@Nem You're missing my point. The people in charge don't care. They are almost never the ones who suffer the consequences because for them it's all an investment. The higher ups for places like Activision/Blizzard & Sony or most publishers stay employed for years, sometimes decades, despite any financial failures.
I'm not laughing at the failed games over the years, I'm laughing at your ineptitude to comprehend what I'm trying to explain to you. Your insinuation about what I'm laughing at doesn't even make sense in that context since I then named two modern & successful online multiplayer focused games.
I don't think it's a viable strategy, I think that in our modern consumerist society it makes perfect sense why it's playing out this way. That's all I was saying lol. Online games are massive & will stay that way for the foreseeable future. I'm saying this as someone who basically only plays Splatoon or Fall Guys sometimes, I pretty much only like single player games so this crap isn't even my demographic. But I'm not blind so I can at least recognize how big the market is for online games. It's so massive it's a black hole eating itself! Every dev that goes into a studio that starts developing and/or making contracts to develop online games knows the risk of throwing all their resources into a game that needs a live service model to function. Plus people obviously do enjoy games that work like this so I don't see the harm necessarily in games that try to make their own variation. But I digress, none of that stuff appeals to me anyway. I won't fault a huge portion of gamers just because I think they like repetitive games
@Nem That was that the point @Arkham24601 was making, which was who I was responding to. They insinuated that nobody has any interest in online games & it's plain & obvious that's not even kind of true. Several people commented to say they wanted to play this game lol. Online games are extremely popular & it's not a mystery to me as to why companies keep doing this: because the people CEOs use to make a game are of no consequence to them once they get wrung dry from putting years of work into an online-centric game that will likely flop. The millionaires in charge of these things do not care that they burn through money & some talented studios/employees because of the very small chance they have of making it big. For them, it's completely worth it for that chance to become mega successful like the other online games that don't evaporate in less than a year. Some get lucky but it's honestly no different than any other video game at this point, you kinda have to go all or nothing with what you're doing or there's probably not gonna be that many people that will play a half assed game. & if these big wig producers have the money to do what they want, it's not surprising they would try for the online multiplayer market since it is indeed massive.
The claim "there's no room for more" online games is completely wrong & ridiculous to assume. I wonder how much money ZZZ & Helldivers 2 pulled this year, too bad there wasn't any room for them hahaha
@Ludacritz It's just tryhards in the last few months coming out of the woodwork to say how much they hate Elden Ring. I'm not saying nobody is allowed to not like the game (or that the game is perfect), but you know how with critically acclaimed games people like to start really speaking out about it around a year after it releases? That's all it is. The funniest thing about these people is that they all supposedly loved the other FromSoft games but "they didn't innovate enough with Elden Ring" lol. To me it doesn't make sense if you LOVED Bloodborne but really disliked ER, the new game evolved into what it is because of all those other games they made. That's like despising Super Mario World because it wasn't different enough from Super Mario 3. I guess using the soulslike framework & adding a bunch of new weapons, ways to fight, & bosses wasn't a big enough change for these people.
So with these "fans" complaining it gives people who never liked the games the opportunity to talk about how the design of souls games are finicky or "unbalanced". Imo it's best to end the conversation with "if you don't like em, don't play em" & just walk away
I think speculating about it is silly but I'm still way into people talking this stuff up. More than ever these days it feels like making enough of a fuss about something usually can make stuff happen eventually (RIP Spyro & Earthbound fandoms).
I don't know why people are so shook by this strategy lol. It seems like Atlus has big Microsoft money for ad space after all their Game Pass deals. Atlus was already notorious for making trailers with mild spoilers, most of the time with multiple trailers per game.
I'll agree that I personally don't want to know more since I'm very interested in playing. I'm not gonna hate on them for putting lots of their marketing into gameplay stuff for people who aren't as easily convinced to buy a turn based rpg that isn't Pokemon or something. Seeing Morgana on a train in Japan is cute but I think this actually helps show people on the fence (& who don't buy basically anything Atlus makes) that this is a very high quality game.
Completely blown away that people still get in such a tizzy about "censorship" when it's on this level. Even worse than Stellar Blade, this smacks of even dumber people being upset, because we can't ogle pixelated women's bodies with a camera. Are y'all serious? Do people know you can look at naked people for free on the internet? Why does it matter that a video game about zombies has t*ddyvision?
@CWill97 Never gonna happen. I've eaten my words about this subject before but Larian literally never planned to make this game physical. If you're that upset about an $80 physical (only $10 more than the game costs digital, but I understand the shipping is rough), then buy from Play-Asia. It's currently sitting at 59.99, with $10 shipping for where I'm at. There ya go.
@bindiana Hm all I'm seeing is for LRG & PlayAsia. The PlayAsia version has English dub but I know the shipping from them isn't ideal either. For US there's a good chance copies will be sold at Best Buy around the time the LRG preorders start arriving, which is in December.
@bindiana Unfortunately that one's gonna be $50, for the physical version at least. I'm hoping the digital will only be $40 but I might just wait for that one to go on sale.
I really wish there were textbook definitions of "remaster" & "remake", it's a bit maddening to see remakes be called remasters & vice-versa. Honestly, I'm not even sure I know the difference at this point.
Sony ensuring that I remain uninterested in the higher tiers of their service. It'd actually be worth it if they put some legitimately rare stuff on it like Haunting Ground or the Xenosaga games.
@chesheer I was remembering that the physical copies of Shadow of the Erdtree are only for PS5/Xbox Series, my mistake. I'm still not sure why the two games can't be compared, the percentages of people who have corresponding trophies for Burning Shores would still give a decent idea of how many people reached the endgame.
I love commenters acting like this game was supposed to be free or something coming to other platforms... Yeah it sucks there's no upgrade path for switch users who already bought the og but I don't exactly see what the problem is charging money for a new game lol. Of course the point of selling a product is to make money, & it seems really redundant to point out.
@CVCubbington I'll go ahead & let you know that conversations are the crux of doing most side quests. The combat is largely repetitive & secondary to the game.
@GrimWillows Do they? It felt like there were specific reasons a new ES & a new Fallout have been taking so long. Skyrim is one of the best selling games of all time, there was never a rush to make another since they have proven to constantly make money on the one they made a long time ago. No reason to make Minecraft 2 when it's already selling gangbusters (it's not selling THAT good but you get my point). For Fallout it's pretty obvious it was constructed to be milked like live service titles, which unfortunately most people bought into. I thought Fallout 76 was still more hated but I think the majority of that opinion has changed since the updates. After their work on Starfield, I'd be incredibly surprised to see the next Bethesda game not be a new ES or Fallout. I think it's been long enough, but maybe I'm wrong.
@Victor_Meldrew Why 10 more years? With it arguably being more popular than it's ever been, wouldn't you think ZeniMax or Microsoft would be pushing for a release don't sooner than that lol
@Nem MHS2 isn't getting any "upgrades". It'll no doubt run better just like the first game, better resolution & performance, but it's gonna be the same game. It's not like they're gonna change the art style for a port lol.
Commenting to say that if you censor yourself from saying the word "sex", then you're clown shoes, my dude. Also, I hope this lame nontroversy stays dead, I'm so tired of seeing stupid comments on every playstation video that gets uploaded to youtube
Idk why people are complaining about no standard release when a physical release was literally never planned. I know people not in EU are upset that with the shipping it's totaling $100, but when you think about the fact that the game is already $70, it's really not that crazy. If you're really that chuffed about it, import from Japan or something. I've seen it on Play Asia for like $55 or so.
No interest. Saw it late last night for its regular msrp & had no urge to get it. Something like $75 - $125 would be much more reasonable for an accessory.
I'll play it eventually but hopefully deeply discounted. I loved my experience with p5 but I want an actual new story with new characters, not another remix of basically all the exact same themes & character arcs with maybe one or two new things.
@dskatter Thank you for your completely pointless reply. Don't you think that since in BOTH my comments I mentioned it's physically available on Play-ASIA that it's implied if you're not in Asia you'll have to import? I was just trying to help people lol if you don't care then please don't go out of your way to waste my time next time.
@Rob_230 I think it's an exclusive on Play-Asia. Kinda silly but it's only 40USD, which I guess could be worse. Claims to have English options & there will be a patch for English dub.
@Mio_Nakashima Seemed like a reading issue since you thought $25 was $50 somehow. Perhaps you should put more effort into that next time you start criticizing something just because you don't know about it
@Matroska Physical character details don't really impact the personality of characters, period. They can, but it's not really even close to the most important thing when you actually learn the details of somebody. Clearly with what people who've played DMC know about the game, if Dante looked like James Corden, obviously that would clash with lots of the games elements. Just radically judging people how they look without really knowing anything else is just kinda crappy, that's my story & I'm stickin' to it. If you think somebody is an a**hole just because they're old or have a beard or a tattoo or something, you're just stereotyping them.
Got around 18 hours into the first one & decided that I'd probably never get to a point where I gave a crap about any of the characters or the plot. I'm sure he'd give some long winded excuse for why this is okay & isn't bad as it sounds. @Saitama117 at least most of big N's stuff is functional on day one lol. Once again, we're given a very poor port that seemingly had little to no testing to even see if it was playable. How many more years of this, Sony?
