Re: CD Projekt RED Fully Focused on Current-Gen for Cyberpunk 2077, PS5 Version Is a 'Maybe'

crawdaddy

I'm just a little nervous that the console version will have some performance issues. The Witcher 3 struggled at first, and took a few months of patching to run smoothly. Thronebreaker had serious issues on PS4 at launch, which were fixed fairly quickly. Hoping they give this the extra love it needs in order to look and play great.

I'm still using my launch PS4, and I expect it to cross the finish line next year, even if it's limping a bit...

Re: Some Fans Think Remedy and PlayStation May Be Partnering

I don't mean to be a hater, but I cringed hard when Ninja Theory showed that online-only brawler, Bleeding Edge. I'm sure it'll be fun for the right audience, but what a departure from Hellblade! Granted, it seems like a side-project and MS just wanted to get titles on stage.

This does seem like the kind of subtle, playful teasing that Shuhei and Friends enjoy doing. Their MO has been high-quality narrative-driven single-player games, so Remedy is already in their wheelhouse. With Quantic Dream going multi-platform, it also kind of fills their place. Sony seems to want to stay at the forefront of "interactive cinema" type experiences as well, which makes sense given that they're a major player in the media industry.

Re: Media Molecule Teases an Update on Dreams Later This Month

I have a theory that Sony wants to release the game with PSVR support at launch. I know originally they wanted release the VR update at a later time, but perhaps all this additional development time is partly to ensure that the VR side is ready Day One. It would make a bigger splash if it worked on PSVR right away, especially with the more mainstream press. Dreams will be a lot more accessible than existing VR creation apps on Oculus/Vive, due to the lower cost and established user base. With a big launch, it could be a bit of a pop-culture phenomenon. It's a very empowering creative toolkit and I hope it gets the attention it deserves.

Re: Gamescom 2018: Shenmue III Continues the Saga on 27th August

@Kidfried - You nailed it. Show us Ryo walking around a populated town - checking out a few shops, not buying a hot dog, chatting with the locals - so we can see the atmosphere. The original was so good at putting you right into Tokyo, and I think the biggest challenge for the team now is to recreate that sensation, without the massive budget they had for the first game. I think the formula still can work, if it keeps the focus on living all the intimate details of Ryo's life. I think depth, rather than breadth, is what they should be shooting for. It's gonna be really interesting seeing how a Shenmue game plays in 2018....er, 2019. I'm keeping my hopes in check. But I'm still thrilled they're doing this!

Re: Sony to Announce New PS4 Games Daily Prior to E3 2018

My guess is that the release date is for Days Gone. It has been getting a lot of coverage recently, and the fact that they let so many outlets play and stream it is a good indication that it is close to completion. I don't see Dreams having quite the same interest level, but then again these are just pre-E3 appetizers.

For that last one, the way they worded it is interesting: "An Eagerly Anticipated Game Comes to PSVR"

Perhaps this is a VR tie-in to an upcoming AAA game. I'm thinking maybe a Spiderman web-slinging experience, or maybe some sort of environmental exploration of the setting for Death Stranding(something along the lines of PT). A fairly small VR feature/teaser/mini-game could build hype for an upcoming game, and sell more people on PSVR by bringing a big-name IP to the platform. Judging by these announcements, Sony certainly appears to be re-affirming their commitment to the medium.

The new PS4 game could be Stormdivers, Housemarque's new project. This is something that is perhaps not quite AAA, E3-level stuff, but cool enough to be called out on its own. Pretty excited for this one either way.

Re: After Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red Plans to Release Another 'AAA RPG' By 2021

Considering that CDPR have eschewed traditional business models and shown that they march passionately to the beat of their own drum, we could see a teaser for this new game before Cyberpunk drops. They did release that teaser for Cyberpunk well before Wild Hunt hit the market. My guess would be either a shorter Witcher game featuring Ciri, or, a major expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 along the lines of Blood and Wine, and likely stand-alone. B&W was quite a meaty expansion, and came out about a year after TW3. I can't imagine them developing a new IP in the 2 years after Cyberpunk, but a Cyberpunk spin-off seems plausible.

CDPR like to challenge themselves to grow and try new things, and I hope their era of this philosophy is long and fruitful. Moving away from The Witcher, and not having a pre-set character in Cyberpunk will be a big change, and will certainly give them fresh challenges.

Meanwhile, while The Witcher is on hiatus, Gwent will keep people invested in that world, especially its single-player campaigns. The core Witcher novels have all been translated into English, and other languages, so folks can get their fix there as well. The cherry on top is the TV show based on the Witcher Saga that Netflix is preparing. By the time they announce The Witcher 4, people will be foaming in anticipation!

Re: Sony Has Lots of Good Stuff Planned for GamesCom Next Week

Well, they also announced LBP3 at E3. I really hope there's one more big exclusive for this Fall/Holiday. It feels like they need one more game to complete the picture. Maybe The Witness will be ready by year's end? Galak-Z? Planetside 2 would fit in nicely.

We haven't heard anything at all about RIME, just the trailer last year that invoked Journey, Shadow of the Colossus, and Ico, which basically screamed "here's our cool new artistic game". I was pretty pumped, but I hope we get some details now. I don't even know if it's a full retail release, or a smaller downloadable game.

Re: Don't Worry, PS4's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Won't Be Dark and Gritty

crawdaddy

I look forward to getting the same sense of wonder that I felt when playing Among Thieves. With new hardware, I'm sure they won't disappoint in the art department. I have to imagine that they will be setting the stage for another studio to take the helm - possibly bringing an end to Nate's story but also defining what an Uncharted game can be. I would like to see ND move on to completely new ideas, so they can continue to evolve their games. They've influenced gaming enough that we'll get lots of cinematic adventures like Uncharted from other sources. The Order, for example, looks very much like a PS3 era Naughty Dog game.

Still totally psyched to see what they do with Thief's End though. It might just be the first truly great game on PS4.
