@Nexozi “I remember a video I think it was last year where they practically boasted that they would just down tools for 2 weeks on their main game and work on random games.”
That’s essentially what Game Freak did for the development of Pokémon X and Y, albeit by splitting their developers into two teams.
As a result we got true masterpieces like Pocket Card Jockey and Giga Wrecker.
I don’t want anyone to lose their jobs in this, but Double Fine should seriously consider pivoting to games people actually want to buy or that will unfortunately be the outcome.
I have a sinking feeling that all the game’s profits will go to management and investors while the staff are permanently laid off. That’s usually how things go in late-stage capitalism.
@Neuromancer We get it, you hate any characters that aren’t straight white males. That doesn’t mean gaming is designed solely to please your preferences. “Modern audiences” is just your way of referring to anyone who isn’t a straight white male, as if they don’t have a right to be represented in games.
Japan still doesn’t have same-sex marriage given how deeply conservative older generations are. It’s too bad the developers bow to pressure from people who will never, ever play their games in the first place.
I love FAST channels because both cable and streaming services have become obscenely expensive.
I just wish Sony would include BBC and Sky News! They’re great sources to have in America for an international perspective and both are free elsewhere.
This thread just confirms what I’ve been saying about these boycott people being the most irrational and petulant people on earth. It would be awesome if they sold their consoles so they don’t populate matchmaking lobbies anymore.
@RoomWithaMoose “Nintendo still sells physical — rather successfully, actually.” It’s almost as if a company selling to families has a different business model than a company selling to adults.
@icarusdreams “People are just oblivious to changes that aren’t immediately apparent.” Consumers are the ones driving this change. Take a moment to reflect on why you are so easily duped into believing conspiracy theories.
@ChromaticDracula Modern games are 100+ GB and cartridges of that size cost $20+ each versus under $1 for a disc. No, they’re absolutely not going back to cartridges.
@Rich33 The number of people genuinely upset by the end of physical discs, and not just performing outrage for likes, is vanishingly small. You could see this kind of crap coming from a mile away when the ragebait ecosystem on YouTube spun into full gear around the release of Mario Kart World.
Funnily enough, there is very little online ragebait related to Xbox’s numerous hardware price increases (far more egregious than Sony’s) and the fact that their first-party games don’t even include the full game files on the disc anymore.
In short, it’s pure selective outrage by PC and Xbox players pretending to be Sony and Nintendo gamers.
@rjc-32 The Pro doesn’t have a significantly faster CPU than the base model, so 60fps is not realistically achievable. They’re not going to intentionally hobble their game out of the gate to sell it later down the line…
Crimson Desert shows that a game can be a buggy, broken mess that still doesn’t run at a consistently frame rate and it will still sell millions of copies. Gamers really do fall for “Unreal Engine 5 demo” graphics.
That’s great news, because I want my trophies and 4K support. Ports of the originals would be something at least, but PSP resolution is hard to look, even with the integer upscale of the Vita. (Though it’s possible to just render the original assets in a higher-resolution frame, which can look pretty good. Arcade Archives 2: Ridge Racer comes to mind.)
@Bizzy They’re subpoenaing the platforms where the leaks were posted to reveal the identity of the leaker(s), which would certainly be… a choice… if it was their own contractors. I also imagine it could get them in legal trouble if they were abusing the legal process for a false flag operation. Lawyers could get disbarred for doing so knowingly.
@PuppetMaster If you were running Sony would you just not adjust prices for inflation? How do you think that would work out for you and for the company?
Thank you Yoshida-san for being a rare voice of reason. The silent majority who aren’t trying to draw revenue sharing from Twitter and YouTube are with you.
@tameshiyaku How badly will it “affect Sony over a longer period” when 85% of Sony game sales are already digital? Microsoft doesn’t even include the game on the disc anymore and requires a full download for first-party games. Where are people going to spend their money? Just stop playing games to win internet points?
I think you are totally mistaken about people defending Sony out of tribalism. I own all three current-gen consoles and 100% of my purchases now are digital.
I’m on the side of common sense.
I’m also observant enough of consumer trends to understand that neither Project Helix nor PS5 will include a disc drive.
If you think we’re all brainless mobs then you can continue enjoying your PS5 when you’re eighty.
@ThomasHL Why is it Sony’s responsibility to tell you what a game is about if the devs themselves can’t do so? That’s like asking your theater chain to explain what Spider-Man is about. Not their job, and if they have to do so, the studio has already failed.

Re: Chadley Has a 'Strong Role' in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's Story, Despite Being Hated by Everyone
@Veritas7Ax I would be fine if the cringe Marvel sidekick that would have felt dated in 2019 wasn’t in ANY of the game.
Re: Chadley Has a 'Strong Role' in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's Story, Despite Being Hated by Everyone
I love Final Fantasy, I really do, but Chadley in Rebirth is by far the worst thing about it. It’s not even close.
Re: GTA 6 Extended Look Was Comfortably Netflix's Most-Watched Title of Last Week
People thought the leaks were going to detract from the game, meanwhile they just gave it free publicity 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Instead of Pokémon Z.

Re: State of Play Confirmed for 3rd September, State of Play Japan Show Straight After
All I want to see is Final Fantasy VII! Sony can get lost with these live service games (except Destiny, bring that one back).

@L_Bosch People have been saying gay rights will “end Western civilization” for half a century now. Somehow we are still fine.

I’m sure Sony is terrified of all five people doing this.

GTA VI really goes to show that the Crimson Desert devs weren’t struggling with a “weak” base PS5, they’re just terrible at optimization.
Re: GTA 6 Contains No Microtransactions or Generative AI, Rockstar Says
@stefan771 It’s a ridiculous argument to say that redone textures and lighting are worse for gaming than EA loot boxes. Horrible take.

That’s excellent news. Shame on all the companies replacing human voice actors and artists with mid AI imitations.

This makes me feel so much better about not splurging on the Pro. This was the one game that would have made the purchase worthwhile.

Netflix and Rockstar laughing their ***es off that their event and game are getting so much free publicity.
It’s not the case here, but have you ever thought about why companies do controlled leaks? 🤭

Re: GTA 6 Gameplay Leaks Continue as Group Makes Demands of Rockstar
@Old-Red The game hasn’t leaked, a few seconds of early beta gameplay has. Making it a physical disc wouldn’t have changed that in the slightest.

I’m sure attempting to extort Rockstar over the all-digital future will work. Showing the absolute maturity of this crowd.

Beautiful. 🤣🤣🤣

Re: Sony's Purge on PS5 Shovelware May Now Have Hit a Legit Indie Dev
Devs should stop making games for the purpose of gaming the Trophy system and maybe their games will stop being delisted.
Most if not all shovelware developers are indies and it’s totally subjective whether they are “legit” or not.
Re: 'It's a Relentless Onslaught': Wolverine PS5 Dev Responds to Unprecedented Criticism
Terminally-online PlayStation gamers once again proving themselves the bottom of the barrel. Disgusting.
