Re: Poll: How Would You Rate State of Play for June 2025?

Rob_230

Had low expectations and this exceeded them in nearly every way this evening. A fewtitles I would have culled (I dont need to see any more of Baby steps, thanks!) but overall a very solid show.

Lumines is back. That started stuff off 100% on a positive footing. Then getting to see titles like Bond, the new Marvel fighter, Final Fantasy Tactics (not IX, but i think an announcement is coming in July), Silent Hill, Sword of the Sea and the long awaited return of pragmata presented a lot to enjoy here!

I'll look forward to the Ghost of Yotei SOP in July too!

Re: Rumours of a Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 Version Swirl Again

Rob_230

Wouldn't be surprised if Rockstar also wanted to get their feet wet on Switch 2 to see what it's capable of before making a decision on porting GTA 6 to the system. Wouldn't be surprised at all if it's true. I actually picked up RDR 1 again on the switch because it felt like a novel way to replay it. What a game

Re: Just 4% of PS5, PS4 Fans Think PS Plus Premium Represents Good Value for Money

Rob_230

I am only subscribed to essential and have no incentive to increase to a higher tier as my backlog is embarrassing enough to the point I know i wouldn't get the most out of the digital catalogue.

Extra does seen to be the sweet spot for those that can benefit from the catalogue - i don't think Sony has yet done enough to justify the premium tier and think it would benefit from a rethink going forward.

Re: Tony Hawk Comments on Potential Tony Hawk's Underground Remake

Rob_230

I kind of fell off THPS after the 4th game as it entered the jackass era so I could take or leave a remake of underground tbh.

Personal preference would be to take the pure style of the first 4 games and make a new one next tbh, but I do appreciate THUG is held dearly in the hearts of many

Re: Physical Game Sales See Dramatic Drop-Off in UK as Console Market Struggles

Rob_230

Still physical wherever possible here. In fact my copy of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza arrived on my doorstep today and i recently bought AC Shadows, Clair Obscura, and Silent Hill 2 physically over the past month.

The trend does worry me, but £7.63 billion remains a figure that Sony and third party publishers wont want to ignore in the UK - not everyone will want to transition to digital. And GTA6 is likely to pull a lot of casual gamers into this system and will likely sell very well physically.

I guess a big factor here is that Xbox has effectively gone digital only (can't remember the last Series X game i saw on the shelves) so the physical market has shrunk significantly since last gen

I suppose my one concern is if the new playstation handheld is only compatible with digital purchases made on PS5. I can see myself wanting to pick one up, but if it means I have to double dip on games, then that might start to push me to buy more digital titles. But I have no plans to do so until I have no option to do otherwise

Re: Poll: 5 Years Later, How Do You Feel About Final Fantasy 7 Remake?

Rob_230

Loved remake and initially had no issue with the trilogy aspect. The first game was pretty tight too. Unfortunately I thought rebirth had too much open world padding between story sections which was to the detriment of the narrative - to the point I almost would have preferred the game to be told over 2 games max

Re: Nintendo Is Displaying Hubris Which Would Make Even PS3 Era Sony Blush

Rob_230

I'm not sure why exec's make comments like this based on well known history in the industry.

That being said I also don't understand the backlash around the Switch 2 hardware price. It seems about bang on what I expected it to release at for a more powerful console.

There are a number of issues that do need to be addressed such as the software seeing one heck of a mark-up compared to the current gen, and suggestions of limited battery life, not addressing the joystick issue, the game card business etc.

But the cost of the console in the box probably shouldn't be the direction of people's ire.

Re: PS6 Can't Rely on Cutting-Edge Graphics, Sony Must 'Change Its Way of Thinking'

Rob_230

He is correct. Game bloat has to stop too. Shawn Layden was correct. We should be seeing way more titles the length of Astro Bot, or the likes of the lost legacy, Miles morales etc. Which are sold at a lower price, but released more often. There is still a place for massive game worlds, but these should be limited because dev time and costs have spiralled to the point it no longer seems sustainable.

Smaller games with reduced budget will freshen up the gaming industry again because it will allow devs to take more risks rather than this constant sword of damacles should a title not meet sales expectations. All the current situation will achieve is drive talent out of the industry and will put younger generations off from taking that career path in the future

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch 2 Direct - 5 Things for PS5 Fans to Pay Attention To

Rob_230

I hope it lights a fire under Sony tbh. You can just feel the hype around this nintendo event which hasn't really been felt during the PS5 generation.

As for what I hope to see, Final Fantasy 9 is the obvious one (although given it was a PS1 title, I really would have liked to see Sony have it at one of its own shows), and the rumoured Persona 4 remake (same story as FF9).

I think nintendo are going to come out of today's direct very well.

Re: The Last of Us Boss Answers Its Most Profound Question: Was Joel Right?

Rob_230

No guarantee that it would have worked. And even if it had, what's to say the cure would have been used for the greater good. Most likely would have been sold to the highest bidder or used to blackmail people rather than used for its intended purpose. World of the Last of Us teaches you that you can trust almost no-one.

I'm team Joel on this one
