Re: Poll: 5 Years Later, How Do You Feel About Final Fantasy 7 Remake?

Rob_230

Loved remake and initially had no issue with the trilogy aspect. The first game was pretty tight too. Unfortunately I thought rebirth had too much open world padding between story sections which was to the detriment of the narrative - to the point I almost would have preferred the game to be told over 2 games max

Re: Nintendo Is Displaying Hubris Which Would Make Even PS3 Era Sony Blush

Rob_230

I'm not sure why exec's make comments like this based on well known history in the industry.

That being said I also don't understand the backlash around the Switch 2 hardware price. It seems about bang on what I expected it to release at for a more powerful console.

There are a number of issues that do need to be addressed such as the software seeing one heck of a mark-up compared to the current gen, and suggestions of limited battery life, not addressing the joystick issue, the game card business etc.

But the cost of the console in the box probably shouldn't be the direction of people's ire.

Re: PS6 Can't Rely on Cutting-Edge Graphics, Sony Must 'Change Its Way of Thinking'

Rob_230

He is correct. Game bloat has to stop too. Shawn Layden was correct. We should be seeing way more titles the length of Astro Bot, or the likes of the lost legacy, Miles morales etc. Which are sold at a lower price, but released more often. There is still a place for massive game worlds, but these should be limited because dev time and costs have spiralled to the point it no longer seems sustainable.

Smaller games with reduced budget will freshen up the gaming industry again because it will allow devs to take more risks rather than this constant sword of damacles should a title not meet sales expectations. All the current situation will achieve is drive talent out of the industry and will put younger generations off from taking that career path in the future

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch 2 Direct - 5 Things for PS5 Fans to Pay Attention To

Rob_230

I hope it lights a fire under Sony tbh. You can just feel the hype around this nintendo event which hasn't really been felt during the PS5 generation.

As for what I hope to see, Final Fantasy 9 is the obvious one (although given it was a PS1 title, I really would have liked to see Sony have it at one of its own shows), and the rumoured Persona 4 remake (same story as FF9).

I think nintendo are going to come out of today's direct very well.

Re: The Last of Us Boss Answers Its Most Profound Question: Was Joel Right?

Rob_230

No guarantee that it would have worked. And even if it had, what's to say the cure would have been used for the greater good. Most likely would have been sold to the highest bidder or used to blackmail people rather than used for its intended purpose. World of the Last of Us teaches you that you can trust almost no-one.

I'm team Joel on this one

Re: Dev Irate About 'Illegal' Use of Its Property As AI Rip Off of Xbox Game Appears on PS Store

Rob_230

This stuff is bizarre and I still dont know how it manages to get past the relevant platform holder checks.

Yesterday I watched a video for a new VR game called assassins dig. I swear on the Playstation official YouTube site. It had the AC logo and so I thought it was a random tie in. Clearly it wasn't and the video has since been removed (but can be seen elsewhere: https://youtu.be/E0vquC6LO9w?si=L-IFOmbNqtd3vuZs)

Like how does this stuff get through?

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Assassin's Creed Shadows?

Rob_230

Had a voucher from work so treated myself. Arrived today and installed but I just started lego horizon so want to get that done first.

I adored valhalla, and just played through mirage and still get a lot of enjoyment from creed. I also love japanese settings and this will tide me over until ghost of yotei

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Cinematic Trailer Sets Scene for Sengoku Action

Rob_230

I really want this game to be good. It looks very promising, but I am playing mirage at the moment and there are still so many rough edges that ubisoft need to give attention to. Really intrigued as to how it will turn out. I always enjoy creed so I am sure it will be fun to play, and the Japanese setting will be a fantastic playground

Re: Another PS5 Live Service Title Does a Concord, Game and Dev to Close Two Weeks After PS5 Launch

Rob_230

Never heard of the game or the studio im afraid. Which i guess lends itself to partially explaining why this failed to find an audience.

Fact is, unless a live service game does something really unique, there is no incentive for people to leave the community and spend they have already made on more established GaaS like a FFXIV, Fortnite etc. Literally zero point putting out live service titles that do what the established market leaders are already doing.

You have to imagine game devs are starting to wake up to this but until then this cycle is destined to continue

Re: Death Stranding 2 PS5 Release Date Set for 26th June

Rob_230

Well I wanted something to truly show me what PS5 and my newish TV can do, so maybe this is that title. Visually it's mind blowing. Looks mad as a box of frogs, but at least as a visual showcase it looks pretty special. I'm still not entirely clear what I would be doing which put me off the first game, but I think I will try this

Re: Horizon Online Snaffles Bungie's Design Lead As Guerrilla Builds All-Star Team Around Live Service PS5 Game

Rob_230

I genuinely think this game could be good. When I played HFW I remember some cut away dialogue in one of the villages talking about the clan wars. With multiple clans building up their respective village and fighting other clans over resources etc, with emergent gameplay during battle with unpredictable involvement of machines (e.g. a thunderjaw or tremortusk randomly stumbling across the fight and causing chaos requiring you to make choices over whether to run, take advantage of the distraction to take out other players etc), and most likely the ability to capture and harness powerful machines to support you in battle - I think it has alot of potential to be really good.

Also no doubt a big component of the game will be to team up with other players to take out machines to gather valuable resources to upgrade weapons, armour, gain special abilities etc. It all seems quite logical for a live service game. And I can see how special machines with unique resources and characteristics will be dropped into the game to keep things interesting

Personal preference would be to keep all the space mumbo jumbo out of it though. I MUCH prefer the more grounded stories the original games were telling

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Sony's State of Play for February 2025?

Rob_230

Nothing to get me hyped for the future of Playstation tbh. As I said in the chat, I dont think these shows are for me any more and I might skip the next one. Sony has trained me this generation to have low expectations going into State of Play and only once or twice have they exceeded them over the last couple of years. I'm very pleased for those that enjoyed the show though.

I think I am just moving past this type of delivery. On balance, this wasn't a bad show and there were a few interesting games in there. But so many looked generic or are not doing anything new. To the point I can't remember the names of half of what was shown. At least Shinobi and the midnight walk did something to differentiate themselves with the art style

I'll probably upgrade days gone because although I have the game on PS4 i never got around to playing it. And I'll be getting MGS Delta and Onimusha.

Good to learn about the Yakuza demo and the Dave the Diver dlc, and I did think Sonic racing looked fun. Also the supermassive game looks like they might have cracked the formula they have been so close to achieving with their last few releases.

Interested in the Housemarque game, but no gameplay to show - they said that is coming later in the year so hopefully Sony shows up with a showcase to show off some more heavy hitters.

Mindseye is one is really will be keeping an eye on. I'm fascinated to see how this creative shake out from Rockstar turns out over the next few years - including any impact the departures have had on GTA 6

Hopefully Square Enix turn up at that Nintendo direct in April with Final Fantasy IX remake as the wait for that announcement is getting long

Re: State of Play Confirmed for Wednesday, 40+ Minutes of PS5 News and Updates

Rob_230

Would love to see something Resident Evil and the Final Fantasy 9 remake. Would love news of an FF13 remaster too. Beyond that, I am expecting some more Astrobot content, but everything else will be a surprise. If Microsoft is there I imagine they will date Forza and Indy more than make new announcements. And it sounds like MGS will be there. Hopefully plenty of games shown rather than a couple of 10 minute trailers like we had with that boring Dragon Age boss fight last time

Re: Sony Cancels Bluepoint, Bend Studio PS5 Games, One Being a Live-Service God of War Title

Rob_230

What was Sony thinking. This is an absolutely shambolic waste of resources. A live service God of War? madness.

Bend could have been readying for release of days gone 2 or uncharted 5 (as i believe was once rumoured) at this point in the console cycle.

What an absolute let down and failure of leadership and understanding from Sony. This PS5 generation will not be remembered fondly at all.
