Semi forced update. Im sick of these. Sony offer nothing in features. The PS4 had better features and UI. These stability updates are nothing more than sony covering loop holes found in the system software, to prevent hackers getting into for piracy. Its what Sony has been doing since it was so easy to hack the psp.
I get that Sony want piracy stopped but I have to be forced to download the update to get back online.

It's a difficult one to predict. Switch 2 could be £1000 and fanboys would still buy it. Actually when the scalpers have them on ebay for a thousand pounds you'll see those who'll pay it.
But is the pricing going to put many off. Especially if they already own a switch. Will parents want to buy it for their kids. Years ago I would have said no way would they justify that price. But kids today get expensive smart phones. We automatically think the successor will be a massive hit and reach over a 100 million sales. But we thought the same about the Wii U. Nobody wanted that console, why? My guess was that they had the Wii and didn't feel they needed Nintendo next console. Will people think the same for the Switch 2. For me the switch was always a handheld console that replaced the 3ds. As Nintendo never brought out another DS style handheld. When you think of all the Wii sales combined with the Nintendo handheld sales, it's something like 250 million at the time. With switch 2 being another handheld, it's likely to have the same success. But not before the price cones down as I'm sure it will.
The Switch 2 has to be a success. If not then it just leaves a PlayStation console on the market. We know we'll see a ps6, but we are uncertain about another xbox console. And if Microsoft does bring something out, it's gonna be a cloud based device. And all their games coming to other platforms like PlayStation. So it PlayStation and Nintendo that are keeping the console generations alive at the moment.

MS are all about making money and keeping stock holders happy that their stock price is high. No company cares about their customers, they care about taking their cash from them. MS is struggling now to sell consoles, with that also struggling to sell games so their revenue is mainly coming from game pass and guess what, that's not sustainable as its costing more yo get third party on there than what they make on subscription, they simply need more subscriptions but how do you do that if you sint sell consoles to consumers. Xbox isn't making money from their own studios, pumping money into making games they offer for free. Just think of the billions lost from releasing black ops 6 on game pass day one. They money spent on the Activision acquisition to bring cod to gamepass they are losing money on. That's billions of pounds spent with no return. So they get rid of staff and close down studios. So where else will they make money, putting their games on playstation, a very sustainable platform. Sea of Theives on psn must have made a ton of money for xbox. That's good business, let's stick more games and franchises on there. Wait a minute are MS setting themselves up to be the biggest game publisher rather than a console manufacturer. The Activision ownership could have been so they can be this massive publisher and wasn't to get cod to their console.
Next consoles in the future. PS5 Pro. (Ps4 Pro was announced, so about 6 months later, MS announced xbox one x. This gen we have xbox series s but also the x is already out. So no xbox series to rival PS5 pro) then switch 2 is announced. Then released. Then PS6 announced. No word on next Xbox then we hear xbox is going all cloud based in future.

I've only just discovered this today. I thought it had something to do with the latest ps5 update as I tried to play a game that wanted me to buy when I already had it installed. I have 40 games installed and 2 of them show the padlock next to the ps plus symbol. It's absolutely bollocks this. I was playing this game and I can no longer continue. Could do with slapping PlayStation executives right around their faces. I wasn't to know that this game was going to be removed from the premium catalog. Where was the warning sony? I shouldn't have to go out of my way everytime to check if a certain game will be removed. Effing joke

I'm not a fan of this month. Both hood and spongebob are pretty poor games in my book. Slay the spire is quite good a game but still not that interested. Only would bother if I hadn't already had so many others to get through.

@Zanyboy786 what's crazy is that you can go into settings/system and you can change Web browser settings. Why if there is no browser to access the Internet. I know there's a neat trick to access the Internet. Never tried it, I image it sucks like the PS3 and ps4 browser do.

@KidBoruto I need this feature desperately too. The PS4 home screen wasn't too bad before folders but when it had the feature, it was bliss to have everything organised. On PS5 I have the ps5 games mixed with ps4 games and if you have psvr games installed, It only says ps4 and not psvr. I'm not sure if the ps4 game is vr or not as I don't remember so will have to load game to check or look online.

@JJ2 nothing worked for me till I went into settings and enabled the feature. Then the microphone on the controller picked it up.
Have you got your microphone enabled on the device you are using whether it's the controller, camera or headphones

Let's look into the real truth of software updates... 'Piracy' but Sony doesn't like to say. When we had the psp there was an update every month because it was hacked every time. Sony would love to give a new software update every month on ps5 where they say it's for software stability but how long would we put up with that for? So now and then sony throws in a couple of new, sometimes pointless features to hide what's really happening. Yes sony hears us but they don't bother that much. It took a whole generation leap to get trophy tracking and still haven't got that right.
Now we've been asking for 'folders' for our home screen because the 'ui' is a mess compared to PS4 and what we get is pinning a few games to the home screen instead.
Instead of fannying about with pinning they should have implementing custom folders. Did someone here say it took a year to be a feature on ps4? So sony know how to do this and shouldn't have taken this long.

So don't worry your heads. If you still love Sony and their games you're still going to get those games. Given the option to choose between Sony exclusives or having MS, Bethesda and Activision instead. I'll take Sony games anytime. God of War and uncharted are my 2 favourite franchises of all time. There's some of those Bethesda games I'll miss like fallout but I won't as I have gamepass. Put gamepass on my ps5 and ill be buzzing as that ms all I need.
Another question especially to those who voted for Sony to buy more.
If Sony had 60 billion in cash ready to spend. Would you A: vote for Sony to buy a publisher. Or B: have Sony start up more studio's and hire top talent to make new ip's and amazing story driven games? I'm going with B.
I do wish however out of the huge list of studios under their belt. The last count was 16 studios not including the rumoured new japan studio to replace the one they strangly closed and the hand full of 2nd party studios. I wish Sony invested more in those and made them bigger. Some studios do little in comparison. Like San mateo studios that only oversee projects. And FowardWorks that only make mobile, why I wonder? Others make smaller games like everybody's golf, MLB, concrete genie and so forth. Enlarge those studios, put money into those to create tripple A titles. I'd love to see all 16 studios pumping out big budget games and each studio has a smaller team that develops a psvr version of their games that obviously is overseen by Sony so they are quality.

I don't know why gamers worry about this sort of thing. It isn't going to effect your life or anything. But if the buyout concerns you that Microsoft will have dominance over Sony let me give you some reasons for why I feel they won't.
Firstly don't be too hastily as this buyout is yet to be approved and Microsoft will face challenges. It is said the buyout won't be complete till 2023 at the end of Activision fiscal year most probably. Secondly the FTC ruling doesn't allow for market monopoly. They told MS in 1998 to split up the company which later was overturned in an appeal. FTC stopped Facebook buying out Instagram. So there's a possibility the same thing can happen again?
With that out of the way. I see the votes are in favour of Sony buying. Is that really a good thing. Who would they buy? If they bought square Enix it'll be massive but do you play any square Enix games. I played FFVII Remake and found it to be over rated imo. Don't think I've played their any other of their games for years that's come from in-house. OK so Activision has a bigger franchise that's played by millions in the western world. I personally am not a fan and Ive never played WoWC. Diablo is alright but no system seller.
Call of Duty however is a system seller but do Microsoft care about selling consoles? They don't publish figures, the forums wars about selling console don't seem to exist anymore. Things have changed. MS wants gamers on game pass and xcloud. If MS can get as many on those platforms the better. I can see a future where xcloud is on PlayStation, on your smart TV. I've already played xcloud on my Sony android phone. MS owning Activision isn't about the next call of duty exclusive to xbox selling more consoles. It'll have some push but for MS, they are investing for the future on online streaming. They would love games to be played just as well as we love to use Netflix. MS wants Activision for the huge back catalogue of games that will come to gamepass and xcloud just for your subscription fee. The future will no longer be about buying a physical copy or paying for a digital download. It's a shame as I love physical copies and I own them to do as I please. Also if every gamer is on subscription it'll change the industry forever especially for 3rd party publishers. Where they'll have to sell their games to MS for xcloud or Sony future versions of PS now instead of selling it to the consumers directly. That'll be Interesting to see. Plus it could mean improvements in game quality. MS might not want to pay for games that suck to go on their streaming platforms?

We could be reading on the near future that MS will be buying chips for their xbox console from sony. In a way the blu Ray format in xbox is kinda from sony

Not a big fan of user reviews on any site. The ones on metacritic you can't take seriously, it's mainly review bombing on there especially if it's all about hate. Users can feel disappointed or there's problems in the game but they are far from professional. A review that only consists of 'this game sucks a 0 out of 10' or 'worse game ever 0 out of 10' these need to be removed. We all know that the majority of the reviews are from those who have yet to own the game and are just jumping on the bandwagon. Mass effect andromeda had this reception. I got to play that game after all the patches and had no issues, so enjoyed the game. Cyberpunk may need work so it's easy to wait for these problems to be fixed. The gameplay and story telling still could be great

My money is ready and waiting. Who doesn't want faster load times? Not bothered about 8k. And I don't think devs will bother with it either as it's wasted resources having rendering extra pixels when nobody had 8k tvs

Didn't know this existed till I was browsing on YouTube. One thing I hated about snooker games was the presentation which I did understand as money wouldn't have been put in these games. Now I have seen this in action again visuals and presentation is poor almost like a ps2 game

Not a good month for me. I don't care for cod or the witness. Who is the one who makes the decision of what free games to offer each month? The witness? Hardly a game you offer to the masses. Believe me the download for this game will be low, probably what Sony wants.

I wanted to try for honor and have now been told its bad and only online. I would still give it a go if the only online thing was wrong. Hitman first season, what is this game exactly? I remember downloading hitman on a free psn download but it wasn't the complete game only the prologue. I was made to download a huge file when I started the game and it turned out as I was told, that I downloaded all the game but had to purchase it in the store to unlock the levels. I was pissed at that.

@NintendoFan4Lyf My guess and a theory I've always had. Sony isn't really improving system performance rather than tackling piracy. I remember the psp and the custom firmware. It seemed Sony would release an update shortly after the current firmware was hacked. This is how I remember it. I used to argue the pointless nature of the firmware that Sony was releasing to stop the hackers when really am sony was doing was preventing them with a challenge to hack. Everytime a new firmware from Sony came out nothing had changed in terms of features or something very basic was added as if to give us a reason to update. But one thing it stopped at that time was pirate games. I bet the hackers wished Sony brought out new updates on a weekly basis as the hackers loved to hack. Piracy was a major problem on psp and it was always easy to copy downloaded games from pc to the psp.
As we clearly never see our PS4 show any improvements after each update and especially the huge but very disappointing 6.0 update. My UI and slow ps store, news feeds, syncing trophies etc are still very slow on an 100Mpbs ethernet connection. So as on psp, most likely, vita and ps3. These updates are sony trying to stop the hackers

Spyro the king of dragons. Also easy plats. Pokémon sells better combined. That's because the game has essentially been bought twice. If all three games of spyro had been sold separately then sales of spyro would be around 3 times as much.
I've played some of the Fallout games but haven't fancied fallout 76, why online only? Are the drop in sales of physical copies a reflection of the low demand for the game or a shift in purchasing habits?
Red Dead 2 will probably hang around in the top ten for a while. So glad fifa has fecked off... For now.

@jdv95 yes that would make sense. Fortnite didn't win in any other category and wouldn't deserve so either. So how can it be the best game anywhere right now. Make no frigging sense. GoW should have taken the game off the year. Not giving it to GoW is like FIFA not giving Ronaldo or Messi footballer of the year after they scored 100 goals in a season respectively.

I'm happy with my psn name. I wasn't one of those who chose 5ghy/"df_ur54 or what ever. Its why our parents choose carefully so we don't have to worry when we grow up

@Bamf I take that back. The store opened before. 10 minutes in it did the usual where it no longer opens and I have to tick 'connect to Internet' off then back on again.
I think Sony doesn't care about fixing the Internet issues. And I bet they've taken away even more resources from the browser, it was already practically useless

Got home from work and now updated. Something has changed. Before if I hovered over "what's new" it would take a while to load as it gathers info from Internet. Same for hovering over psn store. Now it loads quicker. The test is to open 'TV & video' it was very slow. Now it immediately opens up.

When we were all engaged in psp back in the day I remember all those updates and it was said that the updates were to tackle piracy. They would say that Sony came out with a new update to the firmware to counter every time the hackers broke it.
I always believed that Sony's methods were only encouraging the hackers to crack the new update in which they did.
These "improve system performance" could be sony trying to stay ahead of the hackers? Sony never say what area of the system it improves and we never see any improvements of the system in each update

Seriously though who are those people who go out and buy a new physical copy? I can imagine those buying it again because we see many updates for the game but why new copies when it's far cheaper to buy it from ebay? If you already purchased the digital copy then there's no need for a second purchase.

With better technologies and pricing vr can only rise as a accepted medium for the masses. We've all seen star trek and like most we would spend all day on the holodeck. Even though its many years in the future and not in our lifetime, there needs to be a path that leads to these future technologies. VR is one step closer in my opinion. It gives us that reality that we are looking for and will always improve. VR can't be abandoned, do we continue to play games using generic joy pads on a TV screen forever? Even tv technology is looking for something different I'm sure? Tv hasn't had a leap since black and white became colour. OK so there's lcd over crt. But I remember when tv sets had changed from being black to being silver for a while, then wide-screen. Nothing spectacular more that manufacturers were desperate for reasons for us to buy their next model.
We don't really care about hdr as we make out and who wants to buy a 55" 8k TV in a few years? pointless. Tv's need and will be replaced.

@GKO900 it's the same with games. 80 million consoles like you say and Sony can release their biggest blockbuster game and only 3 million copies sold. I always wonder what the other 10 of million gamers are playing other than gta v still. Even game attach rates aren't that high. Last year it was around 9 games that ps4 owners bought in 4 years. Imagine owning a ps4 for that length of time and you only played 9 games? That's a month for me lol

@zimbogamer I'm generally the same when it comes to dlc. The game is so good and so was the offer on both hearts and blood dlc's for £11.99 I think it was I just had to get it. Both are excellent dlc's I must add

Japan have completely different gaming taste to the west. Plus ps4 and xbox consoles are bigger than some of their houses.

@Gravity_Bear I'm waiting for the engineer to repair my Sony tv. Twice now this has happened in a year. First 3 months the panel went so it was a replacement. 1 year on now power to the unit. Engineer has already ordered the part before even having a look at it. Seems a common issue. Dps board I think is faulty. Tv is xd9305.
Don't think it would matter if the playstation was built in or not. Can't play it regardless lol. And it's killing me. I do have another Sony in front room but I'm not allowed to use my own tv

@RogerRoger I do have the same feeling about the viao range. I get that Sony don't want to be in that market now but would have been nice if Sony viao with some serious spec to compete with gaming laptops. So knows though as I'm sure Sony are back in the robotics division which Im excited about even though I can't afford their robots.
