I disagree that graphics can’t get meaningfully better, but agree that graphics should not be the only focus of PS6. There needs to be focus on enabling gameplay simulations and mechanics that weren’t possible before.
As a pro owner, "shortchanged" is definitely a good way to describe how I feel. Seems like every new game that comes out, I wonder more why I bought the damn thing. I think first-party games are getting good support, at least.
@get2sammyb are we sure PS5 will even be the lowest spec? The handheld Ps6 might be slower than a base PS5 in some key areas, like CPU performance. If all games have to be built to run on that thing, it could really hamper what is possible next gen
Not entirely surprising. This is what happens when fools like Phil Spencer mistakenly bet everything on Gamepass. Once it's clear it's not going to be the golden goose he promised everyone, the execs higher up in MS don't have much financial reason to fund these projects. They aren't passionate gamers.
It was the number 3 best seller on both Steam and PS store. That has to be a good sign. Maybe a lot of gamers just haven’t gotten to playing it yet but will soon enough (like me).
Will Sony be able to recover from this? It’s not just the unfathomable amount of time and money wasted. Their reputation is falling off a cliff. It will take a lot to win back respect of their fans they’ve let down with this mess
Doom Eternal is my favorite shooter ever, so this is exciting. Although I don’t know how I feel a bout a pure medieval setting. I love how Eternal had a huge diversity of settings.
I feel like if they didn’t bloat Rebirth with tons of minigames and open world stuff they would have spent a lot less making the game, and would have been a less risky investment. And more people like myself would be inclined to buy it, who are growing weary of massive games and don’t have the time
@zancoooo I agree. It goes a looong way to improve the experience over 30FPS but the cost to system resources is so much smaller than 60 FPS. Wish more games had it.
People are getting spoiled because there’s been so many cross gen games that can run at 60. It feels like the standard.
More complex games that simply can’t run on last gen hardware at all (like GTA6), will likely be capped at 30. They will push the limit of the CPU. Lowering resolution won’t magically speed up the game simulation.
I would honestly like to see more games that push the envelope in this way, but some games like Doom, just wouldn’t make sense at 30fps.
The redesign looks really good without the disc drive, but with it attached... yikes.
It looks like it just doesn't belong on the system. Like it's some sort of giant infected pustule that needs to be popped off. Like on one of those resident evil monsters.
I can definitely believe development costs have gone up a lot... but haven't game sales also gone up substantially? And don't all the micro transactions and special editions they sell at higher prices help out with that?
As owner of both PS4 pro and Xbox One X, I can say that I notice and appreciate the large difference in power between those two systems. 3rd party games (like Red Dead 2) usually look a lot sharper on xbox these days and I typically buy them on that system now. It's hard to ignore specs and power if you care about the fidelity of the experience like I do.
That being said, there's devs saying that the actual performance diff between the upcoming consoles isn't that great. If that's the case (we will see) then no, the inferior specs (on paper) of PS5 don't really matter much, even for people like me.

Good news, but give it a few weeks before Xbox screws something up again. Always one step forward, one step (or more) back with them

@thefourfoldroot1 it’s definitely not irrelevant. Sony does not get a dime from second hand sales.

This isn’t terribly surprising given the rising costs of components. Doesn’t bode well for future console generations

@PuppetMaster you should play Prince of Persia when get the chance. It remains fun throughout the game
Re: UK Sales Charts: Prince of Persia, Cyberpunk Jump Back into Top 10
It’s good to see Prince Of Persia in top 10. Just beat this game a couple weeks ago, it is honestly an amazing game.
Almost didn’t buy it cause I hate Ubisoft and hate the way they marketed this game. Glad I gave it a chance.

Also relieved they replaced the trash hip hop music from the reveal trailer with a decent soundtrack that makes sense for this game.
