Re: Intergalactic PS5 Is Naughty Dog's Wildest, Most Creative Story Yet

Rob_230

@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare And I respect you for taking the time to respond critically and respectfully. I don't disagree with your points. I am VERY concerned about Grand Theft Auto 6 (for example) if I am being honest because it is not the same Rockstar games that existed over 10 years ago.

I have high expectations for Naughty Dog. I don't really care about the noise from everywhere else, I personally loved the Last of Us 2. I thought it was a fantastic game. And I was also disappointed by Uncharted 4 which I thought was bloated and lost some of the magic (lost legacy clears by some distance imo).

But this is a Naughty Dog game and it's fair for my expectations to be high. They have set the bar, and now it's for them to equal or clear it. Just because I am excited, does not mean I won't assess the game on its merits as we learn more about it's development.

I will close by saying dont think i blindly salivate over everything Sony develop. I have been fairly consistent and vocal in my criticisms of Playstation this generation.

Re: Okami Sequel Announced by Capcom

Rob_230

Oh my word. Absolute dream stuff. I never thought I'd see a new Okami game. This could be something very special indeed.

Okami 1 is in my top 10 games of all time ever since I bought it on PS2, and I think I have bought every remaster released since. Very special place in my heart this one

Re: PlayStation Thanks the Fans with Emotional 30th Anniversary Montage

Rob_230

I was slightly late to the party (I got mine aged 7 in 1998) but I remember going to a friend's and playing his brand new N64 with Mario 64, coming home and pleading my parents for one. My parents - who showed zero interest in gaming however - had read about this system that was apparently the future in the newspaper and decided I was having that for Christmas instead.

Off I went to Electronics Boutique (at the time - Now GAME) and picked up a PS1 with gran turismo, tomb raider 2, fifa 99, and wipeout 2097 (and my older brother got resident evil 2). My mind was absolutely blown and I've loved Playstation ever since.

Absolutely terrifying that it's been 30 years since it launched in Japan but a sign of how significant and influential Sony's initial foray into gaming was. What a console that little grey box turned out to be.

Re: PlayStation Exec Shuhei Yoshida Will Leave the Company in January

Rob_230

@Anthony_Daniels Because he is a link to what has become an otherwise faceless corporation. Shuhei interacts with the community - Heck, im a nobody and have had interactions with him on twitter. The importance of having a representative who clearly loves the business and connects with the fans is too easily understated

People like him. And developers like him. He may not have a hugely impact full role these days in terms of operating Sony's business, but he has still contributed to picking up unique titles for the Playstation platform over the past few years.

As I say earlier however. Wish him nothing but the best and hope he enjoys whatever comes next. Legend

Re: Feature: Why Would Sony Want to Buy Kadokawa?

Rob_230

Makes more sense than some of Sony's recent acquisitions in terms of fitting the mold of what they look for.

If they are bringing From Software in house, i do wonder if they would prefer to make them a full first party studio (even if they still release games on other platforms) given the mess with Bungie. But I guess each situation needs considering on its own merits

My question is if Sony will be allowed to purchase Kadokawa given the existing grip they have on the anime sector.

For what its worth I have thought for some time Sony is missing a left-field Japanese dev like spike chunsoft.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 553

Rob_230

@Kraven i hear you. I was struggling to get the hype with Metaphor when i started. I felt so overwhelmed with the time management in a way i didnt with Persona 4 and 5 - which are two of my favourite games - for some reason.

I recommend sticking with it. After I finished the first dungeon something suddenly clicked with me. I went out to the desert outside grand trad and grinded for a while and found that actually I was levelling up archetypes surprisingly quickly which helped me relax more that I wasn't investing in the wrong classes (given the mag cost for switching is free after your initial switch for each character). Getting the bond level up a level with More to allow you to swap archetypes from the menu was a big help.

Then I unlocked the merchant class by completing a side quest in grand trad and have started absolutely drowning in cash meaning I can buy more equipment so I don't need to worry about being underpowered when I switch archetypes.

I'm starting to feel the Persona vibes now, so do stick with it 🙂

Re: Preview: LEGO Horizon Adventures Is Looking Like the Best LEGO Game Yet

Rob_230

I'm looking forward to this. I'm hoping the game shows abit more restraint compared to recent games where they have tried to over complicate things a little too much. For instance trying to find a particular character to play as is a nightmare when there is simply such a large cast to pick from in the star wars and Marvel series.

Looking forward to the inevitable levels where you get to play as the machines

Re: Spider-Man 2 Won't Receive Any PS5 Story DLC

Rob_230

Personally i fully enjoyed my time with Spiderman 2 🤷‍♂️

I wonder if we will start to see more studios back off from post launch dlc. With the time it takes to make new titles these days, it's probably worth putting any ideas into a sequel instead.

Personally would like to see Insomniac work on something new next rather than just becoming a Marvel factory - as much as I think wolverine will be a good game

Re: Expedition 33 Dev Confirms $50 Price Is Correct, '30+ Hours of Main Game'

Rob_230

The risk of people making a big deal about this is that it shows gamers are now conditioned to a $70 price point and will encourage more devs to just slap that price tag on games even if they could have launched at a lower price point.

Big props to Sandfall for releasing this at a competitive price into what will be a busy market next spring

Re: Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Dodges Monster Hunter Wilds with New PS5, PS4 Release Date

Rob_230

@BookhouseBoy these games are just so long right? Rebirth took me something like 80 plus hours. I am up to 94 hours on like a dragon infinite wealth (on the final chapter now). With kids and limited gaming time it just takes so long to get through these games. I think I have only been able to properly play like 4 or 5 games this year, despite a massive backlog of untouched titles to get to.

I do think the gaming industry needs to look at it's demographics again. Data shows that console gamers are largely made up of people that grew up with consoles (with younger gamers more likely to play mobile titles).

But with this demographic now having to balance gaming time between work and families there is less time to game. And with games taking longer and longer to complete, it means that I am less likely to buy new games. This results in a vicious cycle as then publishers find games are not meeting sales expectations.

That's why Astrobot was so refreshing. I was all done, with the platinum trophy in hand after what? 20 hours ish? More of this please!

Re: Interview: Falcom President Talks All Things Trails, Daybreak 2, and Kai in Our Biggest Interview Ever

Rob_230

Amazing interview and i love how much detail you were able to go into.

Love the Trails / Falcom games but i simply can't keep up anymore sadly - particularly given the length these games are.

Its great that the release times are getting closer and closer together with the Japanese release dates but I honestly have no idea how to get through them all

Maybe when the series is fully complete 😅

Re: Opinion: The Price of Playing PS5 Games Day One Is Getting Higher and Higher

Rob_230

I'm mixed on this. Ultimately people are free to spend their money how they choose, and in some circumstances i can understand the appeal.

On the other, it frustrates me that people buy into stuff like this because it perpetuates a cycle where more and more publishers think it's OK to follow this model. It's the same with places like Disney world. They keep introducing new ways to part people from their cash, and so long as people keep paying, these companies will keep finding new opportunities to monetise.

The Life is Strange situation is ridiculous and highly inappropriate for a story driven game imo. It just means more opportunities for crucial plot points to be spoiled online before most people have chance to play it for themselves. People shouldn't be forced to pay more if they want to avoid spoilers.

On the otherhand, I don't really have a problem with early access (or ya know....beta tests as they used to be known...) for online multiplayer titles to stress test servers ahead of launch. I have no doubt the likes of GTA online will follow this model next year either.

But for single player games or campaign elements of titles, I dont like this shift. Particularly as the last few years have shown that devs and publishers can't be trusted to release bug free games at launch. The star wars outlaws situation was particularly outrageous, but it's not the only example. More often than not it feels like those paying for early access are acting as beta testers and that feels egregious when arguably these consumers are the most loyal customers

Re: UK Sales Charts: Silent Hill 2, Dragon Ball's Physical Copies Topple Metaphor in Massive Week

Rob_230

@MatthewJP would also argue that considerably more games are released digitally these days with no physical copy available so it scews the figures.

I'd be more interested in the break down on a title by title basis, as that will provide the full picture on how the market is moving (e.g how many copies of EA FC 25 were physical vs digital etc).

Overall though, it's good to see new games selling well. Those sales for Dragon Ball are crazy good! And I'm pleased to be one of those that has picked up metaphor (a game I am very interested to see the sales figures for re Playstation vs Xbox)

Re: Hogwarts Legacy PS5, PS4 Could Be Getting Up to 15 Hours More Content

Rob_230

I'll be honest, I would rather a sequel so far after the launch of the title. It's really difficult to drop back into an expansion when you have subsequently played multiple other titles in the gap, and forgotten most of the controls and other intricacies- particularly where the DLC is often harder.

I think Hogwarts Legacy was an excellent game - they nailed the setting, although the limited enemies and slightly weak story pulled it down a little from achieving its full potential. They have an amazing canvas to build off though to tell future stories in the world and I very much look forward to playing more

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Silent Hill 2?

Rob_230

I'll be honest. When Silent Hill came out back on the PS One I didn't play it because I was massively into Resident Evil, and the bits of SH I played at a friend's seemed incredibly clunky in comparison so I didn't give it a fair chance.

Several years on, I think it's time to dive in and see what the hype is about, with many more years experience of playing games and survival horror titles in the bag.

I'll pick it up on sale at some point as there is just too much too play currently, and nowhere near enough time
