@Mr-Cage
I can't get worked up over video game plastic & cardboard anymore, especially the modern stufff which is generally so boring, hallow, vaccant and corporate. They evoke zero fun vs the 80's & 90's stuff.
I've felt like this way with PlayStation physical media since PS3. Never cared for any of it, including PS4 and now PS5. Same thing aplies to everything XBOX related. Digital works for me. No ugly plastic & cardboard eating up my space, plus convenience. Although i don't mind stashing the actual discs in a binder. Which means I'd technically own the game and can still sell it.
Either way, I'm almost 42. I'm half way through my life if I'm lucky. Modern physical video games, when you factor in how measily, empy and unatractive they generally are these days is not really important to me anymore. I just feel bad for the kids who are going to wind up getting PlayStation 6 & maybe Switch 2 point cards in their Christmas Stockings or B-day presents. where's the fun in that!? lol
@SMJ
I thought Origins was like a solid 4-5/10 purely based on the gameplay/platforming itself. OST was a mixed bag, and the graphics either looked beautiful or jarringly cheap even for it's time. I played it on PS3 & Wii and it was a huge dissapointment coming from the 1995 PS1 Original, which btw they funked up with the recent collection since it doesn't include the original soundtrack.
I'd rather play this in 4K, if possible on NS2, since the DualSense's D-pad feels awful to the touch.
For me, the greatest Console 2D platfomers from the 2000's were easily Wario Land Shake it!, Klonoa(Wii), Mega Man 9, Castlevania The Adventure ReBirth and maybe, just maybe, Kirby's Epic Yarn.
I enjoyed the visual yarn aesthetic and OST more than the actual gameplay. A little too slow and easy breezey for my liking. Donkey Kong Country Returns didn't make the list because of the terrible shoe horned motion controls. Wario Land Shake it is how u do motion controls perfectly in a 2D platformer.
@CheesyOatcake
VR/MR will no doubt be the future and will coincide with flatscreen & handheld gaming. The biggest important factor is form factor. Meta's 2027 Pheonex has the right idea. 100g light, in the form of glasses, but it uses an external tethered power puck(housing the compute power & battery) that clips on to your belt/waist, which is a double edged sword, since it's 'more stuff' and not self contained, but at the same time it dramitically reduces the size and weight, and we get VR glasses which is what everybody wants.
Steam Frame is also on the right track, but it's still technically a headset and it's still 425g heavy. But then you don't have to deal with a cable & a puck. Seems like the best consumer friendly(ish) headset to pave the way Vs PSVR2 & Quest 3, but the problem is it feels like a place holder. There's no exclusive content for launch, and i can't see it pushing the VR needle all that much. I'm getting one day one for PCVR, but i view it as a stand-in until PSVR3 + PS6 hopefully happens.
I can't imagine Nintendo hopping aboard the VR-Train until NS3 in the earlier 2033. Once all of the niggles are ironed out and perfected. They've got the franchises in the bag to make VR explode. If Nintendo's VR glasses utlized MR too, we could get color passthrough, and a size adjustable MR display that could give NS3 games stereoscopic 3D.
So ya, I'm super optimistic and enthusiastic for the platform and to see where it's headed, but we're currently in a VR Slump. Boz from Meta hinted at a Quest 4 announcement for their upcoming September Metaconnect, Steam Frame is maybe a month away, Pheonex is coming in 2028, and never say never with PSVR3 for PS6.
All of the extremist/absolutist exagerated doom & gloom VR regurgitation on YouTube is so irritating, because it's typically driven by clicks & hits, money and reeling subscribers in. How many VR talking heads do we need to recite the same old sh**? It's like everybody wants a piece of the pie, like a bunch of greedy money hungry pirahanas. With those cringey bug eyed gaping mouthed thumb nails and bold hyperbolic video titles. lol They're sell outs. Money talks at the end of the day, and they'll do anything to keep their little side hustle in check, especially if it's their only job.
@NerdyPaul
The same old random cries in the talk back over no physical media. Taking a stance in hopes of Sony switching gears and offering physical again. I mean I get it, but it's overkill, especially when you factor in the overabundance of talking heads on YouTube riding off the topic for more coin as if any of them truly have a unique perspective on the matter.
I'll only get PS6 is PSVR3 happens, or there's something truly innovative that really switches things up, like S3D Glasses and makes PS feel less played out these days. PS has felt played out since PS3, at least for me. I think I've beaten 4 flatscreen games since PS5 launched, and used it mostly for PSVR2.
For PS6, I'm expecting Haptics 2 for the controller and maybe a couple new other features, 2-3x the power of a base PS5(With PSSR3 etc) and not much else. And PSVR3 may not happen. Feels like we're stuck in a video game landscape of what feels like graphcial diminishing returns. Nothing looks mind blowing or impressive anymore, unless it's VR imo which has plenty of room for growth.
@Chaotic_Goat
PC doesn't even count imo, it's a side thing. The level of friction and frustration makes it the odd man out.
It's all about Nintendo & PlayStation, and to a much lesser extent XBOX. Plug n' play is the name of the game, affordibility, being an utterly simple easy purchase, controller & hardware innovations, combined with an aresenal of popular renowned franchises and the best in-class game opitmization.
I'm only interested in going PC for VR and VR only. Steam Frame being the best current all-rounder, for the price, minus it's LCD black levels. If Sony announces PSVR3 for PS6 than I'm down 100% and doing away with PCVR. PS6 digital only you say? I've been digital only with PS since PS4 Pro and I've got no regrets. It suits my lifestyle more. I don't like PS3, PS4 & PS5 physical media. They don't look like pieces of art, nor are they substantial, the way PS1 Long box games felt in 95/96. They're corporate vacant bland ugly flimsy throwaways. They're not event trying anymore. I treat PS now like a plug n play PC.
Nintendo NS1, depending, is more attractive and maybe even NS2 physical media if there's no ugly cross-play/multi-console white text banner at the bottom of the cover art. the physical media for DK Bananza & Kirby Air Riders both look great imo, at least from the front.
@Chaotic_Goat
lol Even if the PS6 winds up having 2-3x the power of a base PS5, along with PSSR3 and other future AI tech, it's still probably going to cost less than half the price of a similar powered PC. Plug n play friendly too. I just want PSVR3, or some other type of unexpected wild innovation. Not interested in just another power console with a predicatle spec upgrade.
Might get a couple of new controller innovations like Haptics 2 and whatever, but it just doesn't feel exciting or 'enough' anymore.I miss the days of outlandish unique physical media, 80s & 90s system box art, ballsy hardware and controller innovations. Now it's all about doing the bare mininum, 'effenciency' and being less intrusive/playing it safe. PSVR1 & PSVR2 are execptions obviously. Yet for me personally, flatscreen gaming with PS has felt played out since PS3. The beginning of the PS1 days in 95 & 96' were the golden years, at least for me. It was transformative coming from SNES & Genesis, and even managed to knock my socks off even coming from Saturn which i owned since launch in 95'
Give me 3D Glasses that can transform any PS6 flatscreen title with stereoscopic 3D visuals, PSVR3, or PlayStation Smell-O-Vision. lol
@nomither6
I'm probably one of the few on here who doesn't have any interest in PlayStation(or XBOX) physical media outside of PS1, and even then that's whaning hard on my end aside from some of those awesome 1995 Long box releases like with Resident Evil 1, Jumping Flash!, Battle Arena Toshinden, just to name a few.
I most likely won't get PS6 if there's no PSVR3. Instead, a Steam Frame(or whichever latest and greatest VR glasses pave the way afterwards in 2028 and onwards) with a beefier PC(5070 Ti or better. Supposedly PS6 will have 2-3x the power of a base PS5, with PSSR3, which they're saying will give it power somewhere in between a 5070 & 5070 Ti).
I'm even struggling to get into RE9: Requiem on PS5, after experiencing RE Village on PSVR2(Along with RE7 & RE4R VR)especially after catching a glimpse of the latest Requiem PCVR mod in action which looks better than what PSVR2 on PS5 Pro is capable of, thanks to 72-90fps, higher resolution & SuperSamplinge with a beefier rig. RE Veronica will have a PCVR mod available next year too, around a month after the flatscreen version releases. As much as i loved RE2 Remake(S-tier) running at 120fps on PS5 on my big 65" OLED and grea pair of headphones(Plus DAC), and even RE3 Remake, i just can't go back to playing RE flat.
Unless Sony does something wildly innovative with PS6(like PSVR3, or glasses that make 2D flat games, S3D), I have very little interest. Heck, 95% of their exclusives do nothing for me. PlayStation, imo, has felt played out since PS3. The beginning of the PS1 era was hands down the golden era(especially for those coming from both SNES & Genesis, and even Saturn), and PSVR1 during the late 2010's was completely transormative and made us feel like we were discovering video games for the first time all over again.
@BrokenByTheScream If 90% of my digital PS5 library were permantly deleted tomorrow i wouldn't give a rats a**. lol
When I've experienced a game, and all that it has to offer than it's pretty much a wrap on my end. I leave it in the memory banks and move on to the next game that that's new to me. I just hate Digital's lack of resale value, and the possibility of the games liscence being revoked(Which essentially turns digital into a long term rental instead of owning it).
@Lukeded
I don't mess with PlayStation physical media, I treat it like Steam.
The only time i ever cared for PS physical media was in 1995 & 1996 with some of the long box releases, like Resident Evil 1, Battle Arena Toshinden, Jumping Flash, just to name a few. When it comes to physical video game media, i'm more into the 8-16 bit generations, but even my enthusiasm and love for that stuff is waning and drying up.
@TooOldForGamesNow
The uniqueness & artistry is gone in terms of design/aestehtics, has been since PS3 imo and dare I say PS2, AND the possibility of revoking your digital games liscence is the biggest problem here. That should be illegal.
It's utter BS that PS6 owners will drop full price for a digital game, that may no longer be accessible in 10-15 years time if the liscence gets revoked which would deny you access even if the game is still stored on to your account/system.
Have the option for both physical & digital, with Digital costing a little less, with a 'Digital' 2-3 hour return window policy incase you're unhappy with your purchase, and no liscence revoking.
PS5 physical media, including PS4 and PS3 before it, look as cheap, lazy, uncreative, unnatractive and throwaway as it gets, slathered in legal text agreement. There's zero appeal imo, other than resale value. I've been 99% digital since PS4 Pro & NS1. No regrets.
I'm way more interested in physical game media from the 80s & 90s, but even then thats starting wane.
@CaptD
Yup, that's kind of what i remember. The Persistence was available through one of the three PSVR Digtial Demo discs. It was pretty neat for it's time, but Space Odyssey left a much bigger impression and impact on me. A lot of it doesn't hold up though simply because PSVR1's poor pixelated soft low resolution, noticeable screen door affect and for whatever reason it's not delivering OLED blacks, they look grey. PSVR2 has deeper blacks. Once you get a taste of both PSVR2, Q3 & now Steam Frame it makes it nearly impossible to appreciate what the PSVR1 is doing. There are exceptions like Astro Bot: RM and the great white shark from Ocean Descent, but none of it feels mind blowing or as magical as it once did in the late 2010's.
The only recent Dead Space-likes in VR that i can think of today are Cosmo Dread(PSVR2) which is blurry, unpolished and rough around the edges, & Memorem(Quest 3) which i hear didn't exactly live up to the hype.
Sigh, Quest 3 had such a magical launch during Q4 of 2023, with so much promise and excitement, but that's all over now. I still love it for it's mixed reality games(Ocean Rift MR, Puzzling Places MR and so on) & the Theatre Eslwhere app. Plus those pancake lenses, 25 pixels per degree, higher sub pixel count from it's RGB LCD Display, zero head movement motion blur at 100 nits brightness, and lack of Mura ultimately make it a clear step above PSVR2 purely in terms of image clarity, putting aside the much better form factor. But as everybody knows the black levels suck, and it doesn't have as good 3D depth perpection thanks to it's lower stereo overlap.
And ya, we all thought Sony was going to follow through with the entire Hybrid approach, but that didn't pan through after Resident Evil 4 Remake. The PCVR hybrid Mod scene is the only place for that.
And 9 more days until State of Play. There's a 5% chance we'll get a Resident Evil 9: Requiem VR Unveil. lol If it doesn't happen, my PSVR2 days will be over after i get a Steam Frame and good PC. Might even get the Dream Air SE too.
@carlos82 lol Off Spring. Don't get me wrong, i loved OS back in the early 90's, but my tastes have changed since then. I'd rather have an 80's Crazy Taxi sequel, driving around with either 80's synth pop tunes(Throw in some 1990 Technotronic while we're at it) or glam metal.
Also, have you checked out 'Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom' for PC? Hopefully it drops on either Switch 1/2 & PS5. If not, at least it's playable on Steam machine
@CaptD
Wipeout was a trip, but the low pixelated resolution really held it back, including reprojection at 60. I don't even think PSVR2 could get it clocked at 90 at 2K per eye. We'd need a PS6 for that.
And wasn't The Persistence kind of like Dead Space in VR? I remember playing a demo of it if that's the one you're describing. Unforunaetly, PSVR2 never had the leadership with the same level of enthusiasm as PSVR1 did.
I'm just repeating myself, but the fact that we didn't get Astro Bot: RM, RE7, Ocean descent, gems like Monster of the Deep, Everybody Loves Golf, Skyrim, The Last Guardian etc was a complete fail on Sony's end. Nor any simple backwards compatability with simple PSVR2 opitmization to get games running at higher resolution & frame rates, or even just as is. Those titles have been left for dead on PSVR1, and i can't stand going back to VR1 anymore because of the cumbersome set up, camera, and low resolution.
Sony missed the Mark. I have faith they'll get it right with PSVR3 for PS6, But the passion and confidence with the future of the platform has to be there with the right team. Can't wait to get the Steam Frame, sure it wont have OLED blacks, but it does practically everything better in terms of image quality & form factor.
@CaptD It's do or die time for Resident Evil: Requiem VR, if they don't unveil it on June 2nd, I'm throwing in the towel and just going to play the PCVR mod instead. Astrobot: RM, Ocean Descent and RE7 VR would be amazing to get on PSVR2 but its highly unlikely at this point. Those 3 should of been available at launch.
I wish they'd port over AstroBot(PS5) to PC so the PC Modders would VR-ify it. Regardless, PS's idenitity & character will dwindle completely without any exclusives under it's belt.
I personally don't care about 95% of the exclusives, I only use my PS5 for the occasional PSVR2 game these days. Subside's Makao Shelf, Secret of the mimick and hopefully Resident Evil 9 VR with a June State of Play Announcement are the big 3 I'm the most excited to play next.
@Oppyz666
With Neogeo physical, no emulated laggy bs that makes everything feel less responsive and heavy like with arcade archives, you get to play the carts on original hardware with a CRT(Presitine blur-free motion clarity that no OLED TV can match) over composite for that authentic Neogeo arcade experience and authentic/original Arcade stick and Console. It's just ya, a lot more expensive. More so the carts than anything else.
@Ichiban
Bang back a frozen berry, mango, organic cacao(Nibs or powder) caffeine whey protein smoothie, and a couple of TBS of 100% Extra Virgin Olive(Kirkland) on the side and you'll be flying.
Energy aside, the cacao will enhance your mood etc. It's the only way i can ever game these days at 41. XD It's incredibly healthy, and it's a great pick me up! Makes you a lot more honed into what you're playing and really ramps up the enjoyment.
@Luigia
I have around 50 neogeo arcade archives games on Switch, and ya, they all feel laggy. Go figure, at least 1 frame/17ms(best case scenario) of lag from the emulation, 10ms of lag from a 4K TV's game mode, and then however much from your wireless controller. MEH. $9.99 a pop is super cheap to buying an actual negeo cart, and it's all convenient of course.
But if you go for the Negeo+ and pair it with a CRT TV with composite cables, you're going to get a near latency free experience, with instantaneous controls, an authentic CRT Arcade/Neogeo look(CRT's perfect motion clarity and image, just like you rememeber it in the arcades) paired with an authentic replica console & wired arcade stick.
I just can't get on board though with those NeoGeo+ game prices though. They're listed as $100.99(Cad) a pop on Amazon. That's crazy.
In terms of controls, the NS2 version with it's Pro 2 controller, I'm hearing comes out on top, if you're a fan of Gyro since it NS2 has '9'-Axis vs Sony's older 6-axis, both with the same 250hz polling rate. Except 9-Axis is a lot more reliable and accurate.
I enjoyed the PS5 demo for Pragmata, but it's 6-axis gyro wasn't always fully reliable , and i wish i could use a digital shoulder button to fire rather than a trigger, like with the NS2 Pro controller. it's a matter of going for greater gyro aiming & Digital shoulder buttons plus an Asymetrical stick layout which i perfer, or greater graphics, resolution & locked at 60fps with PS5 Pro.
@Discol76
Push Square didn't even review Subside for crying out loud. Or Compound, Madison VR etc, and a plethora of other great PSVR2 games that aren't AAA. No point in coming here for VR news. The doom & gloom and constant lean torwards negativity is annoying. They're treating PSVR2, or VR as a whole as if it's some alienation on their childhood.
Sure, it's a failure in terms of AAA titles moving forward since there won't be any from Capcom(etc), and PSVR2's form factor(especially) and overall image clarity(Vs Quest 3) are showing their age, but there's some stellar looking indie titles on the way, like Wrath, Subside's DLC 'Makao Shelf', Little Nightmares VR: Echoes, just to name a few. But outside of Little Nightmares VR, they'll most likely get dismissed by this site.
@GeminiX53
It's bad enough that the DualSense's stick layout is Symetrical and i can't stand the D-pad. At least PSSR2 is a thing now for PS5 Pro, but i still can't justify getting one at this point since my PS5 is mainly used for PSVR2 which barely has any PS5 Pro Support. I mostly game on Switch(Docked), or NS2 soon. And now that Steam Frame is just around the corner, i won't need my PSVR2 anymore seeing as how it's overall clarity and Form factor will fumble vs Steam Frame.
@dskatter Ya, I never play NS1 in handheld, and won't with either NS2. Which makes the NS2's main feature gonzo, and makes straight forward PS5 ports that much less interesting.
Devs have to utlize HD Rumble 2 in unique ways, NS2's 9-Axis Gyro or Dual-HD Rumble 2-Gyro mouses to make the ports more unique and stand out, otherwise I'm just getting the better looking and performing version, and that's on PS5 with recent releases like RE Requiem, Pragmata, Reanimal etc.
@KidRisky
Loved Moss 1 back on PSVR1. Another one of those magical launch window titles I'll never forget. But Moss 2 on PSVR2 couldn't hold my attention for long. Even with 2x the resolution and 90fps it mostly just felt like just more of the same, almost like a direct extension or continuation of the original. I'd probably give M2 another shot for PCVR just gain the big clarity advantage over the PSVR2, which might be enough to lour me back in. ☺️
@Glotny
Not getting Resident Evil Requiem in VR from Capcom + Sony is the exclusive nail in the coffin moving forward for PSVR2. What a shame, but at least Praydog's incredible PCVR mod is available. I'm going to be experiencing it with the Steam frame on PCVR.
As amazing as RE Village for PSVR2 was, and even RE4R VR(to a lesser extent, but still great nonetheless) they weren't pulling in enough players. RE4R had just over 300,000 users, while the flat version had at least 10 million.
Sony's contract with Capcom has been over for a year, so there's no way Capcom is going to fund RE9's VR mode itself knowing they're just throwing money straight down the toilet, no matter how many people love and want VR for Resident Evil moving forward.
@Fartingale
YUP. As much as I love VR/MR, the doom & gloom centered around VR on this site is tiring. But they don't care, they want your clicks. PSVR2 moving forward will be 100% indie driven if you're fine with that.
Wrath Aeon of Ruin VR, Subside's DLC: Makao Shelf, Microsoft Flight Simulator and Little Nightmares VR Echoes are coming this month, with the exception of Subsides DLC. That alone gets me more excited than any future 'flat' PS5 game. lol
As of now, or what's just around the corner. I'm going to sell my PSVR2 after the Steam Frame comes out, use SF on a PC that has a bit more power than a PS5 Pro, then use Quest 3 for it's exclusive mixed reality content, Online shopping haha, Theatre Elsewhere(Users submit VR/3D Animation, Diorahmans and character animations) etc...But Q3 will be replaced by Meta's Pheonex Next year solely for MR related stuff, with it's 2.5k per eye resolution, micro-OLED display, it's under 110g light. Than we've got Quest 4 potentially happen. The future is looking bright for MR and VR. Once they cream the form factor and content problem, it's only uphill from there with Pheonex, Quest 4 and hopefully PSVR3 + PS6 if it happens.
Steam Frame will be great, but it's still 425g heavy, still a headset and nobodies pushing exclusives for it. It will be an excellent stand in/place holder before better VR glasses come out after that.
@Art_Vandelay
Love your enthusiasm for VR man. Even though Sony & Capcom won't be supporting any future PSVR2 exclusives, unless we magically get RE9: Requiem for PSVR2, which i doubt is going to happen, we've still got some awesome indies on the way.
Subside's DLC 'Makao Shelf' is coming this year which looks incredible, WRATH: Aeon of ruin VR(Quake-styled Boomer VR shooter), Little Nightmares VR: Echoes & MicroSoft Flight Simulator are all at the top of the list for me for this April. Subside's DLC is slated for 2026, but no solid release date in sight just yet.
I'm sticking with PSVR2(And Quest 3) until Steam Frame Arrives. It's going to be the best all rounder. It's like a Q3 Pro on steroids with it's 90% Stereo Overlap(Best 3D depth perception between all 3), Custom pancake lenses that produce a slightly sharper picture than Q3, 6ghz dongle for nearly unoticeable image compression and low latency, wireless, Eye Tracking + DFR/Streaming, smaller form factor, its 75g lighter than Q3 and supposedly it can reinforce stereoscopic 3D into flat PC games some time in the future.
The future of VR/MR is going be crazy, once Pheonex(2.5k per eye, Micro-OLED, under 110g light etc) paves the way next, followed up with Quest 4. VR headsets will officially be a thing of the past, and we'll now have thick glasses with a wrap around strap just under 110g light with tethered pocket pucks that house the compute power & battery.
I always get a chuckle out of these doom and gloom VR articles. Not to say there isn't any truth to what's been said. The PSVR2 most likely will not have any exclusives moving forward, it just isn't really profitable or worth the risk at this point going by Capcom's latest RE4 Remake VR user/player base stats which were just under 300,000 for the 10 million-something that played it flat, which is why RE9 VR isn't hapenning. PSVR2's form factor is awful which is the biggest barrier aside from being a 99% indie fest. Like Valve said, VR's biggest two barriers are form factor & content as of now.
I thought RE4R Flat was a boring compared to playing it in VR. RE Village however is PSVR2s magnus Opus. The VR cutscenes are still incredible to this day. They always take me back and pure awe, as I stumble to pick my jaw off the floor. Tried playing it flat and it was just awful by comparison. Couldn't bare it.
BTW. Praydog's PCVR Mod for RE9 Reqiuem is supposed to be amazing. I've seen 180d VR gameplay footage of it on Quest 3's YouTube VR app, with 8K(4K per eye) SuperSampling, it looked mind blowing. Not playing that one flat now. No chance. It needs a 4070(At least to run) on PC properly. Playing that with a Steam Frame on a PC is the route I'm taking!
I'll be throwing in the PSVR2 towel shortly after Steam Frame arrives. I'm sure sony will knock it out of the park if they ddecide to do a PSVR3 for PS6. PS6 is said to have 3x the power of a base PS5 + PSSR3, and lets face it VR needs ALL the power it can get. Combine that with future VR glasses that use the Pheonex or Quest 4 as a template and we're golden moving forward.
I rarely use my PS5 for flat games anymore, i find most of the modern big AAA titles beyond boring. It's basically transformed into my VR machine. With NS1/2 being used mostly for NewWave retro titles and Nintendo Exclusives.
@PuppetMaster
In terms of latency, presentation and screen/display options, M2 is always at the top, although they completely flubbed the CRT filter for both the Castlevania & Contra Anniversary Collections. Not only is CRT mode dim, but they don't allow you manually shrink down the screen to a more approriate size to accomodate those 8-16 bit sprites, vs Arcade Arcades.
Still, latency is on the low side which is always the case with M2! Castlevania 1(NES) in the Anniversary collection does feel slightly more responsive than the Arcade Archives 'Castlevania Vs' Arcade release too. Still, nothing beats popping in the original NES Cartridge on an NES with a CRT, or FPGA NES on a QD-OLED TV.
@Theamazing1
For sure. Mortal Kombat Legacy being the worst offender, clocking in at about 80ms of lag for PS5, and 70ms for NS2. Thankfully, the PC version only has 20-30 which is exactly the same as the first 3 arcade games which have been tested and confirmed to have an unstable 20-30ms of default latency. Play it on PC or the upcoming Steam Machine is the best way to fly.
Unfortunately for Rayman, Emulation latency and OLED latency is unavoidable. And the CRT filter won't be as good as an actual CRT, plus OLED motion blur will just degrade the experience, aside from not including the original OST. Still, a cool way to preserve RM1(PS1) legally that is. But the PS1 disc on real hardware on a CRT will trounce this version.
@PuppetMaster
it's wild that they actually released the PS5 version with over 100ms of lag(After the patch it's now down to 80 i think but that's still terrible), while the NS2 version is in the 70-range. again, terrible.
Thankfully the Steam version has 20ms just like the original Arcade Trilogy did back in the arcades. They should hire M2 do most of these retro compilations.
@4fold
Ya, it sucks that both Quest 3 & PSVR2 games need to run in 90fps to bypass that ghosting/motion duplication effect. I hear the Steam Frame can do 72fps without repro because the panel itself has no native refresh rate or something.
As is, playing Microsoft Flight Simulator with a Crystal Super micro-OLED(4K per eye, Micro-OLED etc) on a 5090 is as good as it gets, with Base stations & Index controllers. $11,000(CAD) later haha.
I'd rather play Flight Simulator with the Steam Frame on a 4090, than with a PSVR2 + PS5 Pro. PSVR2 is taking forever getting these VR ports, when they've already been available on PC for months to years, or Quest 3 depending.
PSVR2's fresnel lens clarity sucks, including the mura, awful form factor, onion ring controllers, it's lower ppd combined with it's PenTile based OLED result in a less detailed softer image(Combined with the fresnel lenses which can't compete against Pancake).
Great blacks, Vibrant Colours, Eye Tracking + DFR, controller haptics & adaptive triggers, including it's 85% Stereo overlap are great and all, but PSVR2's blemishes are sticking out even more as better headsets continuet to come out. Still keeping mine for now, just RE9 VR mode, if it happens! If not, PSVR2 is going in the tub. I'll keep it for now just to compare the same games running on a Steam Frame with a PC that's like a PS5 Pro Adjescent, but i'll just sell it off sooner than later.
RE8 VR already has a PCVR mod, which supposedly is an overall much better experience with better headsets. RE4 VR Mode was great too, at least with the village section, but i don't care to revist that one in particular anyways.
@PloverNutter
There isn't a single game on Quest 3 that can come remotely close to the experience i had with RE Village on PSVR2. I've had both headsets since launch btw.
In the end, both the PSVR2 & Quest 3 have their draw backs. PSVR2 faulters with it's fresnel lens clarity, tiny sweet spot, terrible bulky form factor, Mura, it uses a PenTile arranged OLED display which has a lower sub pixel count than Quest 3's RGB LCD, it's not a comfortable headset(Flimsy useless thin rubber that doesn't act as a padded interface at all), the controllers have Rings, and the cable is really annoying for stand-up VR titles.
But then, Quest 3 is dissapointing becuase it has poor black levels/contrast, duller colours, a weak 70% Stereo Overlap(Meaning, how good it's stereoscopic 3D depth perception is, just that convincing three dimensionality effect which is the entire point of VR). PSVR2's is higher at 85% and combined with it's OLED blacks the 3D effect is just more convincing and has stronger impact. Plus, Q3 has no eye tracking to help out with it's weak stand alone power, and it has noticeable image compression and latency for PCVR. BTW, Stereo overlap maxes out at 95%, as it does with Pimax's Curent Crystal Super Micro-OLED using the right distortion profile, along with their upcoming Dream Air & Dream Air SE.
Love being tethered free though, Q3's pancake lenses are fantastic, it has higher ppd, no Mura, RGB display, Ring-less Controllers, it's smaller & lighter, and much more comfortable. it's exclusive to MR Games, Theatre Elsewhere, VR Enhanced Cinema, it's even great for shopping online.
Overall, both headsets have their streangths and weakness, and both are worth owning. I'm getting the Steam Frame day one since it seems to bring fourth the best of both worlds, with the only real caveat being that it's not using Micro-OLED and instead, LCD.
If the Steam Frame had Micro-OLED and there was a Steam machine Pro that had more power than a PS5 it would be game over for PSVR2 moving forward, IF Resident Evil Requiem VR doesn't get a PSVR2 mode. If RE9 VR doesn't happen, than it's a VR-wrap for me moving forward. i plan on replacing it with a Steam Frame and a PC that's a bit more powerful than a PS5 Pro. The LCD blacks are going to suck, but it does nearly everything better than PSVR2, and especially Q3.

Re: 'Millions of Gamers Value True Ownership': PS5, PS4 Represented Half of All UK Physical Game Revenue in 2025
@Mr-Cage
I just feel bad for the kids who are going to wind up getting PlayStation 6 & maybe Switch 2 point cards in their Christmas Stockings or B-day presents. where's the fun in that!? lol
Re: Platforming Classic Rayman Origins Looks Fab in 4K on PS5
@SMJ

@CheesyOatcake
Re: 'Sony Knows a $1,000 PS6 Won't Sell as Much': Analyst on Manufacturer's Plan to Maximise Revenue
@NerdyPaul
Re: 'PS5 Has Put a Dampener on Gaming': 45% of Enthusiasts 'Seriously Considering' Leaving Sony for PC
@Chaotic_Goat
Re: 'PS5 Has Put a Dampener on Gaming': 45% of Enthusiasts 'Seriously Considering' Leaving Sony for PC
@Chaotic_Goat
lol Even if the PS6 winds up having 2-3x the power of a base PS5, along with PSSR3 and other future AI tech, it's still probably going to cost less than half the price of a similar powered PC.
It was transformative coming from SNES & Genesis, and even managed to knock my socks off even coming from Saturn which i owned since launch in 95'
Give me 3D Glasses that can transform any PS6 flatscreen title with stereoscopic 3D visuals, PSVR3, or PlayStation Smell-O-Vision. lol
Re: 'PS5 Has Put a Dampener on Gaming': 45% of Enthusiasts 'Seriously Considering' Leaving Sony for PC
@nomither6
Re: PS5 Fans Panic Over 'Lost Games' Clause, But There's More to the Story
@BrokenByTheScream
If 90% of my digital PS5 library were permantly deleted tomorrow i wouldn't give a rats a**.
Re: PlayStation Consoles to Stop Getting Disc-Based Physical Releases in 2028
@Lukeded
Re: PlayStation Consoles to Stop Getting Disc-Based Physical Releases in 2028
@TooOldForGamesNow
Re: PlayStation Consoles to Stop Getting Disc-Based Physical Releases in 2028
PS5 physical media, including PS4 and PS3 before it, look as cheap, lazy, uncreative, unnatractive and throwaway as it gets, slathered in legal text agreement. There's zero appeal imo, other than resale value. I've been 99% digital since PS4 Pro & NS1. No regrets.
I'm way more interested in physical game media from the 80s & 90s, but even then thats starting wane.
Re: State of Play Confirmed for 2nd June, 60+ Minutes of Wolverine and PS5 Games
@CaptD
Re: SEGA Revives Crazy Taxi Social Media Ahead of New PS5 Game Reveal
@carlos82
lol Off Spring.
Re: State of Play Confirmed for 2nd June, 60+ Minutes of Wolverine and PS5 Games
@CaptD
Re: State of Play Confirmed for 2nd June, 60+ Minutes of Wolverine and PS5 Games
Re: Poll: Sony's Killing Its PS5 PC Ports - But Do You Agree with Its Decision?
I wish they'd port over AstroBot(PS5) to PC so the PC Modders would VR-ify it. Regardless, PS's idenitity & character will dwindle completely without any exclusives under it's belt.
I personally don't care about 95% of the exclusives, I only use my PS5 for the occasional PSVR2 game these days. Subside's Makao Shelf, Secret of the mimick and hopefully Resident Evil 9 VR with a June State of Play Announcement are the big 3 I'm the most excited to play next.
Re: You Don't Need a Neo Geo AES+, These Games Are Already on PS5
@Oppyz666
Re: PS5 Pro Just Made Pragmata Even Better in New Patch
@Ichiban
Re: You Don't Need a Neo Geo AES+, These Games Are Already on PS5
@Luigia
Re: PS5 Pro Just Made Pragmata Even Better in New Patch
Re: As PSVR2 Dies a Slow Death, One of Its Best Devs Confirms Mass Layoffs
@Discol76
Re: PS5 Prices Jump Tomorrow, This Is Your Last Chance to Get a Deal Before the Increase
@GeminiX53
Re: PS5 Price Increases Start, Live Now at Some Retailers
@dskatter Ya, I never play NS1 in handheld, and won't with either NS2. Which makes the NS2's main feature gonzo, and makes straight forward PS5 ports that much less interesting.
Devs have to utlize HD Rumble 2 in unique ways, NS2's 9-Axis Gyro or Dual-HD Rumble 2-Gyro mouses to make the ports more unique and stand out, otherwise I'm just getting the better looking and performing version, and that's on PS5 with recent releases like RE Requiem, Pragmata, Reanimal etc.
Re: As PSVR2 Dies a Slow Death, One of Its Best Devs Confirms Mass Layoffs
@KidRisky
Re: As PSVR2 Dies a Slow Death, One of Its Best Devs Confirms Mass Layoffs
@Glotny
Re: As PSVR2 Dies a Slow Death, One of Its Best Devs Confirms Mass Layoffs
@Fartingale
Re: As PSVR2 Dies a Slow Death, One of Its Best Devs Confirms Mass Layoffs
@Art_Vandelay

But the PS1 disc on real hardware on a CRT will trounce this version.

it's wild that they actually released the PS5 version with over 100ms of lag(After the patch it's now down to 80 i think but that's still terrible), while the NS2 version is in the 70-range. again, terrible.
Thankfully the Steam version has 20ms just like the original Arcade Trilogy did back in the arcades. They should hire M2 do most of these retro compilations.
Re: 'It's Fun and Looks Amazing': PSVR2's Next Must-Have May Be Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
@4fold
Re: Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow (PSVR2) - A Disappointingly Thin Dishonored-Lite
@PloverNutter
