Re: Insomniac on Spider-Man PS4 DLC: Are People Ever Satisfied with How Much You Give Them?

SavoirFaire

As to the article line, when there is a nice open world built, I don’t understand why they don’t fill it with more story DLC. Breath of the Wild being a top contender for a game that i would have loved to keep playing. I’m always worried if we’ll get another FC5 DLC instead of Witcher 3, though I’ll guess this will lean more towards the latter.

After just getting my platinum yesterday ill dive back in once all DLC is done. If I get to punch Silver Sable just once, it’ll be worth the price tag.

Re: Talking Point: How Much Does Cross-Play Matter to You?

SavoirFaire

I'm really baffled at not allowing crossplay, perhaps I don't get where the monetization angle for this comes from, since let's all admit, it's $$$ anyone cares about. Let's look at something like Overwatch. My friend and I have ps4/xbone respectively, what aspect of he and I playing together costs either company money, or one company more money than the other?

However, let's look at the bigger issue. I'm 100x more annoyed that my airpods wont work with my PS4!

Re: Poll: What Are Your Thoughts on the PlayStation Plus Price Increase?

SavoirFaire

Whew I thought this was US and was going to throw a fit that we were getting a hike again.

Fit being because I've seen 0 improvement since the US rate hike, so if any of you think it will get better, or didn't notice a grand change when the US hike occurred, don't expect it to happen now!

It all goes to how much you value/play the free games. For me it is low but I do use the online service from time to time so there is value, but for the current cost? That's a tough call. I'll definitely reevaluate when my year is up in November.

Re: Site News: Welcome to the New Push Square

SavoirFaire

to quote Captain Kirk (or George Costanza) Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!

I eventually adapted to Nintendo Life's transition so will see how this one goes. I just hope it looks ok on mobile, as that is where I do a lot of my site-checking.

Re: Feature: How PS4 Can Fend Off the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Scorpio in 2017

SavoirFaire

What I always appreciate about this site is there are very few rabid fanboys posting, and this thread is a great example, because most everyone gets it.

MS and Nintendo are going to be niche threats at best, and Nintendo at least isn't even trying to compete on the home console market, they are just trying to solidify another 5-10 years of handheld dominance. I really enjoy my PS4, and I'll pick up the Switch, and the only thing I'll be lacking is time to play all the great games the 2 systems have.

Re: Er, Avatars Are Coming to the PS4's PlayStation Store Next Week

SavoirFaire

I'm cool with my chicken avatar. However, I always considered avatars more 3-D character types, and not a picture. I actually just call a picture an icon, i.e. my icon is King Boo! To me a Mii or whatever xbox call their characters are more inline with what i think of as avatars, but that is just splitting hairs.

Re: Soapbox: Why the Industry Is Getting Greedy (And How to Stop It)

SavoirFaire

The industry as a whole is greedy, nothing anyone will do can stop that. Most devs will try to squeeze every last penny out of their customers, and the only way we can thank those that don't (CD Projekt Red is my first one in mind as well) we can only encourage by supporting them if we like their product.

The problem is that microtransactions and DLC come in way too many flavors and styles to paint with broad strokes. Nintendo has finally dipped their toes into DLC and in some ways it has huge value/$$ (MK8) and in others, it is maddeningly in the complete other direction (Splatoon). Any DLC that adds to a game I like in substantial ways is something I am all for. I just avoid DLC that has a smattering of content that is all over the map (aka Arkham Knight Season Pass).

My only problem with microtransactions is when they go beyond cosmetic and help you in a way that can't be gained with time put into a game. Shark cash in GTA V? Silly waste of money to me, i'd rather earn it, but I can understand people with free cash and limited time taking the plunge. I think this is a generational thing, with a set of gamers introducted via FB games and the like where microtransactions rule. I had a pong system, so I'm an old fart who thinks most microtransactions are either silly or game breaking, and I tend to not play the games with game breaking microtransactions. Can we call them MTAs? Let's acronym it for us lazy typers

I also dont mind fighting game character roster DLC, as I understand how much time can go into new characters and how these games come and go so dev's need to hold interest.

I've come to accept, however, that costumes as paid DLC is here to stay, and not a thing i can do about it. Well, except not buy it stand alone, tho if it comes with other things I like, I'll usually take the plunge.

Re: Review: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (PS4)

SavoirFaire

Between this and Super Mario Maker I've been having a busy weekend. I haven't played a Metal Gear game since.... the NES version, and I have been really impressed with this game. However, I know zip about the previous stories, so am just taking this all in stride right now.

Re: Review: Batman: Arkham Knight (PS4)

SavoirFaire

@Boerewors I was actually talking about this same thing the other day, though I was hoping to see them tackle Wonder Woman. Perhaps it was all done in God of War (never played the series...) but Wonder Woman's background living in the world of greek mythology, not to mention her rogue's gallery, could lend itself to a really fun game. Instead of the city like the Batman games, it would be the wild like a far cry game I hear you tho, Superman could use a good game!

Re: Review: Batman: Arkham Knight (PS4)

SavoirFaire

It's good, and it's fun. I won't deny that.

I do feel that the batmobile is something they put in the game for fun initially, and it got away from them. I enjoy it, but I compare it to Link using Epona for 1/3 of the next Zelda game, and having to have Epona to do quests, side quests, collectables, fight monsters, etc. It would get tiresome over time.

Overall my personal view is this is likely going to be an 8/10 to me, doubtful it would reach up to 9 or drop to 7, tho I am about 25% in or so.

Re: E3 2015: Almost Half PS4 Owners Never Had a PS3

SavoirFaire

PS4 is my first Sony console. Have a Wii U and a pretty respectable PC (mostly for blizzard games), and had a Wii at the tail end of it's lifespan. before that my last console was a NES so i have a lot of catching up to do.

Picked Sony over MS because a friend has a 360/xbone and no real reason to duplicate that. I'm happy with purchase so far, but I mainly picked it up to play multiplats that dont come to the Wii U, more for the new Batman game than anything. This is due to my aversion to PC ports, which I have been told arent as bad as they used to be.

I can take or leave the backwardsness for PS4 simply because I dont have the time to keep up with my backlog as it is. With all the remasters I am able to grab good games I missed, though not all.

Re: Evidence of Batman: Arkham PS4 Remaster Appears

SavoirFaire

I would pick up asylum as I have never played it. City though I have already and one is enough for me.

I don't see this as much of a cash grab as others. If publishers want to re-release their best games of the last gen on the current gen, I am all for it. Plan on picking a few games I never tried last gen (only had a Wii) when buy 2 get 1 free rolls around next Black Friday 😎

Re: Rumour: The Next Assassin's Creed on PS4 Will Sport a Brother and Sister Protagonist Combo

SavoirFaire

@Gamer83 It's a shame you have to put all those qualifiers in when discussing a female character, but i guess that is the way of the world currently. As someone that enjoyed Bayonetta 1/2 immensly, I have 0 problem with female lead titles if it works in the game. I just hope this isnt silly shoehorning to please vocal minorities, but stranger things have happened.

I skipped Unity because of all the bad press. I thoroughly enjoyed AC4, but I think more because of the pirate theme w/the sea combat, and less because of the "true" AC-side of the game (AC4 was my first AC game). Is all there is to AC parkour + umm stabbing/stealth? Not trying to insult the franchise, just seems like that would wear thin after a bit (tho i think the worst part of AC4 was the "real world" stuff).

edit: whoops, apparently black flag was AC4!

Re: PS4's Batman: Arkham Knight Will Take You to Some 'Dark Places'

SavoirFaire

Ummm yeah. This is Batman and a huge release. It will get toned down and not get an "M" rating for release. Some suit at some level will force this to be "censored", no game of this high profile, that does have a market at the <17 level, is going to lose customers because of a scene or two. I'll gladly /eatcrow during the review on this site when it releases, but I don't think I will have to.
