version.
Welcome and swift update, playing last night the core gameplay, feel of rallying and wide range of options are great but the technical issues were far too noticeable. Frame rate drops and screen tearing were highly disruptive, but the patch notes are promising regarding performance as well as the other improvements.
Although everyone will have different opinions on what should win game of the year, every gamer will agree 2023 has been one stacked year for great releases!
This is obviously very poor but surely the devs were forced to release the game and this statement when they did. It would be illogical for them to defend an unfinished product on release and hope potential buyers give them the benefit of the doubt. Especially as this a low-key release. There are too many instances of unfinished releases which isn't acceptable given the price of a new game these days.
Enjoyable beta and will almost definitely be downloading on release. The core gameplay loop, movement/parkour, customisation and destructive arenas are all excellent. The shooting needs work as the pace is slowed down as many comments above say, the time-to-kill is far too long. Agree that the flamethrower is OP, the sword as well. The game show theming fits really well and the AI voices isn't preferable but I wouldn't not download play because of that. Hopefully a full release before end of the year?
They're OK at a push. I added Mafia 1 when it was available but still haven't downloaded it. Aliens I thought (and hoped) it was the strategy release from earlier this year but it seems a fairly generic shooter, may add to library as a bit of mindless co-op fun. Dragon Ball: The Breakers isn't for me. Not a great or even good month but my backlog is large enough!
Great review, my copy arrived Friday and I've only scratched the surface so far but the pros and cons seem fair. Graphics, slight technical issues and the tarmac driving are negatives but the rallying itself feels great, especially in cockpit view with a Pulse headset. The stages are varied and challenging and there's plenty of content to go at, and patches will improve the issues at launch.
Will be spending time on Gran Turismo 7 after the jam packed update this week. Starting up on WRC for a different type of driving, and getting some Street Fighter 6 in between!
I would be excited at the prospect of more Silent Hill remakes, however the MGS collection having an underwhelming reception, so little of Silent Hill 2 remake being shown since the reveal and Silent Hill Ascension appearing to be worse than terrible I have lost some faith in Konami doing their flagship series' justice in the future. Agree with SH1 & 3 remakes would be welcome, if they're done well
Looks a meaty update! Polyphony have supported the game amazingly well and helped make GT7 my most played PS5 game and favourite racer. Would like some QOL improvements but the game remains a joy to play. New track and cars looks great, Sophy returning in quick race mode is a welcome addition, and more menus/challenges are another reason to play.
Great review. Sems to tick many boxes of what a good remake should do to bring an older game to modern platforms. Star Ocean isn't an RPG series I've played but seems a good place to start with this one. The art style is stunning!
The ethics of AI is a wide, open topic of discussion and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who would rather have AI voiceovers than actual voice actors. As well as being a minefield of ethics the quality is a noticeable drop and I can see why there is a negative reception to this. Saying that, the beta is fun if flawed. The gameplay loop, movement, parkour, art style and destructive arenas are all great I feel. The shooting, lack of noticeable aim assist, matchmaking issues and little appeal to solo players aren't as great however if these were fixed for full release I wouldn't not download it because of the use of AI. The designers words could be read as dismissive, even abrupt, but at least he's honestly answered the question asked to him.
Pre ordered the physical edition which I hope is with me by Friday. Hope anyone who has it downloaded today is enjoying it! Seems a complete rally package from the preview videos and trailers.
@AldusRavencorn Same GT7 is my most played PS5 game and agree with all of your suggestions, most vital for me are the customisable HUD and some new tracks would be nice. Penalty system in Sport mode urgently needs updating as it's currently inconsistent in how and when players are penalised
New to the site but congratulations on the 500. Great to see a feature going strong after so many weeks! I'm currently playing through Assassin's Creed Mirage - enjoyable if not groundbreaking, but a great location full of beautiful scenery and good to have the series go back to its roots for this one. Also I find it hard to resist a desert setting. Few Sport races on GT7 in between and planning which horror game to play through Halloween week.
The idea of a good game appeared to be there at the beginning but endless delays, multiple changes of direction and what is a mess behind the scenes means that this will probably be mediocre at best and forgotten about shortly after release, whenever that will be.
Pleasantly surprised to see full marks, wasn't expecting that beforehand! The positive reviews have caught my attention, never played the first game but added to library more out of curiosity when it was available on Plus recently. Certainly a series I'll start sooner rather than later!
