Re: No Xbox Games Are Off the Table for Release on PS5, Says Phil Spencer

zupertramp

@Vaako007 as regards Sony as a business, their focus has shifted considerably in the past decade. Now days a great deal of their revenue is gaming, something like a third I think. And this is the biggest chunk given they have their hands in so many pies, ie financial services, film, music, and of course electronics/hardware.

But I'm not sure if "gaming" includes PlayStation hardware sales or not. I do know they aren't the bulk of the TV, audio, and camera market anymore.

Re: Game Size Not as Important as It Used to Be, Says Yakuza Creator

zupertramp

Agree with @Korgon that both have their place. It's not all that different from other forms of media. In film you have your quick, easy to watch rom-coms as well as your long fantasy/sci-fi epics. It's not really either/or. At least I hope it's not. I like getting lost in a game for weeks (or more) as well as a more abridged bit of fun I can complete over a weekend.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PS5 Pro?

zupertramp

I'm somewhere between waiting and zero interest. Not against owning one but, like someone else mentioned, I'd need to see what new games really justify its existence. Just not that interested in improvements to games already out, as I've probably already played them.

Re: Take-Two CEO Says Borderlands Movie Bombing 'Didn't Hurt at All'

zupertramp

@riceNpea commenter is making the not unreasonable assumption the CEO being so flippant about his intellectual property being a bit of a laughing stock makes it seem a little bit like he doesn't care about it. Yes, he's speaking about the financials but a poor financial return typically reflects something's overall lack of viability/popularity. His nonchalance could be read as betraying a lack of pride is all.

You could also see it as him standing by the games in spite of this cinematic setback. So there's that.

But mainly I think we're all just having a bit of fun trashing a movie whose creators made absolutely braindead decisions along the way and you probably shouldn't take it too serious.

Re: What Is PSSR for PS5 Pro?

zupertramp

@LifeGirl Agreed. I'm even more sold on not buying a Pro lest I feel like a guinea pig. That's just me though; I'm cautious. So I actually very much appreciate the early adopters in this case. The more real-world info Sony can get out of the Pro in preparation for the 6 the better.

Re: PS5 Pro Makes Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Look Like a Whole New Game

zupertramp

@Vaako007 @TheDudeElDuderino I don't think anyone really believes the PS5 will get left in the dust... it's more about the language used in these articles. "Literally melt your face" "A whole new game" This is hyperbole. Harmless hyperbole I suppose but still.

The Pro is doubtless more powerful but talking like it's a generational leap when it by definition isn't seems weird.

That said I always appreciate the job these guys do on this site or else it wouldn't be my go to regarding PS news.

Re: PS5 Pro was a '5-Year Project', In Development Before PS5's Launch

zupertramp

@MrPeanutbutterz do I think the PS6 is in development? I literally acknowledged this refresh was part of that development: "And yes I get that this is technically work toward a new gen..." Sigh.

And why does it seem greedy? It's not. Sony is a non profit and just wants to help us with more options. Their benevolence is particularly off the charts this gen.

Modular configurations don't necessarily prolong game development but if we are taking that position I'm gonna need to point out that a mid-gen refresh does the same.

Re: PS5 Pro was a '5-Year Project', In Development Before PS5's Launch

zupertramp

@MrPeanutbutterz I think we all understand that though. I think it's just disheartening that they could have been putting all their focus on a PS6, but chose a half gen refresh instead. And yes I get that this is technically work toward a new gen machine but this feels greedier for some reason. At this point why not just make the entire console modular and any time a component is improved upon just release it at higher cost, y'know, for the enthusiasts.

Re: Metro Awakening Will Be a Reason to Own PSVR2 This Holiday

zupertramp

@Gator_Rican nah I can see what you mean. and to add to that I sometimes just don't want to put in the effort of swinging my arms around in a game. i'm trying to chill, not exert myself. but yeah, kind of a minor quibble I suppose.

And on another probably unpopular note I wish we could get more VR experiences that aren't first person. These devs act like that's the entire scope of what one can experience in VR. Well I'm sorry but Diablo in VR, awesome. Sims in VR, awesome. Astro Bot in VR, the best! Or heck, imagine some kind of hybrid side scroller VR amalgamation. Like i don't know, experiment a little. Dare I say, be creative. Just taking the same old fps and making it VR is just not it if you ask me. Don't get me wrong, it's cool. But is that it? That's all we can do with this tech?

Re: PS5 Pro Is Not Compatible with PS5 Slim Face Plates

zupertramp

Was pretty excited about plates when the PS5 first arrived and now I couldn't be more over them. Nice work Sony!

Also what's with the know-it-alls coming out of the woodworks on this? Awesome, you knew all along. I mean nevermind they are actually the same size but whatever we're all idiots thinking Sony might throw us a bone here by just lining up clips.

Re: Filming for the Fallout TV Show's Second Season Will Start Again Very Soon

zupertramp

Knowing absolutely nothing about Fallout I loved the series and look forward to Season 2. Didn't expect much from this at all either but I'll give anything with Purnell or Goggins a try and I was hooked after the first scene truth be told.

Also looks like filming for first season ran for about 10 months and wrapped in March '23 so if that's anything to go by we might see this drop mid to late 2026 so I'm not sure I'd say there's anything particularly expeditious about the show's return.

Re: Some Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5 Fans Are Furious It's Not Getting DLC

zupertramp

@Keyblade-Dan yeah tbf to those disappointed or upset, this does feel like a last minute decision and when you consider some, albeit probably a very small amount, of resources went into a PC release that maybe could have been committed to DLC I can see why some might feel let down.

Also let's not pretend like DLC isn't fairly standard for this type of release. So if you know you aren't putting any out, probably a good idea to state that up front which they didn't... most likely because they had every intention of developing DLC but dropped it cause nah, we owe you nothing.

In short just communicate. You're not gonna please everyone but communicating at least shows some effort.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Exec Shawn Layden Says There's Been a 'Collapse' in Gaming Creativity

zupertramp

@Gewertzx "There would be no justification in creating small weird niche products without the massive infrastructure that capitalism provides."

Weird niche products were all gaming was back in the day though. You know how much Sim Ant I played as a kid? Sim freaking Ant. Lesiure Suit Larry. A Puzzle of Flesh (or heck just FMV in general). Games were quirky and weird because, to Layden's comments, there was less money and less risk involved. Not too interested in discussing the pros and cons of capitalism generally but when it comes to this industry I'd say niche games only exist now in spite of capitalism. Certainly not because of it.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered Sounds Like a Ridiculously Good PS5 Upgrade

zupertramp

Probably go in for this at a later time. HFW still feels fairly fresh in my mind; add to that some open world fatigue and I'm just not craving a return to HZD just yet.

Weird to see people dumping on the first though. It was an enjoyable take on open worlds at the time. Writing was solid, combat was fun, enemies were cool... it wasn't without some flaws or retreads but it's still up there with the best of the PS4 generation imo. For $10 I'll upgrade eventually.

Re: One Year On, Plucky PS Portal's Sales Remain Strong

zupertramp

@Kidfunkadelic83 not a problem. though keep in mind, while I don't think of my area as having horrible internet options, there are places with better. and that's probably the deciding factor on out of the home use. if you just want something you can use inside the house without hogging the TV, then you should have no issues.

Re: One Year On, Plucky PS Portal's Sales Remain Strong

zupertramp

@Kidfunkadelic83 I kinda regret buying mine because if I'm not on my home Wi-Fi network the lagginess makes most games fairly hard to enjoy. I consistently struggle to steer in Hot Wheels, often mis-time dodges in Tlou p2, and my shooting average drops considerably in nba2k all because on just about any connection I have there's a great deal of delay.

I did need another controller though and as this works fine at home and can essentially be used as a second controller I guess it's not a complete waste. Just kind of expensive for just that.

Re: Acclaimed PS5 Platformer Astro Bot Really Couldn't Be Selling Any Better

zupertramp

@PuppetMaster I thought I was asking what it was. Maybe my comment came off wrong. Anyway I appreciate the input about the gameplay though (and level design and such).

It's just, seeing some random woman I don't know enjoying it on YouTube, or hearing about how it's a Sony title that sold well among Sony fans isn't really what I was looking for. Just needed some confirmation it's not just fan-service.

Re: Fortnite's Rocket Racing Seems to Be Running Out of Gas on PS5, PS4

zupertramp

Downloaded Fortnite for this but couldn't really get into it.

One problem is the launcher or interface or whatever makes me straight up feel like an elderly old man being handed an iPhone for the first time. Just too much going on and idk wtf I'm looking at.

Additionally, as regards rocket racing, like, why am I learning all these buttons just to steer? Way too convoluted. Went through the tutorial and knew immediately this wasn't for me.

The LEGO game isn't bad though. Also a bit more complicated than it needs to be but I'm probably forgetting how much I had to learn going into Minecraft back in the day that seems second nature now.
