As we’ve already established, The Last of Us Remastered is not your ordinary re-release. Not only has the port been handled internally by award-winning developer Naughty Dog, but it’s also arguably the most important PlayStation 4 exclusive of the year. As such, it’s no surprise to see the studio commit to even more add-on packs throughout 2014.
According to some slides snapped by a Spanish journalist, additional content will be deployed later in the year. It’s unclear whether this will include single player or multiplayer extras, but we’re guessing that more perks and weapons for the surprisingly solid online component is the most likely. Honestly, though, we wouldn’t mind some kind of solo survival arena.
The slides also reiterate that the title will run at 60 frames-per-second in 1080p, but there will be an option to lock it at 30 frames-per-second if you prefer the ‘feel’ of the PlayStation 3 version. Apparently, texture maps have been boosted by four times, while particle effects have also been enhanced. Meanwhile, the DualShock 4’s light bar, speaker, and touchpad will have a part to play.
It's certainly shaping up to be a seriously complete package, which we suspect is going to sell like gangbusters when it deploys later this month. Sony appears to be committed to putting some serious marketing muscle behind it, too, as evidenced by last night’s television commercial. I'm really excited to play it, but I do feel both Sony and yourselves are pushing this as something far more than it is; an enhanced port, albeit a very good one. When the GTA Trilogy came out on the Original Xbox, it was massively enhanced but didn't receive as much attention as this is.
I'm all for more games to play on the PS4 and I will happily play this again, but it really isn't as big as everyone is making it out to be.
@Crimson_Ridley It may feel like we're posting about it a lot on here because there's literally nothing else going on right now! I do know what you mean, but judging just by the metrics we're getting for it on this site, I think it's likely going to be a big deal. Both this and Destiny are 'hot' right now.
@Crimson_Ridley I agree its a big release defo but certainly not ' the most important PlayStation 4 exclusive of the year'
More SP stuff will be welcome, hoping something about Tommy, but I really am looking forward to some MP stuff. I for one thought the MP was very strong.
@N711 I bet you it sells better than DriveClub, inFAMOUS, and LBP3 when all's said and done. Watch this space.
its also getting a photo mode like infamous!
@get2sammyb Hey no fair, it has more time to outsell the Holiday titles!
I just hope it sells more PS4 consoles really
I'm actually disappointed this will have additional DLC maps. Just like on PS3, it will split the user base.
@get2sammyb I bet you LBP3 sells more.
@get2sammyb I think my cynicism comes from the fact that this is literally all we really have to look forward to right now, with another re-release in GTA V later in the year. I have nothing against the games as they are fantastic, but I feel that we could have more right now. I do feel that this generation was supposed to start later this year, not last year.
@Crimson_Ridley Sure, its all you have to look forward to this year. One game is all you have to look forward to this year. Replace have with want.
I feel sad if this is the most important PS4 exclusive. Specially considering the fact that technically, this is not even an exclusive. The extra content should have been included at launch, methinks.
@sinalefa - "PlayStation 4 exclusive"
I'm glad you said it. It was going to sound mean spirited coming from me.
The key though is that TLOU is a PS4 exclusive for many cos they didn't have it on PS3. And I'm fine with many talking about it cos for it's one of the greatest games ever made. It's a bit like when Blade Runner got it's big box set release with all previous versions, your still getting a classic, it's just personal preference which one you want to watch or this case play (30FPS/60fps)
Do we know if there will be a new/better trophy list for the PS4 version? the trophy list on the PS3 version was one of the worst ever! I know not everyone cares about trophies, but I enjoy a good trophy list to go through myself.
Hot diggity dog! I can't wait to play this game again with a bit better graphics and 60 frames per second. I also hope all the add-ons are not the same from the ps3 version. I also agree - not the best ps4 exclusive, since its not new - I would have to give this to Infamous SS or Killzone SF.
I actually don't want any more DLC for TLoU now. I'm happy to buy it again, but any more SP DLC will feel like a stretch, and MP DLC packs will make the online userbase stretched once more like the PS3 version.
I guess, since the perks and weapons aren't included in Remastered solus, I could probably stomach some more of those... I guess.
And more hats.
Im gonna double dipp for sure but i really would have liked if they got the single player dlc built into the original game somehow for a seamless and cohesive experience.
