Fear not, collect-a-thon fans: the removal of Assassin's Creed from publisher Ubisoft's annual release schedule means that there's space for a different kind of tower climbing, and Watch Dogs 2 may just fill the game's space. The French publisher has confirmed that Aiden Pearce will return prior to April 2017. Well, to be precise, no one actually mentioned the capped character, so let's hope that the firm's, er… Put a cap in him?
No other details about the game were announced, but you can almost certainly expect some information at this year's E3 – if not earlier. Either way, it seems like this is going to be a transitional year for the publisher: "Ubisoft will launch a very high quality line-up, including For Honor, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands, [and] the next instalments of Watch Dogs," a rep said during a financial call.
This author wasn't the biggest fan of all the smartphone shenanigans in the original Watch Dogs, but Ubisoft has proven in the past that it's excellent at taking an idea and evolving it – Assassin's Creed 2, anyone? As such, we're eager to see which direction it takes with Watch Dogs 2. The question is: are you, too? Bark your opinion in the comments section below.

Sammy, if Aiden looked like that, I would have definitely purchased the first one, and obviously this one!
Funny how I have literally 0 interest in that "very high quality line-up".
Eh if it had more stuff to do with the phone I'd be down I guess, overloading things to blow people up was fun.
Hopefully it will be better this go around. If this is just a way to pad their pockets with AC on vacation, I'll just go back to wishing for a new Rayman, then.
I'm sure this franchise has much more potential than just being run of the mill.
Didn't mind Watch Dogs at all, but part of the reason I liked it was because it was relatively early in the PS4's life - it stood out a bit. If it released now, I think I'd find it way more boring.
Hopefully the sequel can build upon it and isn't just a bigger Watch Dogs.
Can't wait for Watch Dogs 2, and I hope Aiden Peirce is the main character again, never understood the hate ppl had for him.
Only game in that high quality line up In looking forward to its South Park. I think it's time Ubisoft did something original again.
@hYdeks
For Honor is a new IP and the concept sounds interesting. Obviously we need to see more though.
For Honor (with single player yay!) is the only game from this line up that I really want.
For honor is what I am waiting for.
Forgot about Wildlands looks awsome to.
I actually really enjoyed Watch Dogs. From what I have heard, Watch Dogs 2 is supposedly going to be based in San Francisco. I believe the second iteration will actually be alot better with more people enjoying it this time around.
Im also looking forward to, For Honour, Wild and Ghost Recon. Im not a fan of South Park so I couldn't care less about that game. I have heard good things about South Park Stick of Truth (or whatever is was called) but im not into turn based RPG's. Can't wait to see and know more about Wild as it blew me away the last time I saw it.
I liked Aiden Pierce, but his character definitely had room for improvement. Maybe he'll be different this time around, and maybe you could switch between playing as him and T-Bone, maybe Jordie too.
@sinalefa NX port in 2018?
Kind of suprised it's getting a sequel, I though the game was pretty good but felt I was in the minority.
ehhhh, the first game felt like it was designed by a bunch of executives in a boardroom rather than actual video game designers
Let's hope aiden gets thrown under the metro.
@rjejr
Is NX the next PS4?
Please no, burn this fudging franchise and pee on its grave.
@AyeHayley Stick to the lighter cusswords, please - TheMightyPunram
I really enjoyed watch dogs - but cant really remember anything about it other then the fashion in the game.
Aidens various coats were awesome, one outfit was a black and yellow ensemble and looked really trendy. I wouldn't mind a couple of the outfits he wears for myself.
@WARDIE
I'm looking forward to Watch Dogs 2 as well. The first was not a great game but it wasn't horrible either, the problem is the initial reveal was awesome and because of that the game got hyped to seriously high levels that unfortunately the developers couldn't reach. I'm hoping what happens here is similar to Assassin's Creed. The first was hyped beyond belief but was only a good game, however with some extra time and correcting mistakes learned from the first, AC 2 was among the best games last-gen. No reason WD 2 can't follow the same path.
@Gamer83 That's one of the problems with gaming today. Games can get too hyped, which is dangerous because peoples expectations are then often too high. It happened to Destiny too. Hello Games dev Sean Murray said he was worried about the hype surrounding No Man's Sky simply because of people allowing their imagination to run away. He called the hype a double edged sword. While its great that people are really excited about your new IP, it can also lead them to think about features that aren't even in the game and as such they end up feeling letdown when they get the game and it wasn't what they had imagined. But I guess its easy to allow your imagination to run wild with a game thats literally the size of a real galaxy.
I definitely believe that Watch Dogs 2 will be an amazing game simply because of how much potential the first game had. It had something to really build on and im sure Ubisoft saw that, just like with Assassin's Creed as you said.. Also Ubisoft have had plenty of time to get familiar with this generations hardware. I just hope that what they show at this years E3 is what we get when WD2 releases next year. People have come to expect downgrades from Ubisoft these days. Just like what happened with The Division.
For all the grief people give to Ubisoft, they definitely have a good library of games these days. A broad selection too.
@wariowarewolf That's a brilliant description of how I felt about Watch Dogs, too. Spot on.
Well, I haven't even played the first game and I am not sure if I will ever play it
@sinalefa NX is the next handheld, so DS4
I know a lot of people did not like Watch Dogs but I played it a lot more than I played GTA V. There are a few things they need to work on for the sequel but in general it was an enjoyable game. Looking forward to seeing what they do with two.
I actually quite enjoyed WD despite Aiden Pearce being possibly the worst character in any game ever. What an un-likeable, hypocritical moron. I hope he's been replaced for the sequel or had a drastic personality change if not!
I still have yet to finish Watch Dogs and probably won't until I have no other games stories to complete.
I quite liked Watch Dogs, even though it got a little long in the tooth by the time I'd finished it. It might have helped that I've lived in Chicago, which added a level of personal interest. I would love for them to get away from the standard Ubisoft formula - climb/hack/attack a spire/cell tower/base to open up new areas get's a little repetitive after playing a bunch of Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Watch Dogs.
I mainly hope they either make Aiden more interesting/likable or have a different and more engaging protagonist.
I enjoyed the first game. Not mind blowing but a solid game for the early ps4 adopters
