I don't understand why people are complaining about this because they don't need the features it brings. If you aren't going to use the features then don't use the control center. What they did was program a button to access things like news, personal play, and community, if you don't like this stuff then don't press the button, these parts aren't forced into your screen.
Also, while not mentioned yet, the cards may be customizable, they are cards like in a players hand and you can discard or add cards to customize your gameplay.
I don't understand why some people are talking about keeping their PS4 hooked up to play older games, and just playing PS5 games on the new console. Seems easier and with less clutter to just use the PS5, plus you can give or sell your PS4 to someone. #Hoarders
Other than godfall I do not plan on purchasing any new PS5 games within two or three months of its release. I mainly just want the console so that all of my old PS4 games can run better and load faster. I will be playing Marvel Avengers, Red Dead Redemption 2 online, PUBG, OverWatch, and Ghost of Tsushima.
I am also playing on an original PlayStation 4, and will notice a 7 years technological change.
Before the Xbox came out the stores had copies of Halo, so I would spin the game on my finger and imagine what it would be like to play it. Maybe those in the UK can do the same thing .
@stu123
I believe Mark Cerny said that you can store your ps4 games, and play them on the PS5, with an external drive.
This article might be more about how to transfer PS4 games without using an external drive, not about Wi-Fi transfer or online store download being the only methods.
In a article about Oodle Texture they stated that at first only some games will take advantage of the compression but later on most will have it. They also mentioned it being really easy to use for developers.
@MarcG420 Is it so the 5.5 isn't waiting on compressed data or something? Or is it 22 GBs compressed is equal to 5.5 uncompressed? Is the uncompressed like being unoptimised, it being the data before they streamline it? Making compressed data about fine tuning it for load?
I'm confused, I don't know much about computers, what is the purpose of compression if it doesn't matter due to uncompression being the max speed that something loads? What does having a high compression achieve that has made it important?
@BansheeNorn The price is high now because your paying for the convenience of having it immediately, I'm with you on waiting, unless there is much greater incentive to buy one soon then just more storage.
I don't want to keep deleting and downloading games when my space is full and I want to play something else, only to go back to what I deleted and needing to reinstall it. Can I get a cheaper option that is just used for offline storage and transfer the files back and forth as I need them? Even if it can download fast, I don't have the kind of internet to be doing that on a diverse month.
If I can have external storage that doesn't take long to transfer files back and forth then that's what I am going for, unless there is a way to make the PS5 even faster with a new SSD and the speed has a use for it.
@GravyThief
I think that mainly what they are talking about with the new engine has to do with the different formats for different people's ears. They have been studying ear profiles and the relationship to sound to produce templates for people so that the sound is realistic to their sense. Right now some games like PUBG use different sounds based off of the position of yourself and viewpoint, this is advancing it by making it more custom to you, making it a more 3d sound environment for the player.
@SurvivorGirl1
That is debatable, you have to spend x amount of dollars on every speaker to provide the same amount of quality from each point, making a 500 dollar speaker turn into a 3,000 dollar set. Your thinking is that because you spent 3,000 dollars, you get 3,000 dollars packed into each speaker, which is actually probably less then the 500 I threw out before due to for market value. There is also the immersion to take into account, mutiplayer, and living conditions. The headphones delivering audio based upon the relation to the character places you in the same sound environment and works to keep you immersed. Multiplayer gaming with chat means we don't want to hear everything you hear because you have a sound system turned way up, and living conditions have a similar regard where people could disrupt others by always hearing what they are doing. You being upset about Sony figuring out all the factors and configuring a setup to bring high quality at a low price is bordering selfishness, or is about you trying to justify a high price tag by creating value to it, and your basing your logic off of brute force pricing instead of learning about the finesse that Sony put into their product.
Surround sound may work well for movies but that's because I am not the person in the movie and I am not making decisions based off of the character's environment. Headphones are a much better choice for gaming, and making a system that works well for such is more important then making it good for expensive set ups.
@SurvivorGirl1
They are specifically saying that they are working on bringing it to more then their headphones, such as the TV and it's speakers. It isn't corporate greed, it is pushing technology to the next level by using an individual's perception of sound, custom formatting it to certain profiles to deliver 3d audio to the player, in the most accessible format to the mass player base. The idea of a nice pair of headphones that rival the experience of a 3,000 dollar atmos set up is the goal, that way more people can easily experience the high level quality. You have to have that speaker set up to simulate the sounds coming from different directions but Sony is using the sound itself to do so.
@UnlimitedSevens I use the Hyper X cloud Alpha headphones and I don't ever have a problem wearing them for hours, but they aren't wireless, they use the headphones jack.
This Pachter guy has been famously wrong before, he claimed the PS3 and Xbox 360 were the end of the consoles because streaming would have pushed them out, and then he claimed the next consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, would be the last successful consoles. While we have yet to know that the next gen will be more successful, it is a reasonable assumption that they will be. Like a video game, the consoles have upgraded their character and acquired special skills, such as the SSD. Now we can challenge the Load Demon with larger worlds and more happening! In order to have this next gen, we need dedicated hardware that a robust internet connection isn't going to match.
@Weebleman
It makes sense that they would detail as much as possible prior to release, the ad revenue from drip fed announcements could be a lot higher then a bulk here is everything, so they have been taking their time, but it isn't because they aren't going to say everything. Millions of people visiting a website 30 or 40 times, instead of once or a little more to reread the information.
I think the idea of giving it to people outside Sony for a test drive and review should be about someone speaking of the PS5 as a consumer and answering some questions that consumers are asking. Otherwise it is just another set of gameplay videos, but they are posted on a youtubers stream, with the controller in his/her hands.
I went over to Best Buy and bought it after reading the article. I am not too excited about a lot of the launch games, so having some older upgraded games is what I am looking forward to.
I agree, Microsoft didn't buy them for the exclusive content, they bought them to have a part in the sales. This generation of consoles for Microsoft sold half as much as the PlayStation, they have to weigh the potential for Zenimax to sell entire systems over how much profit would be made by selling through PlayStation. For the time being they may act like the "major" releases could be exclusive, but I doubt they actually will be.
Bethesda may get some things right but there is some areas like micro transactions and dlc that gets old fast. At some point it makes you wonder if instead of doing their best to release a game with a thorough amount of quality in it, they purposefully hold back so that you have to buy more, then they just add filler. The base construction in the 4th is just an empty addition that makes it feel like the game has more to it, all it takes is a company that can get it right without these compromises, and they'll take that market. Skyrim was basic and Oblivion was a little better, but Morrowind was the best and it's not a good thing when the quality has been declining, they developed a AAA name from Morrowind and Fallout New Vegas and now they just keep trying to sell some just above basic games with the same names and themes attached to them.

I didn't like the narrator, too cheesy and sugary, like they are trying to explain it to children, just give me facts.

More specifically they regard Oodle Texture and Oodle Kraken working together to compress 22GBs.
Unless I am remembering wrong, Oodle Kraken itself gets it to the 8-9 GBs and Oodle Texture finds patterns to maximise compression towards 22GBs
