@Blaze215 You can't really approach the PS5 Pro from a mindset that PSSR is a negligable improvement. It's kinda the entire point of the machine. We don't know how well it performs yet, but if it's closer to DLSS than FSR, it's anything but negligable.
Judging from your comment, you're not particularly interested in PSSR, as is your right. It just means you're not really the target audience. That's what I mean by value being subjective, if you're not interested in what the machine offers, you're not going to see much value in it, while others might.
Same with the argument that a PC does more. There is no question that is true, but there are a lot of people out there that might not need or want anything more than a gaming machine and use a phone, tablet or lightweight laptop for all the rest. Again, subjective value.
It might seem like I'm defending the PS5 Pro here, but I say all this stuff as someone who doesn't want to buy it at the current asking price. At roughly €150-200 less, I probably would, but as it stands it's a bit steep for me personally.
@Blaze215 Not to get into the whole value argument, because I think that's ultimately just really subjective, but that article doesn't really present a compelling case.
The PS5 Pro's biggest selling points are PSSR and its ray tracing capabilities. To then present an AMD GPU that lacks those selling points as an "equivalent" alternative, is at least misleading.
@Northlander Or it just means that PS4/5 games you already own will continue to be playable, just like PS4 games on PS5. Though I would not at all be surprised if the PS6 is discless by default with an attachable drive sold separately.
@Medic_alert Holding the platform and taking a cut on all transactions works today, but there is a potential future where that could change. After the Epic vs Apple case, it is not unthinkable that the likes of Sony might have to open up their own platforms to third party stores at some point.
Of course, that would have much wider ramifications - subsidised hardware would surely be a thing of the past - but it's easy to see why Sony would want a live service cash cow of their own in such a future.
@Nei I don't get it either, I must be living in some alternative universe where the PS5 is drowning in great games. Both this year and 2023 have seen numerous fantastic releases on the platform. Yes, first party output is not where we'd like it and yes, some of the best games are available on other platforms as well. But does that really matter? You're still getting that entire catalogue on your PS5.
Just these two years combined we've seen (take a breath): Spider-Man 2, Baldur's Gate 3, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Alan Wake 2, Jedi Survivor, Dead Space, Lies of P, Diablo 4, Final Fantasy 16, Armored Core 6, Sea of Stars, Cocoon, Resident Evil 4, Hogwarts Legacy, Octopath Traveler 2, Remnant 2, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, Black Myth Wukong, Astro Bot, Helldivers 2, Dragon's Dogma 2, Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Shadow of the Erdtree, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Tekken 8, Animal Well, Balatro, ... and, well I'm going to stop now.
"PS5 has no games". I guess if you don't like any of the above, but then maybe it's time to switch hobbies.
@GeeForce There has never been a mere 2 month gap between the announcement and release of a new generation. The PS5 was released 19 months after it was first announced, thought that was a longer gap than usual.
What you are suggesting is so far removed from the spirit of the statement you quoted that it loses all meaning.
@GeeForce It says it could revealed then, which first of all is complete speculation and seems incredibly unlikely, and secondly revealed is not the same as released.
Christ, this comment section is utterly miserable. Feels like people only visit this site to complain these days. There are still plenty of great games out there people, maybe try playing some of them?
This one felt a bit easier than usual, or maybe it's just because I've played most of the games on there. I think it's even the first time I've had a passing grade!
@CielloArc They said they wouldn't have major IP releases in 2024, that doesn't mean they can't show something for 2025 yet. In fact, if they're releasing something major in the first half of next year, this is the time to start announcing it.
@Beerheadgamer82 Tormented Souls is a nice throwback to PS1 era classic horror survival, something you don't see very often anymore. Hope you enjoy it, I did!
@OthmaneAD How can anyone say they're not a great studio? That is madness. Publishers of indie gems like What Remains of Edith Finch, Outer Wilds, Neon White, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes and so many more.
They might not have made a name as a developer, but they have perhaps the greatest indie publishing track record of all, together with Devolver.
This would be horrible, Annapurna are one of the best indie labels out there. It just seems to be one terrible blow after another in the world of video game studios these days.
I'm all for taking the piss out of it, but couldn't they find some, I don't know, funnier jokes? I feel like the internet has exhausted its meme game. Diminishing returns indeed.
@RiverGenie Of course, anyone can have valid reasons not to buy it, be it a matter of personal taste, financial situation or anything else. And no one should have to justify that decision.
But collectively, enough of us should be buying games of this quality. If not, we'll need to accept that we're not giving companies any incentive to create games like this or diversify their library.
I remain hopeful that this figure is not representative of a broader narrative though.
@StylesT No reason to call them mongs. If they want the product and they're happy to pay for it, then I wish them all the best with their purchase. There's nothing inherently wrong with this, it's just not particularly accessible for the average consumer.
@Czar_Khastik I thought you meant the direct store, but after checking a couple of the biggest external eshops here, they're all at €139 as well. That's actually pretty surprising as these are usually cheaper than other direct stores (Samsung, Sennheiser et al), but in this case clearly not.
@Luna-Harmony I don't know where you got that information but the detachable drive comes with its cover plate included. The situation is bad enough as it is, no need to make it worse.
You could probably make a good case for the price by considering what you're getting, the current cost of components and the fact that they're not really drawing in new customers and thus not subsidising the cost like they usually do.
However, the problem is that, despite all that, it isn't very palatable to the overwhelming majority of customers. To the point where you have to wonder if this entire endeavour is even worth the R&D put into it.
Maybe there is a market segment out there that makes it all worth it for Sony, but it feels like they're also damaging their own brand a little bit in the long run. Or perhaps that's just because we're all part of this bubble that cares about this stuff, while the vast majority of gamers simply doesn't give a toss.
@PuppetMaster Obviously no chance that the PS6 will be 300-400 USD, but I do think the 500 for PS5 was pretty reasonable. That's what both the Xbox One and Series X launched at in 2013 and 2020 respectively. We can only hope that component costs start decreasing in the next few years and we start seeing some price cuts. If not, I fear for what the next generation is going to cost.
Regarding the Switch 2, I wouldn't be surprised if this too will sell for more than you'd traditionally expect from Nintendo. Even at lower specs, they can't escape the economic reality and getting everything into a handheld device certainly doesn't make it cheaper. The current climate for electronics is just really, really bad.
@PuppetMaster I think there's a significant difference between offering an upgraded model at a premium price and setting the price of your next base model that high as well. With PS5 Pro, they're not trying to get people to buy into the generation, that is done through the base PS5. The PS6 is a different story. Then again, the PS3 lauch happened.
To be fair to him, that bit at the beginning about not adding staff too quickly is sound advice. A lot of the post-covid lay-offs probably could've been avoided if companies hadn't done that.
@LordAinsley Apparently having a woman as main character who isn't hot enough by their lofty standards is now DEI according to that lot. Or whatever else they'll come up with.
Lost your livelihood? Just go chill on a beach for a year! Here's an exec that clearly cares about the wellbeing of regular employees. Who wouldn't want to work for a generous boss like that?
Spare a thought for those poor shareholders. Breaks my heart that they should have to miss out on that third property they've got their eye on, but fortunately a quick staffing optimization might set things right.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner Absolutely agreed. You can try to avoid spoilers as much as you like, but when they're so obviously visible on PushSquare's front page, it's just impossible.
PushSquare, this is just disappointing stuff. Saying stuff is NOT included is just as much of a spoiler as saying that it is included. You could've handled this a lot better.
@Rodimusprime1313 How did you come to that conclusion? Since the launch of the PS5, we've seen new entries in the Horizon, God of War, Spider-Man, Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank and Astro IPs. And I'm not even counting non-PS Studios games that are still technically Sony IP, like Helldivers and Sackboy.
He's saying what Playstation fans want to hear, but does he truly believe it himself? I'm not convinced, but the next year or so will tell us a lot about the future direction of PS Studios.

If you're being defended by people like former Blizzard exec Mike Ybarra and now an EA exec, you're probably doing something wrong.
Re: PS5, PS4's Long Awaited Skate Reboot Will Launch in Early Access Next Year
