I mean doesn’t mean a lot when the important specs are still undetermined.

What a useless article when most of the specs are unconfirmed.
Also these are completely different devices so comparing apples to oranges.
A better comparison would be to the OG Switch and PC handhelds like the Steam Deck, Lenovo Legion Go, ROG Ally X etc.

Isn't it the power draw rather than the power output? The console isn't powering something else, it's taking power.

@Sakhasm They'll be running a lot of the same games so a spec comparison is relevant. It's not apples to oranges, it's like comparing different TVs, different ovens, different cars, and so on. Especially since the Switch 2 is more expensive than a PS5 digital edition. (Even then the apples to oranges figure of speech is weird; you can absolutely compare them - which has more calories, which has more sugar, which has more vitamins etc.)

You guys should do a game price comparison next.

5GB of RAM is pretty low, especially considering the Steam Deck and all the other handheld PCs have 16. Even the Series S has 10!

Why are we comparing specs for a handheld vs a console that was so large most of us had to buy a new desk or TV furniture stand for? For fun?

How about i compare a PC to a PS5? You know just for Tech spec comparisons. Like what are we doing here?

But I wouldn't get a switch 2 for the price they say. It's more than a digital PS5, so the better choice to get would be a PS5. Can even get a steam deck, the cheapest one for a little less.

Because it's the newest console from one of the three main console makers, is PC a console? It absolutely has to be compared as not everyone buys multiple consoles!

Some people just stick to one and maybe they would want to know if they pick the Switch 2 it would be capable of running GTA 6 or RDR3 in the future.

Yeah, i thought exactly the same - a lot of the complaints from devs I read about the Series S and it 'holding back the generation' (I actually think its a good thing its around to keep devs ambitions in check), relates to it only having 10Gb of RAM, and the Switch 2 has less RAM than a PS4?!

@Juanalf i mean i guess so???? But spec comparisons as we know aren’t the final say in ports and game devs, cause Series X is better than PS5 paper specs. While it shows in a lot of games it doesn’t in many as well. Asking me if a PC is a console is my point in asking is a Handheld hybrid a console? The answer is no. They are different products.

@ButterySmooth30FPS I have no clue where they got 5gb… The og had 4gb. No way they only bump the ram by 1Gb. No actually specs list has been released. Also, you can’t compare ram spec of PC devices vs the Switch. Windows alone on handheld devices with eat about 85% of the memory.

This comparison (without looking at it) is a little silly. We all know the switch 2 is going to be much much weaker tech wise. These two consoles don’t really compete for the same market.

I'm normally a big fan and defender of this website but I can't help but feel like a lot of the recent articles are secretly trying to deminish Nintendos new console.

Not everyone admittedly, but a vast majority of people will probably buy both consoles so you don't need to feel threatened by Nintendo (when I say you, I mean the Push Square writers not Sony themselves) so please stop with the defensive articles making sure everyone knows that PS5 is the more powerful console

@kedireturns don’t need to go to.a website to know a Hybrid console/Handheld isn’t the same as a home console. Without a portal can you take your PS5 as is in the box it comes in and play it on the go?

Yes but there's comparing them, and then there's comparing them in a deliberately negative light......You are right though, PS5 has nothing to be insecure about.

It's the writers on this website I'm getting the insecure vibes from...It feels like there's an unnecessary dig in every article pointing out that playstation is still the superior console. (everyone already knows this so it doesn't need pointing out)

I don't know maybe it's just me but that's the feeling I've taken away from every Switch 2 article on here over the last day or so.

Either way it doesn't really matter.... Come June I'll have my Shiney new Switch 2 sitting proudly next to my Launch day PS5

It’s just an upgraded switch. Which is fine. I didn’t expect it to compete with a pure home console. But there was nothing there to justify the price hike on games which cost substantially less to make than AAA PS or Xbox games.

And the focus on social features, whilst completely on brand, really isn’t for me.

Plus it seems they’ve paid for a load of times exclusives which, again, I don’t criticise them for, but as they will inevitably be weaker versions than the full console counterparts it is a bit annoying. Especially as they must know they are building a console that will either be for casual gamers or which will be a second console for more “hardcore” gamers.

I'm glad it's not just me that's noticed it... The whole thing just seems forced and unnecessary.

As I've previously mentioned I love PlayStation and Nintendo equally so I have no particular bias one way or the other.

I just wish Push Square would praise Nintendo properly instead of dishing out back handed compliments that have a discreet underlying reminder that Playstation is still the superior console

Fair specs. 256GB internal I wasn't sure if it was that or game cards sizes.

We still don't know or even game cases if will be reused and just different box art details. Which I assume would be the case unless some booklets, advertising is different then the Switch clips and the left side gets more I hope?

Otherwise even if LDDR 5GB seriously I mean the PS4 was going to have 6GB then went to 8GB like 360 had 256MB then went to 512MB because of a Dev request I think.

So 5GB and 1GB for the system let's say if not less for the system and 4.5GB let's say to work with for games/apps, that's 2GB more then Switch 1.

I mean sure. If they can pull it off, what games, what flexibility with that much while others had more to offer with their range of things and a larger amount.

How Devs use them is up to it but yeah graphics and techniques, HDR and more I find the RT, HDR and more badly used.

Gameplay takes a hit as well because of graphics focus so to me games have just been pitiful.

Even if say 256MB or 512MB or however much for system in the background, home screen, etc. 4GB is fair over 3GB and compared to 1GB on Wii U with the 2Gb it had.

RAM isn't everything of course but for RAM, VRAM/GPU and CPU I am curious how they are getting even besides battery efficiency much out of it.

Also battery life over Switch 1 is it 3 hours still for Switch 2 then better models again?

Joycons and Pro Controller life, better batteries? We will wait and see.

@Member_the_game they've been doing the same thing with Xbox for awhile too. It's like, PS is selling way more consoles than Xbox, there is no reason to be insecure. Sony's been making awesome games. Everyone is doing their own thing and has different value. Console tribalism makes no sense to me. I'm not sure how genuine the stuff is tho, Idk. Gaming journalism is in a rough spot atm.

All that being said, DK bananza and Mario Kart World looked awesome. F those game prices though, I think this could effect the whole industry.

I guess my point is push square should be for ps enthusiasts but loving PS doesn't mean everything else is has to be bad.

Did you pull that 5GB RAM figure from thin air? Leaks of the mainboard and devs say it's 12GB. As if it would only be 5.

it says the switch can do 4k but thats a lie it can only do 2k max at 2560x1440p

@Member_the_game Honestly, to me, their articles don’t come off as defensive, per se. They may be looking at it from a more Playstation perspective, but thats only natural.

This particular article, while hilariously incomplete, just seems like a placeholder. And while some may find it a weird comparison. I think they just want to inform the PS audience of what the Nintendo hardware consists of, since it is one of the big 3 (consoles). But since they’re a Playstation centric website, they probably realised it’d be weird if they made an article purely focusing on Nintendo alone so they came up with this 🤷🏻‍♂️

Surprise the PS5 is more powerful..

The Switch 2 is about the same as the PS4 Pro handheld, more powerful than the Steam Deck, and just under the power of the Xbox Series S when docked. But how that relates to the games who knows, what's been shown so far looks very good.

It's actually pretty potent for what it is, and a HDR VRR 1080P 7.9" 120HZ screen is good too.

The comparison of the switch 2 to ps5 is valid because of the price point... If theyre going to charge ps5 and xbox one prices, it better perform like one. Plus the games high as hell. Even the demo game is $10... Gotta wait to see how well and what games run on it, as well as more concrete specs come out though.

Thank god you included the dimensions! I often find myself playing my PS5 in my hands with my DualSense under the TV.

This is like comparing a toaster to an oven. Both are food preparation devices but the use case of each is so radically different a direct comparison is utterly meaningless.

12GB RAM is a massive improvement from Switch 1's 4. Sounds like the CPU and GPU are much more capable as well. Exciting stuff!

@ButterySmooth30FPS Technically 9 reserve for developers which to me is a mistake, 3 GB just for Gamechat is crazy. Many will not use that feature, I personally would prefer to disable it and remove it from my sight.

@Juanalf 9/3 split is still worlds better than the first Switch's 3.2/0.8. The eShop will probably be the first noticeable UI improvement with nearly 4x the RAM available.

@darylb24 I see that now, it was originally rumored to have 5 which doesn't even make sense from a system integration standpoint!

So the Switch 2 is basically a PS4 Pro Lite as 3GB of that RAM is not for the games. Tbh I'm fine with that, I'm mainly in it for the Nintendo exclusives as I have my PS5 for third party games.

it falls in between a ps4 and ps4 pro. not much else to say about it really. people got overly excited when they saw cyberpunk running on it haha. it will be severely compromised and the worst platform to play the game on...which was the same story with the witcher 3 on the og switch.

Like always the Switch 2 will be an exclusive only machine, the PS6 is like 2 years away and they make something much weaker than current gen.

There is a big gap between a switch 2 and PS5 let alone a PS5 Pro.

Switch 2 handheld is only 1.7 tflops and that is what a developer has to programme to.
It’s a tiny bit of power really.

It’s a shame game chat on switch 2 that is a system available feature takes up some memory and resource, that would have better used in games.
Only a small minority will really use game chat in the end, totally wasted on me, would rather that resource get used on games.

If you are going to compare the two, at least put 2 things side by side that are comparable. There's no comparison on how the GPUs might stack up. You're using different measurements of bandwidth for the RAM speeds, you're randomly comparing ARM and X86 cores with no explanation of how they might compare, likewise with the GPUs.

This is just a list of random tech specs that are entirely separate from each other, not a comparison.

@Porco - I think you miss the nuance that it’s impressive because it’s a handheld, not a dedicated console. Even if the Switch is producing output comparable to a PS4/PS4 Pro that’s sufficient for 1st party games and good enough to get plenty of ports. I will always own a Nintendo console and a PlayStation console, so I don’t mind if Switch 2 is under powered.

Now that the final specs are known, I fully expect a second Series S for developers.

Fortunately, Chinese and Korean developers seem to be completely ignoring the Switch 2.

and anyone who thinks that GTA VI or Witcher 4 will appear on it will have a rude awakening.

Don't care. What matters is the games, always the games. And there will be great games on both Sony and Nintendo consoles. Win win.

What a pointless article. PS5 Pro is the most powerful home console ever made, and Switch 2 is a handheld. Comparing them is about as useful and insightful as writing an article about "FULL SPEC COMPARISON - 2026 AUDI S4 AND 1908 FORD MODEL T."

For the record, the Switch 2's CPU is 4 years out of date already. By comparison, the XSX and PS5 CPUs were finalised the year before the consoles came out. So that presents a problem for multiformat games. It's a weaker CPU even if the console had come out 4 years ago. When the PS6 comes out in, say, 3 years, it'll be a not great CPU that's 7 years out of date.

Also even though it supports VRR in handheld, the HDMI output for docked doesn't. That's a weird choice by Nintendo.

@ElkinFencer10 People use the "it's a handheld" defence, which is okay. They said the same for the Switch. But that does mean that Nintendo did so badly they dropped out of the home console market with the Wii U being their last belly flop into that arena. I don't think Nintendo fans would accept that, though.

@Matroska I mean, I'm a Nintendo fan first and foremost, but that's just a fact that the Switch is, at its heart, a handheld. Any hybrid console is; you can make a dock that outputs HDMI for a handheld, but you can't turn a home console that requires AC power into a handheld.

I think the Cyberpunk port will be a very interesting showpiece for the capabilities of the system. It already looks so much better than The Witcher 3 did on Switch 1, so that's encouraging.

Ultimately, it seems like it'll probably be powerful enough to run 95% of games, with unoptimized games and CPU hogs that can barely run on the home consoles not making the jump. And, of course, I expect Nintendo's own developers will make it sing. Still a little wild I'll be able to play Metroid Prime 4 at 4K/60 on official hardware lol

@Juanalf yup, agreed. i guess when people view it through the lens of a nintendo handheld, nintendo-only gamers got overly about cyberpunk being on the switch 2. but to normal gamers who own a decent PC or a playstation console, there isn't much to get exceited about there.

@mattitudemf i suppose if the switch 2 had launched a few years ago i would agree with you. but we are in a post-steamdeck and rog ally world now... been there, done that. the novelty has already worn off. it's unfortunate that nintendo is so late to the party. ultimately, the switch 2 port will be the worst way to play the game, even taking the other handhelds in the market into consideration so i'd argue there isn't much to celebrate there. ok, i'll give the benefit of the dobut that the switch 2 port might be on par with the steamdeck performance wise, but remains to be seen.

No, it was pretty evident with what the Switch is, that they wanted to do that sooner, but there simply wasn't the tech there yet at a price they wanted to pay. So instead they opted for a go between before they could do so. Considering too, they were recovering the 3ds.

The Wii U pad being rather simlar to the switch with Joycons is highly unlikely to be coincidence.
