Topic: Would you ever buy an xboxone just for an exclusive?

I doubt I'll get one just for one exclusive. If there was a whole bunch of games, that may be a different story, but I can't justify another console when I already have a PS4 and Wii U. That's not to mention my 3DS and Vita, which I've neglected recently.

I don't think I'd ever get one to be honest. There are so many games on the PS4 that I'm yet to play it'll keep me going for years. If there was an exclusive it would have to be something utterly amazing that towered over anything that was possible on the PS4. I know a few people with xBones and to be honest, all they seem to play is Halo, CoD and Battlefield. I haven't seen any exclusives that have made me even sniff at an xBone.

Nope because it's microsoft. I can just wait a couple months and buy it for PC.

@stupidget: I know a few people with xBones and to be honest, all they seem to play is Halo, CoD and Battlefield.

That's untrue for the general xbox gamer (although I understand your talking about your friends here) - the xbox 360 had the highest attachment rate of any console ever last gen. It looks like the ps4 will get that mantle if it keeps the pace it has set the last 2 years but as it stands the 360 was the highest. Alot of 360 customers have bought the one.

If there was an exclusive it would have to be something utterly amazing that towered over anything that was possible on the PS4.

Rare Replay, Sunset Overdrive, Halo 5, Forza 6, Backwards compatibility and a better UI say hello. But other than that I'm scratching my head too. Forza 6 and Sunset Overdrive scream buy me everytime I'm in the shop though.

Edit - forgot Elite Dangerous. We need that game on ps4. My PC version is on the erm PC so I never play it (wife and kids use the PC) but would definitely rebuy on ps4. Make it happen Frontier.

I bought a PS1 for Street Fighter Alpha, N64 for OOT, Dreamcast for Street Fighter 3, Wii for Twilight Princess, a Wii U for Monster Hunter 3 & Mario Kart, a 3DS for Link Between Worlds and a 360 for Street Fighter IV...

But I accept I have a problem.

Aside from the Wii & N64, all were bought quite late in their life-cycle, and second hand. All being even, exclusives are pretty much what make me buy a console.

That said, more or less all of my gaming friends and my family are all xbox players - I think just one or two titles would swing it for me. Scalebound looks promising, if they can completely remake their incredibly annoying protagonist. I'm quite a big fan of Microsoft - through my work, and their software and, lately, hardware, I think they're massively underrated. But for the record, I couldn't care less about Halo or Gears of War!

Don't think I'll ever buy a console just for an exclusive. If I did I would've bought the 3DS for Monster Hunter. Though, I do have to say that Scalebound looks pretty cool and its probably the only game on the XBox that I have a slight interest in.

Huntin' monsters erryday.

To me buying any console just for an exclusive seems like a case of more 'money than sense'. I can see how an exclusive can have a big appeal but I wouldn't buy for just that. I would consider its back catalogue and any 3rd Party games that I didn't own already - particularly those that may have some 'extras' although in the case of Xbox they don't seem to have any extra gameplay that isn't available - at most its just earlier access to DLC type deals.
I would also consider the features it offers and of course friends/family that have the console too - particularly if considering online MP or co-op games. Some of the features may require a 'subscription' like online gaming and maybe some of the Apps too so that cost would also be taken into consideration. Its not exactly easy to find £300+ (Console, game and maybe subscription too) especially for something that may not get that many hours invested in it
I haven't been a single format gamer since I was a child and unable to buy my own console. As soon as I started earning myself, I have always owned multiple gaming platforms. Even if I personally didn't 'own' the console (as I bought them for my children) I had my own games for them and there was always multiple options.
Owning both a PS4 and XB1 gives me access to any of the exclusives and take advantage of any 3rd party deals. Often its the 3rd party deal that determines my choice of platform for a certain game. It means I will be playing games like Uncharted 4 and Horizon:Zero Dawn as well as Rise of the Tomb Raider and Scalebound.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

@BAMozzy: I dunno, certainly not a personal attack but you seem to buy the same games for both platforms which to me seems a bit "more money than sense". But of course you have different people to play online with etc. so I understand your point.

I would buy a console for only 1 game, but I've only done it once in the past with my 3DS for Bravely Default. Havn't got anything else for it. But I will use it for one or two games in the future. I've also been thinking about getting an Xbox as I'm really interested the game Below that's coming out. But it's tough for me to justify a console for an indie game. But my surprise enjoyment of Destiny has made me want to play through the Halo games, too..

@kyleforrester87: I only have a few games on both systems and I can see your point of view too. I had my XB1 before Destiny was released and doubt I would have bought it for the XB1 because of the extra content on PS4 - this and the fact that its my most played and in terms of cost per hour (Cost in pounds divided by the number of hours played), my best value and therefore easier to justify in my mind. Even with taking into consideration the overall costs of all content on both consoles and dividing by the time played overall, its costs are negligible at around 5-10p an hour and dropping every week.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is another that I have on both. Historically its a game I have bought on Xbox primarily because of the DLC. I have a lot of friends and in a clan as a result of this and therefore bought it for both.
My Son also has an XB1 and also plays CoD, Destiny etc so it enables me to play online with him too.
The only other duplicate I have is Batman: Arkham Knight. I had pre-ordered a ltd edition XB1 version months before I was able to buy a PS4 and after I had bought it, the ltd edition had sold out so I couldn't change my order to the PS4. I happened to be looking at a pre-order deal (2 for £80 and save £10 for spending over £75) and couldn't help but include my most anticipated 'next-gen' game for effectively £35.
I know I have a few PS3/XB360 duplicates too but a lot of those were games that offered a lot of hours worth and often bought in sales too to build up my collection. A lot of these are also considered some of the best games of that generation too.
More often than not though, I do tend to buy for one or the other. Usually I base my decision on 'bonus' content although other factors like social and (rarely but can happen) costs are also taken into consideration. If all things are equal, I may look at which console has the fewest games to build up that collection.
Personally I feel that Halo hasn't really stood the test of time. The original was incredible in its day but now feels very dated - not just visually but its mechanics too. I also feel that 343 have no idea what made Halo as good as it was. The MP may have been good but the majority of Xbox players bought it for the campaign which at the time was excellent. The percentage of Xbox gamers with God and therefore able to play the MP was small. 343 seem to have stuck a campaign on as an after thought and now seem to switched its focus to MP and trying to be a CoD/eSport MP clone. Halo was always about the Master Chief but the latests very short campaign hardly features him at all. Visually its changed too - it seems more cartoon these days too... Not trying to put you off as I am certain you can make up your own mind but I am very disappointed with the direction 343 have taken the franchise. I bet Bungie are as well but also must feel happy that Destiny is by far a better 'game' and are not associated with the latest Halo's

lol. I do this all the time. I remember begging my parents for a PS2 because of Kingdom Hearts. Then a DS for Castlevania Order of Ecclesia and Pokemon. 3DS for Pokemon. Wii for Twilight Princess.
And when I started buying consoles for myself, a Wii U for Bayonetta. PS3 for Final Fantasy XIII. And I was going to buy an Xbone for Re:Core but my sister bought one and convinced me to get one early so we could play Halo.

I'm planning on buying a PS4 for Nights of Azure. I also have a PS TV. lol. I don't have a gaming laptop or whatever because there's no games I want on Steam I can't get anywhere else.

I honestly considered it for Ryse, because I am a huge history enthusiast and I love Roman history (or alternate history as the case may be). So a really good, fun historical sort of game would probably do it. Ryse just didn't quite look up to scratch, gameplay-wise though.

Or a new souls game. Very unlikely, of course, but if Dark Souls III was for some reason Xbox only, I'd definitely get one, such is my love for the Souls series of games.

Just Rare Replay is very worth it.

I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!

@themcnoisy: Most SNES will be yellow due to the chemicals they used to make them flame retardant. There are ways to clean it though which you can find by YouTubing.

But SNES consoles are not that expensive!

Yeah, the SNES was my first console and I was in love with her!

I did this but only under specific circumstances. A friend of mine was selling his quite cheaply because he needed to raise money and was a bit fed up with it. I bought it and then got Sunset Overdrive (which is bloody amazing). After a little while with the console, I decided it wasn't really for me as the types of games and exclusives aren't my kind of thing, and also the menus are bloody awful. Sold it on pretty soon afterwards and broke even. Good times.

There was a game idea here. It's gone now.

Sooooo.....a little update from my post on the previous page.

I bought an Xbone a few weeks back, yep, just for Halo 5.

The first few days were good enough. Just thought I needed to get used to the controls again after so many hours BF4 and Destiny.
But after a few days the irritations I had with Halo 4 came back again, and after the release of Big Team Battle (my most played game mode in every Halo game) I started regretting my purchase. It wasn't just bad, it was amateurish. How anybody thought it was a good idea to release these fan-made levels with 360 graphics first, on a game important like this, is beyond me.

The home menu is annoying to navigate, the controller isn't all that (360 was far better imo) and the constant (slow) updates....it almost made me feel like it was the PS3 I had booted up....

I got a real good deal with buying my Xbone, so when I sold it, the trip ultimately only cost me 20 euro's. Not bad for a week.

But I really am 100% sure now, no more doubts; no Xbone for me, ever again. The entire system (not just Halo 5) was such a disapointment.

FullbringIchigo

@BlaBlaBla: it's got worse since the big update it just had, the system is really slow now and i'm pretty sure that there is a controller input delay too

yeah it added BC but EVERY game i used via BC has had at least 1 problem be it slowdown, bugs or just pain crashing

my XB1 is now pretty much just a media box for the main family room, just DVD's, blu-ray's and Netflix are all i use it for now

Honesty MS and Sony exclusives don't matter a whole lot to me. Yeah MS has Halo and Sony has Uncharted but I can take or leave them. For me when it comes to Sony and MS consoles I get them for the third party line ups like GTA, FIFA etc. So the main factors for an Xbox and PS are price, extras like apps, and reliability. The only system that exclusives mean alot to me is Nintendo cause let's face it does anyone buy a Nintendo system for the third party line up?

The reason I went with PS4 this gen is honestly MS horrible E3 presentation and all that DRM and always online policy bs plus the fact that it was more because of a device I would never use.

Do I regret not getting an Xbox One, not really about the only game that interests me is Rare Replay and honestly I can get those games other ways. None of the other games interest me that much and while the backwards compatibility is nice, I still have my 360 so yeah.

Maybe at some point I might get one but potable years later down the road when I get it at a retro game shop or garage sale.
