I did buy last year's game (2K22) but, I was waiting on the DLC packs before making a final decision on 2K23 as the game for the most part looks basically the same anyway,
but as a fan of the WWF/WCW days of wrestling these packs "IMO" are some of the worst picks I've seen for some time so sadly a very easy pass for me this year I honestly have never heard of the majority of the wrestlers in the DLC packs,
truth is many of my favourite wrestlers (Mr Perfect, Rick Rude etc.) have not been in since 2K19, very disappointing.
I'd been keeping an eye on this game as I love a good tennis game and you just don't get them nowadays.
But, for me sadly this game is not the answer either, it overlooks for me one of the most important things in tennis and that's individual play styles (serves/shots etc.)
They've actually managed to put a decent roster together for once especially on the MALE side but all this good work is totally wasted when in the game nearly all the players play identical and have no signature shots or unique animations which IMO is simply pointless it makes the licensed players no more than different skins in the game.
I kid you not there's loads of videos on YouTube of the game and none of the licensed players play anything like their real life styles so personally I just don't see the point in having them.
I'll be honest, personally would have been much more excited if it was a brand new tennis game or even boxing, however I'll still keep an eye on this one and see how it turns out.
Have to say I'm totally torn on this, been a huge Yakuza fan since the PS2 days, so feel I have to wait & see before making a final decision on whether this new direction is one I'll be able to accept.
Main problem for me is turn-based combat is usually an instant no go area for me, in fact only games I can think of I've ever played in my entire life with turn-based combat are Paper Mario on the Cube and South Park TSOT on the PS3, that's it.
I want to be excited about a brand new Yakuza game coming out but sadly not really feeling it right now.
This is just what I was hoping for with this game, I'm a huge Yakuza fan so totally used to playing Jap themed games with English subtitles, makes a huge difference to the atmosphere when the game has the Japanese audio track, makes it an authentic experience for me.
I always remember one of my favourite PS2 games "Onimusha 2" superb game but the English only audio track was truly awful and certainly hurt the overall feel of the game and held the game back a little, glad Ghost of Tsushima is not making the same mistake.
I love a good tennis game, been crying out for a current gen tennis game for ages now, this game looked crap when it was released in Australia and watching some videos on YouTube it sounds as though the International release is more or less an identical game full of the same bugs/glitches throughout even though Big Ant are trying to say otherwise, oh and they want £45 for this broken mess, disgusting.
Worrying thing the other tennis game due out this month "Tennis World Tour" also looks poor, I had higher hopes for this one, but, latest footage of the game is not good at all.
So it looks like sticking with the seven year old Top Spin 4 on PS3 is still the only real option if you want to play a top quality tennis game on your console, so disappointing.
I was totally gutted with the delay at first, but, it's worked out kind of well for me as it's given me the chance to get through Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami in the last month or so and now this very morning I've just started my play through of Yakuza 5 (PS3) so the release date for Yakuza 6 should work out just right.
I think the hold up must be to do with the art book packaging and the special edition version, maybe it's taking SEGA longer than they thought to have all these bits ready for launch? only guessing though.
On another note, I'm a big fan of both the Yakuza and God of War series, and I will 100% be buying both, I really see no reason why anyone who likes the Yakuza series should not buy Yakuza 6 because God of War is released a few days later, both totally different type of games anyway.
Had my first go of the game last night, the gameplay is still as solid as ever which is the main thing, so pleased about that.
However, I really do miss the higher quality looking characters from previous games in the series, these new looking characters just look so poor IMO.
In fact I seem to remember the last PS3 version (the one that had a trophy list) was a better looking title all round than this PS4 version and I'm even playing on a Pro with all the best possible settings, so that's a bit of a let down.
Getting back to the characters looks, I think the trouble is that the fun characters have always been a major part of the series so seeing them look so MEH! in this PS4 version is a bit of a shock to the system.
@FX102A To be fair I never actually go mad when going for trophies, I've hardly got any Platinum trophies at all out of all the PS3/PS4 games I've played, just a few.
All I'm really saying is that I'm nine times out of ten more likely to play a game that has achievements/trophies over a game that has not got any, I just find them fun to aim for, I guess I've just got used to having them in games nowadays so when playing any game without them I tend to really notice and miss having them.
As I mentioned before if I only owned a Wii U or only owned a Switch then it would not be a problem, but owning both a PS4 & Xbox One the Switch just like the Wii U before it will probably not get much of a look in.
Just to add I'm a long time Nintendo fan, but just feel they need to catch up with the competition more in so many areas to get me more interested in their console again, an achievement system is one thing, but then just in general their online setup is WAY! behind the competition, so at the end of the day I need more from Nintendo to convince me to keep my pre-order.
@BLP_Software Time will tell mate, if it's done properly and not just some half a**ed achievement system then I'll be delighted.
It's going to take a lot to pull me away from my PS4 right now anyway, I have loads of games I need to get through, RE7, Nioh, Yakuza 0 etc. then soon the likes of Mass Effect & Horizon: Zero Dawn, it really is never ending in a good way of course.
@BLP_Software Like I said I had some really good games on the Wii U, and if I only owned a Wii U no doubt I would have had a great time with the console, but just never got round to playing most of my Wii U games, I'd always rather be playing on my other consoles and unlocking achievements/trophies along the way, as I said "to me" it was just an added incentive, Wii U games felt empty without them.
@get2sammyb Hmmm, it's possible I suppose, but seems a strange thing to hold back, I won't hold my breath but would love it if your right on this.
I know an achievement system can be a bit of a love or hate type thing, but I'm all for it 100% it really is important to me, I've always thought Zelda & Mario games etc. would be ideal for fun achievement lists.
I've bought every Nintendo console since the NES and have had my pre-order for the Switch in since Day One, however I'm seriously thinking whether or not to keep my pre-order, the main reason I did not touch my Wii U is because of the lack of an achievement/trophy system, I had good games for the Wii U but would always go to my Playstation or Xbox instead as there was just more incentive.
It looks very much like the Switch will not have an achievement system either so could be a deal breaker for me personally, just think Nintendo need to get with the times IMO, even more so as they will be charging for an online service later this year.
Until/unless EA improve the career mode which does not feel much different to playing "Play Now" mode over and over then I don't think this game will go anywhere.
A good career mode is vital in "any" sports game, sadly the career mode in Rory is so tedious to play through and has no life or atmosphere to it, no trophy celebrations or full leader boards etc. it's just all MEH!
Adding one course may bring people back just to have a round or two on the new course and then after that everyone will remember how empty the game is.
So frustrating as the actual gameplay in Rory is solid IMO, and the graphics are also decent.
@Rorimor Well, I guess I'll find out now as I've just pre-ordered it, I'm sure I'll have fun with the game however long it lasts, just looks like my kind of game, already looking forward to getting stuck into it.
I'm fairly sure I'd enjoy this game, but, the prices for the game £40-50 is ridiculous IMO, I highly doubt there will be any DLC support or anything for this game either, so I'd imagine it will be another "Order 1886" in terms of value for money.
Would love to play it at launch, but, will try and hold out and wait until it's a more sensible price.
Personally I'm still hoping they release a physical version of the game even if it's only a limited run or something, I for one would much prefer this game on disc.
Other than that it's also very high on my wish list as well.
Kind of torn on this, big fan of the GOW series, but, another remaster? Only way I honestly feel it would be worthwhile is if this (and other remasters) started getting some new content along with the upgraded graphics, and I don't mean a costume pack, I mean extra story DLC and maybe stuff that was cut from the game(s) originally, otherwise it just seems a bit pointless IMO.
Unless Sony is somehow planning on letting people play Yakuza 5 on PS4 (obviously not) then I still have a major reason to hold onto my PS3 for a long time to come.
Also I'm sure many people bought Kingdom Hearts II late last year on PS3 (I've not even started it yet), so I feel the PS3 still has enough reasons to keep going for a good while yet.
I love the PS4 as a console, but as others on here have rightly said the console is still yet to really take off in terms of "must play" games, while the PS3 has a huge library of "must play" games, many of which I'm still yet to play, and I would guess I'm not alone.
Still convinced I'll have a good time with this game, in my eyes I have picked it up for half price as I used a voucher (Christmas present) towards it, so I'm still looking forward to playing the game, just looks like my kind of game.
Would have been nice to have more replay value to the game, but in truth there are very few games I play more than one time through anyway unless they are really special.
For anyone saying it's the PS4's answer to Ryse: SoR I really enjoyed that game, although Ryse does have a decent MP mode as well.
Seems like I've been waiting FOREVER! for this DLC, I was very much on the "love" side of things with this game, dare I say it's one of my favourite PS4 games to date, can't wait!
@get2sammyb Just feel a lot of people were put off of getting an XO at launch (myself included) and PS4 was an obvious choice for many, but IMO MS have done a lot of good things to improve the XO situation along with many requested firmware updates, meanwhile Sony have had many problems with PSN down and hardly added any new features for ages or even since launch, obviously Sony can turn things around but I'm just surprised that they've not pushed on more, they had a really good chance to get miles ahead but I feel they have let MS back in quite a bit.
I'm so disappointed with the lack of decent firmware updates so far on the PS4, Sony never seem to release anything exciting in their updates, I'm no fan boy and am very lucky in that I own all three of the latest game consoles and I have to say the Xbox One has greatly impressed me in this area with constant and mostly worthwhile firmware updates.
I actually got hold of a PS4 on release and held off of the XO for quite a while but I feel Sony is doing a their very best to help MS catch up with all their recent problems.
Must admit I'm trying real hard not to buy any more games on my older consoles, I recently finished off TWD Season Two on PS3 and I'd also like to get round to playing both Puppeteer and the last Sly game that was released, other than that I only intend to buy Kingdom Hearts 2.5 this will "probably" be my final PS3 game that I buy.
Still nice that Sony are releasing the odd PS3 firmware here and there though.
Do we know if there will be a new/better trophy list for the PS4 version? the trophy list on the PS3 version was one of the worst ever! I know not everyone cares about trophies, but I enjoy a good trophy list to go through myself.
I was going to hold off of getting a PS4 until well into next year as I still have plenty to play on my PS3 (& other system's) I still need to get round to playing "The Last of Us" just for starters, also "The Walking Dead" Season 2 is something else that will take up some of my time on PS3 as I really loved Season 1.
But, in the end I picked up a PS4 this week, I wanted a specific bundle and it come back in stock at Amazon, so I just thought I may as well pick the console up while I was lucky enough to be able to afford and find one.
I went for the Knack bundle, just my type of game platformer/action/adventure etc. and I have to say after a good long session playing Knack yesterday I truly don't understand all the negative reviews, I'm not saying it's the best game ever made, but IMO it's a really solid game in it's genre and is pleasant enough to look at for a launch title as well, in fact I think it looks pretty good in terms of graphics, and at the end of the day it's very easy to pick up & play, so ideal as far as I'm concerned.
I hear you guys, glad it's not just me who's disappointed over Yakuza 5 not being released in the UK/US.
I just can't get over the fact that Yakuza 3 & 4 were pretty much Yakuza 1 & 2 but in HD, in other words no major improvements.
But, Yakuza 5 (from what I've heard/seen) seems to be the first Yakuza game that has been given a major upgrade in terms of gameplay/features/graphics etc. so it's a real kick in the teeth that SEGA have decided to stop at this point, it also makes no sense as surely Yakuza 5 may have sold better.
Can't believe SEGA released a spin off like Yakuza Dead Souls over here in the UK but have not released Yakuza 5, Yakuza 5 is/was one of my "most wanted" games, so frustrating.

@7Vita To be fair I don't really have an opinion either way on this Kickstarter thing that they do, although I do appreciate what your saying here.
All I know is the T2 table looks the part and I'd love to see it added to the Pinball Arcade on PS3 so I hope the Kickstarter thing is a success for that reason alone.
Looking at how long is to go I think it may struggle to reach the huge goal anyway.
I also play both Pinball Arcade & Zen Pinball 2, I totally agree that Farsight should work a bit harder on fixing/improving issue's with the game, I personally think Pinball Arcade is better than Zen Pinball purely because with Pinball Arcade you get real life tables, there's something special about playing real life tables.
If Farsight ever do the decent thing and tweak all the tables then it would blow Zen Pinball away IMO.
I see Farsight have another Kickstarter going at the moment for an awesome looking T2 table, look here:

Re: This Is How NBA 2K21 Looks on PS5
Such a shame 2K gave up on the Top Spin series, can only dream/imagine how good a new Top Spin tennis game would look on the PS5.
Top Spin 4 came out on the PS3 nearly a decade ago and still looks better than any tennis game released since and 100% plays better.

All I know is the T2 table looks the part and I'd love to see it added to the Pinball Arcade on PS3 so I hope the Kickstarter thing is a success for that reason alone.
Looking at how long is to go I think it may struggle to reach the huge goal anyway.
Re: The Pinball Arcade Will Employ Cross-Discount on PS4
I also play both Pinball Arcade & Zen Pinball 2, I totally agree that Farsight should work a bit harder on fixing/improving issue's with the game, I personally think Pinball Arcade is better than Zen Pinball purely because with Pinball Arcade you get real life tables, there's something special about playing real life tables.
If Farsight ever do the decent thing and tweak all the tables then it would blow Zen Pinball away IMO.
I see Farsight have another Kickstarter going at the moment for an awesome looking T2 table, look here:
