@KundaliniRising333 Neither of those are battle Royal games.
Here's what the report actually says:
Newzoo indicated that as a pair, shooter games and battle royale games routinely account for 40% of playtime. So as battle royale playtime has gradually shifted down, shooter playtime has been going up.
@wildcat_kickz Producer is a non-development role. It is like a manager, making sure the project is on time, resources are allocated efficiently etc etc
Some producers may also have creative roles though, or even technical roles. Warren Spector who directed Deus Ex was just a producer or similar role for the vast majority of his games.
I love the Outer Worlds, played it twice through and all DLC. The second game is a pretty big release for me. I just hope it's not as static as avowed and the conversations are more dynamic and cinematic style. Good high quality cutscenes would also help.
I maxed the last 2 seasons. Last one for the pet and the one before for the final armour. I still like the game and dopamine hit play style. I like the cosmetics a lot. The core gameplay is still very very rough though. It's still mainly push a button and watching everything die in the end game.
@Dan12836666 You understand they all have extremely popular multiplayer modes right? Not only that but every Halo game was playable through it’s campaign in co-op.
The hardware is very nice overall but the price is slightly on the high end, game prices are difficult to swallow and the software line up is not exciting if you already have a Steam Deck and are not excited about playing Cyberpunk 2077 or Elden Ring on a mobile device.
I guess I will get an OLED version in like 5 years. However, there’s becoming less and less Nintendo software I actually care about I feel. Maybe they’ll do a Star Fox game in the style of the N64 version, that would be pretty enticing for me.
The contract Sony / Insomniac have with Marvel probably includes them announcing it as soon as production started
This checks out with basically every big Marvel game I can think of. Blade got announced when it barely started, 1943: Rise of Hydra got announced in 2021, Marvels Avengers got announced 3.5 years before release etc.
I played FFIX last year(as a person that generally dislikes old games) and it holds up surprisingly well for a game with a battle system that is basically completely broken and total nonsense in the late game.
I’m guessing that when it comes it will be like a $40-50 game with no upgrade path? But hey, it’s Yakuza, they’re one of them games that tends to not get any real criticism. Japanese guys are the good guys and all.
Jesus Christ, no it isn't. Bungie had to cut staff because they had over 1000 employees because they were working on like 5 different projects and had a group that was hired for tv/movie production. There was far too much going on and focus had to be narrowed.
Destiny 2 is still wildly profitable, even with numbers diminishing. It was one the 12 top grossing games on Steam last year(like it is every year). That means it still grossed more than some brand new big games.
Bungie will be fine. Not making your financial targets means only making x profit instead of 2x profit. It doesn't mean they're suddenly losing money and in massive danger.
If Sony fully takes over the studio it's hardly the end of the world. Sony fully controls Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Santa Monica etc. They don't have any trouble making good games.
I haven’t even played it yet, and I’ll probably still wait a considerable period of time to do so. Maybe an entire years worth of title updates, and jump in just before the expansion comes out.
Dropping a major update on a Friday just seems like such a bad idea anyway. I guess the Japanese mentality just doesn’t care if all the programmers need to work over the weekend to fix stuff.
One of the things I feel people rarely acknowledge is that Sony have on three occasions recently given major DLC expansions for free. Legends mode for Ghost of Tsushima, Ascension for Returnal and Valhalla for God of War. Those were all pretty substantial updates, better than most paid dlcs these days.
You very rarely see any major publisher give updates like this out for free.
@riccyb0y You can play Elden Ring completely solo. This game would appear to force you into a server with other people competing against each other. That appears to be a fundamental part of the game design.
@AverageGamer Yes, I have a Steam Deck and a Razer Blade 15. However, whether I played it or not is irrelevant as that is just a sample size of one, and that’s irrelevant on PC. People will always have issues, and some people will have a perfect experience with a generally bad port. How widespread those issues are what is important.
If Spider-man had major issues it would impact the user score, which is the best proxy for game stability by far. Even games like Elden Ring dip down into the 70’s because of performance issues at launch. Spider-man was a constant 96% on steam, that’s not possible for a game with “major issues”. On launch day DF said SM1 was a couple of patches away from Perfection. That’s basically amazing for a modern PC port.
All the people who think this game is going to flop are going to look like complete muppets when this launches.
Destiny 2 is over 7 years old, gets dragged at every opportunity by fans and haters and it was still a platinum game on Steam last year(the 12 highest grossing games on Steam for the year) and has never failed to reach platinum status a single year, even after the player numbers falling significantly.
Bungie has a massive fan base and their name alone sells. This game also has the bonus of actually looking quite brilliant. The art style and aesthetics of the original trailer were great.
@AverageGamer The Spider-man 1 port was great and the Last of Us ptII has only minor isolated issues, people on steam said that they got higher performance than DF with a less powerful GPU(it's currently a 91.72% on steam and rising, very few people have issues).
The Last of Us pt.I and Spider-man 2 are the only truly terrible ports and both got improved immediately unlike things like Star Wars: Jedi and Dragons Dogma 2 which are still utter dreck
@OldGamer999 taking a PS4 game and making it 60 FPS and upscaling to 4k basically uses the entire PS5 overhead. There's practically nothing left. Same with series X and you will see similar with the Switch 2 when most of the games looks like Switch games at higher frame rate and resolution.
If we’re talking about the modern games industry where the influences can still be seen(so no Pac-Man or space invaders for example) then:
Super Mario Bros.
Super Metroid
Zelda: A Link to the Past
Doom(/Wolfenstein)
Command and Conquer(/Dune)
Baldur’s Gate 2
Pokémon Red/Green
Metal Gear Solid
Resident Evil
Final Fantasy VII
Mario 64
GTAIII
Resident Evil 4
Dark Souls
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Probably forgot some
Edit: Half-Life 2(|over the first because of Physics), Halo: Combat Evolved(complicated, changed console shooters but zero influence on PC) PUBG & Minecraft(guess I have to include these 😅)
Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Metroid Prime 4, Fast Fusion, Survival Kids, Silksong, Daemonj X Machina: Titanic Scion, Drag x Drive, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Kirby Air Riders, Enter the Gungeon 2, Starseeker Astroneer, Duskbloods, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Witchbrook, Pokemon ZA, Borderlands 4.
Something like 4 of those games were actual reveals. Including something like Silksong shows you’re a troll.
Consumers are some of the dumbest creatures in existence, banging on and on about how they want one thing, get it and then realise "Actually nah".
You’re being completely disingenuous. Wanting something and being excited about something is not the same at all. I want Oxygen but if someone made a video showing me the new amazing oxygen they’re selling I’d be pretty disappointed.
People want voice chat as a baseline. Not something that will be marketed as a special feature that excites you(it’s also paywalled i believe). Being able to play modern games is good as a bonus but who cares about ports of Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 that haven’t already played those games? If you are a person that buys Nintendo consoles and absolutely nothing else then great, the show was probably really exciting for you. For anyone that owns any other piece of hardware already it is was beyond mediocre.
The whole thing was underwhelming, what planet are people living on if they didn’t find that terrible?
It was basically all ports, 2 major first party game reveals and a fromsoft game that looked questionable but it’s still FromSoft.
At the PS5 reveal show they revealed about 6-7 new first party games. There was over 10 indies featured(including Stray annd Kena) and like a dozen third party games(no ports)and some were big reveals like RE:Village, Ghostwire Tokyo, Hitman 3 and Deathloop. Overall there were over 20 games revealed for the first time I’d guess.
The Xbox series X/S was basically comparable, the only downside being all of the first party games were eventually delayed, and some were years away to begin with(but if you didn’t know that then it looked pretty good)
The big saving grace is that Nintendo probably have a big fall game they’ve not shown yet.
It’s not good for the industry I feel, it will lead to revenue being redistributed away from smaller games towards the behemoth releases. That would make it even harder to survive on the fringes or with second tier games.
Who’s funding the Alan Wakes and Ico’s in that industry?
One of the most underwhelming console reveals I can remember.
If you’re a Nintendo only player then a lot of those ports will be nice but if you’re not then the show had practically nothing except Mario Kart and I’ve not played Mario Kart in almost 20 years.
@RoomWithaMoose There was never a single post that I recall having enthusiasm for the live service games. Understanding it from a business decision or having an open mind is very very different.
That trailer is kind of wild, I actually laughed out loud twice. It’s all like typical Fromsoft stuff and then the dude shoots off a in jet pack lol, then someone is fighting stuff and then one of them appears to randomly turn into a dinosaur.
Also, random dude turns up at the end with the typical Eyes covered signature From style, but he’s wearing only his onesie pyjamas for some reason.
