Yes, you read that right -- Capcom's beloved Ace Attorney series is making the jump to PS4 with Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy. Releasing in early 2019, the game packages the first three titles together, marking the first time the courtroom visual novel series has been released on a PlayStation system.
Playing as the eponymous Phoenix Wright, a young defence lawyer, it's your job to defend your clients from false accusations regarding various murder cases. As witnesses make their statements, you'll need to measure up what they say with evidence you've collected to uncover the truth. The remastered trilogy is set to feature both English and Japanese versions, too.
Are you pleased to see Ace Attorney coming to PS4? Will you be playing the trilogy when it launches next year? Swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth in the comments below.

interesting, the series is very much geared towards a handheld so i'm interested in how they will be on a console
I’ve always heard good things about this series and have wanted to play it so I’m pretty excited to have the chance now
Wonder what price it will launch at, but I can't wait to finally giving these a go !
What????? Yes!!!! These are amazing games. Definitely up for this. Never thought they would lose exclusivity. But then if final fantasy 7-10 are going to nintendo and xbox, anythings possible. Rubbish these wont make vita too. These are definitely better suited to a handheld.
The hell? I always thought they were funded by Ninty, never given em a go hopefully they'll be a demo for it
Capcom isn't pulling its punches this generation! I've always wanted to give these a try, but just never got around to it. This is the perfect opportunity
Seeing Ace Attorney on a PlayStation based website is weird.
Anyone who has yet to play these, do yourself a favour and pick them up. They are amazing, like so so good
Might seem these are better suited to a handheld but as long as he controls are right, great games.
CAPGOD
I've played the Phoenix Wright games to death, so it looks like I'll be playing them again.
I love these games more than I can put into words. Absolutely incredible characters that you'll get really attached to and addictive, page-turning stories with lots of twists and turns. Hopefully they sell really well and this is a test for a new game coming to PS4.
@Rob_230 Well FFVII came out on PC back in the 90s and the Ace Attorney trilogy has been on iPhone for years, so neither one recently lose exclusivity, to be honest.
This is excellent news. I've always wanted to give these games a go but never owned the relevant hardware to play them.
I love those games and will happily play them again!
Crazy, does anyone know whether these are the first gba games to get ps4 remasters? (I know the first western releases were ds, but still.)
Glad these will be available to new people for the first time. Endearing characters, interesting cases to solve, great localization.
Excellent games, I really enjoy them. I've played the first two within the past year, and I've got the 3rd one still to play on my 3DS, so there's no point in me getting this PS4 version.
@Rob_230 @Matroska true not to mention FFVII has been out on Mobile for ages too
besides Sony only ever had Console exclusive rights as they were co publishers of those games but there was a time limit on that and it had to run out before Square could release them on other consoles
Yes I'll be getting this, I played ghost trick and the other capcom visual novel like this on my smartphone (forget the name, it's like ace attorney) and I really like it, it's just playing it on phone is not a good experience and the save file usually gone when I change my phone.
@FullbringIchigo they have already been on wii
@manu0 really, i must have missed that
@FullbringIchigo Yeah they were digital only on the Wii, sold as WiiWare. I heard that they weren't good ports though. But still unless you have a Wii with some Wii points already on it already you can't get it now.
Ah, it’s coming to Steam too...that’s the next best thing to a Vita release for me. Gah, I wish this was on Vita!!!
I’ve played 1,2 and half of 3 before getting hopelessly stuck (not even a walkthrough would help), so....I’ve got some unfinished business to attend to! Hilarious games and highly recommended (so long as you don’t mind tons of reading)!
i've always wanted to play these games but i will do so on my ds. they will play better on a handheld device with two screens.
everyone should play ghost trick: phantom detective... from the creator of phoenix wright. it was fantastic in its own right (no pun intended)!
One of my favorite series from Capcom. I always wonder if this series would jump from Nintendo systems some day.
I still have these games on DS, so I would like a new game to be honest.
I'm sure Nintendo is up in arms about this
@NomNom i don't see why, Capcom are the both the Developers and Publishers of the series, Nintendo has nothing to do with them
Good job Capcom.
I will tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth: I'm going to play these games.
Oh my God!! thank you!! I have been awaiting this ever since I first remember hearing the series mentioned as being similar to my favorite teen visual novel murder mystery. While the possibility of this upcoming visual novel series being greater than my personal choice, Danganronpa, less than zero, (that is less than 0% of a chance Ace Attorney>Danganronpa), the genre is always surprising and in need of some more classics. Ace Attorney is very welcome by me nonetheless.
Ah, good. Release it on systems people care about.
@KingdomHeartsFan Aww. You missed the third game, which is almost universally considered to be the best in the entire series.
Dual Destinies was decent, but definitely not up to the standards of the original trilogy.
All put this on the list then, right after KH3 and RE2 and... hmm
Could someone please tell me why a game would be better on a handheld than a console. I see alot of people say this, I have owned alot of handhelds and always thought, I wish I could just play this on my tv.
I've never played this series before but been wanting to ever since the anime aired.
Still using those compressed DS samples, I see. So glad to see this HD remaster isn't exclusive to the visuals...
@ellsworth004 Because it's easy to pick up and play anywhere. If I want to play a PS4 game, I have to carve time out of my schedule to sit in front of a TV. It's a hassle. Which isn't to say that games aren't ever worth being hassled over, but it's absolutely inconvenient in many different living and work arrangements. Portability massively increases the convenience factor of gaming for many people, myself included.
Some games are better with portability for diferent reasons. Long RPGs are nice on portables because it's easy to dip in and out and make gradual progress here and there. Grindy games are also really nice on portables, because you can kind of casually grind while doing other stuff. That sort of thing is annoying on home console where you've already made time sacrifices to play the game and it occupies your full attention.
Handhelds reduce or eliminate much of the friction between wanting to play a game and actually playing a game for many of us.
Of course, some games (Uncharted, for example), don't benefit much from being portable, and sometimes it's nice to play through big story moments on the TV. Which is one reason why the Switch's hybrid design is so nice.
My backlog on portable consoles will always be smaller than it is on stationary systems because the former is much more convenient for me, and that massively factors into my enjoyment of a game as well.
@KingdomHeartsFan Since you talk about liking the universe and Edgeworth, have you ever thought about playing Ace Attorney Investigations? Sounds like it'd be right up your alley.
@KingdomHeartsFan Well, yes, but Capcom never localized the second one, so the only way to play it in English is via a fan translation. It's easy enough to find a patched file of the cartridge floating around online.
Not played any of these games before, if the PS4 version is any good I might pick this up. Always good to try things out of your comfort zone.
These games are great, I highly recommend them. Only a Japanese developer could make games like this. The characters, settings, the whole detective/courtroom mechanic. Excellent stuff.
I need more Gumshoe in my life!
Will grab this on switch for the portability. Let's hope they don't add Micro transactions. £5 per objection 🤣
