Re: Digimon Story Time Stranger Really Is a Digimon Game with a Budget

AverageGamer

@Kain40 Yes those games were on console but…

Handheld games ported to console does not make it a console game… A handheld game is still designed first foremost for the platform it intends to be on. Those games were not developed with console in mind… cause during conceptual stage those games was never planned to be on console or PC platforms. You easily tell by the visual, design, and gameplay of those games that they was made for limitations of the vita.

Just like if you port a mobile game to console… it doesn’t just stop being a mobile game. Look at Fantasian, yes it on console, but everything in that game scream mobile game limitation.

Everything about this game shows an actual console game not held back by the limitations of a handheld platform. That is probably why it is not coming to the 150+ million switch consoles which is crazy considering Nintendo platforms was home to some of best digimon games, and they’re wasting resources on Xbox still.

@Robamuffin @Dragoon1994 World Next Order, Cyber Sleuth were vita games ported to console. Hacker memory was a continuation of Cyber Sleuth and was basically built of the same tech… So still was a handheld game. That also still came to vita.

Digimon survive isn’t in the same category as the mentioned games or this one, and is on Switch…

Digimon Story Time Stranger is not coming any of the Switch systems. There is no handheld version. It was entirely built from the ground up take advantage of the power of PS5, Series, and PC. No last gen consoles either. This first real console digimon game in 20+ years

Re: Konami Wants to 'Consider Lots of Other Games' for Remake Treatment if MGS Delta Succeeds

AverageGamer

@Nakatomi_Uk Not even a company like Microsoft that is worth $3 trillion wants to spend the cash on internal engines and training… Hell, no company does. Just cause you make money doesn’t mean it goes back right into unless investment like a proprietary engine. That like tell a gamer to spin up their own data center for game servers instead of renting that space from cloud providers like AWS, Microsoft, Google.. etc Every company has generally moved away from internal game engines… CD Project Red, Square Enix… etc.

Training and onboarding is a massive nightmare. That time spent retooling an engine and training new employees could have been spent on actual game development. Instead of spending 6-12 months training and onboarding, you can now just spend 3-6 months, cutting down development costs of a game

There is reason why the next Halo, Cyberpunk, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Witcher is all being built on UE5. Continue use of the FOX engine would drastically draw up development costs. And it would vastly limit the amount of platform a game can release on.

Good luck bringing a FOX engine game to Switch without massively overhauling the engine for an ARM based device.. Then what happens when you do release a Switch game, and it massively does terrible in sales. Making you reconsider future Switch titles. Which means that entire time you spent retooling for Switch a massive lost investment.

The fact that Xbox and PS are basically twins, the move to UE5…etc is all to keep development cost down. You don’t want $70-80 games, but you want them to create a proprietary engine which in turn increasing development costs 🤦‍♂️

Re: Konami Wants to 'Consider Lots of Other Games' for Remake Treatment if MGS Delta Succeeds

AverageGamer

@Nakatomi_Uk The amount of work that requires generational upgrade for internal engine like the FOX engine… Is why so many companies have moved away from proprietary engines to UE5. It way too much money, and the amount of training to get new employees up to speed on game development using a proprietary engine is ridiculous. Most college students only have UE or Unity experience.

Neither the RE or Decima engine is open to general public use like that. Kojima is allow to use Decima engine cause they are making a game for PlayStation. That probably is why Kojima next game with Xbox is using UE5, not Decima.

Re: Bungie Boss Pete Parsons Departs as Sony Starts to Take Control of Flagging Dev

AverageGamer

@johnedwin Cause the argument of the purchase was that Bungie would retrain full independence under Sony(PlayStation) while providing independent guidance for Live Service games. Bungie would only lose that independence if they failed to meet project deadlines and profit goal… Both thing Bungie has failed to do since their purchase gone through. Bungie has also failed their agreement to provide Live Service guidance as Sony has legit failed to launch any really successful live service games.

Re: BioShock Infinite Executive Returns to Rescue BioShock 4 from Dev Hell

AverageGamer

@Odium TBH... I think these people on this site is in the minority. I had almost heard nothing but fantastic praises about Infinite from friends, family, and just the general public. It sits at a 94 on metacritcs, and won multiple awards. Elizabeth is generally considered one of the most beloved and memorable companions in gaming history. Some people are just mad that it didn't have the same "horror" element found in the first 2... But that still haven't stopped it from being the best selling game in the franchise

Re: Xbox Game Pass May Make Devs 'Wage Slaves', Says Ex-PlayStation Exec

AverageGamer

Most developers are wage slaves anyway? Most studio are in overly expensive areas where even 100k a year is living on poverty line. We hear non stop about the long hours, crunch, poor conditions and environment, harassment… etc. Just cause they work in better looking building than a McDonald’s.. and can add PlayStation or Xbox to their resume doesn’t make them above wage slaves.

AverageGamer

@UltimateOtaku91 “ Great to see, hopefully this becomes the COD killer we need.”

Battlefield has been trying to be the CoD killer for last 15+ years… This one ain’t going to be it. We still have to hope it not broken on the release like the last couple battlefields.

Re: Media Molecule's Last Remaining Co-Founder Resigns After Nearly 20 Years

AverageGamer

@Markatron84 Usually tool development cost is a one time thing that can reused for multiple games, and Sony tend to not keep their game server up for very long. At least with LBP they made their money back. They made 3 LBP, a spin off move game, a spin off kart game, ported the first game to PSP... That would crazy to make all of that for a franchise that was not a financial success.

Dreams on the other hand... probably not.

Re: Media Molecule's Last Remaining Co-Founder Resigns After Nearly 20 Years

AverageGamer

@Markatron84 Little Big Planet was their bona fide hit… Each game has sold multiple million copies, and has gained several awards. It probably help that MM isn’t a large studio.

Sack boy was basically was PlayStation adorable tiny mascot for the PS3 generation. He has now been replaced with Astro Bot.

But that probably why we’re see all these founding members leave the last couple of years after Dreams…MM next game is probably their last of it doesn’t do significantly well.

@nhSnork “ Speedstorm's own racer/crew capsules would have news for you”

That must have been something new they add…

“ Capsules were first introduced in the 7th Season.”

Ah. Yup. They completely changed their system post beta, post early access, and almost a year after free to play launch… So, my information is outdated as I dropped the game season 5-6.

Freemium games doesn’t make a game a gacha… I was strictly talking about gachas. And not just freemium purchases your character micro transactions games. Games where literally base core concepts rely solely on rolling for characters (Genshin, Honkai, Zenless, ArKnight, Wuthering Waves… etc)

Bleach: Brave Souls is recent release for switch so I didn’t release that came to the platform.

@shiningpikablu252 " Can't say Switch 2 chances got completely killed (we don't know exactly just how much more a base PS4 is holding things back than a PS4 Pro), but I'd estimate the shots just got longer..."

Grant, if any of these games was gonna come to Switch... They wasn't going to use the console/PC fork of the game. They would use the mobile/ARM version of the games. You won't port a x86 to ARM, you port ARM to ARM. Switch 2 should have no probably running any modern ARM code at max settings.

PS4 support being drop isn't surprising. PS4 is the weakest x86 version of the game, and the support just isn't there vs say supporting a lower tier ARM version since the mobile code will still be viable in the future due to low cost mobile phones still releasing on the market.

There must be something else going in the back ground other than just performance reason for Genshin to not to come the Switch. None of the major other gacha have release on the platform, and for a system that is that did as well as the Switch... that is very strange. Star Rail hasn't even released on the Switch, and that not open world, and more linear Persona turn base style game play.

Re: Free-to-Play Juggernaut Genshin Impact Is Delisting and Shutting Down PS4 Version

AverageGamer

@rjejr “ And it's not just the Gatcha as Switch 2 has Fortnite and Disney Speedstorm”

Those aren’t gacha games, you pay money and you get what you want in those games… you aren’t endlessly spinning a wheel in the hopes you eventually get what you want like with gacha. There are actual no gacha games on Nintendo system. There are a few games with gacha like systems like Xenoblade Chronicles 2. But actual no full gacha…

Re: Octopath Traveler 0 Revealed, But No Sign of PS5 Version Yet

AverageGamer

@Lowdefal “ It's more that they don't do it for AAA games, and as big as DQ is it's not a AAA game.”

The correct answer, is that they don’t do turn base for AAA aimed at the west. The modern day FF are more popular in the west than Japan. While Dragon Quest is a vastly more popular franchise in Japan vs the West.

Re: Sony's Horizon Franchise Has Sold a Wild 38 Million Units Worldwide

AverageGamer

@themightyant Astro Bot and Cyberpunk aren’t new IPs… Astro bot is like the fifth overall installment in the Astro Bot series. And like 3rd actual game behind Rescue mission. Cyberpunk isn’t a new IP… It based off a TRPG, and Cyberpunk 2077 wasn’t the first time that world was introduced to video games. Cyberpunk: The Arasaka's Plot was a game that came out 07.

@CielloArc " I don't expect to see Uncharted on Xbox or even Switch 2, but Tokkon, Stellar Blade, Lost Soul Aside, Helldivers 2, MLB and the others? Yeah, I can picture that."

Yeah. They probably don't want to see to another Death Streading where those studio run off and get a completely different publisher to publish the game on xbox... meaning they lose on that protentional revenue

@TheFakulty They had 3 possible games and n development. The Division 3, The Division Heartland, and The Division Resurgence. Heartland was can. But there still hope for The Division 3 and The Division Resurgence (mobile game) is still planned for this year. The Division 2 also just saw Battle for Brooklyn dlc released this year.

Grant, both of those games started as Switch 1 games and wasn’t built from the ground up for the Switch 2. So the jury is still out on Switch 2 games not looking much better than Switch 1. We’ll have to wait and see what Nintendo internal teams are able to achieve over the Switch 1.

Re: Sony's Zelda Movie Confirms Its Link and Zelda Actors

@Icey664 5 years gap is a big gap when you realize this movie won’t release be releasing until 2027, and Hunter Schafer will be pushing 30, by the 2nd, and pushing mid 30s by the 3rd films.. vs mid 20s and late 20s.

Sony wanted teens-young adult actors for these roles… not adult actors.

Re: Artwork of Deviation's Cancelled PS5 Project Surfaces

Tbh… I can see why this was cancelled. Deviation Games Partnership with Sony was before their purchase of Bungie… and with the massive failure of Concord. Did they really need to takes the chance on another sci-fi when you basically own the current biggest sci-fi shooter on the market (Halo dead RIP, so Destiny basically 1st now)?
