Re: EA Play Subscription Price Is Going Up Next Month

mightyquin

You haven't got until May 10th according to email from EA.

That states "This price increase will not take effect until your next renewal date that occurs on or after 11 June 2024. However, from today [10 Apr], any new subscription purchases will be charged at the new prices."

Annual sub price increase from £19.99 to £34.99 is certainly steep (what would it take for you to call it massive??!), although looking at the £ and $ prices, it looks like the £ one was originally under-priced compared to the other subscriptions - so I suspect there is also an element of rebalancing being done there.

Re: EA Reportedly Writes Off Project CARS, DiRT Franchises

@Beerheadgamer82 Assetto Corsa Comptizione on PS5 is actually pretty playable on controller, and certainly feels no worse than PC1 or PC2 did. Requires a different style of driving to something like Dirt 5 or Grid Legends obviously, but is still playable. I'd avoid the PS4 version though, and that is no longer being supported. ACC isn't as user friendly as some other games, or laden with tracks / disciplines / cars like PC2, but at least is a racing game at heart, unlike GT traffic jam simulator.

Shame they are canning both Dirt and PC franchises though - EA killed off the Shift series originally, leading Simply Mad games to set up Project Cars franchise in the first place, now they have a second shot at killing it ... although Project Cars was already pretty badly wounded by Simply Mad themselves making PC3 an arcade racer (which was prior to EA and even Codemasters takeover) rather than growing on (or even just actually finishing!) PC2

Re: New PS Store Sale Has Some of the Last PS4 Deals Before PS5 Arrives

Not a fan of the new online store
No game names under the icons so difficult sometimes to work out what it actually is (or if its game or DLC), no links to DLC within the game pages, no screen shots or movies, and no longer a wish list so I can quickly check if any of the games I'm interested in are in the sale.

"Thanks to your submissions via our official feedback channels, we have added a number of highly requested features across recent updates – including musical instruments in Red Dead Online"

Really - that's a feature they highlight as being highly requested thats made it into the game?!

Re: EA Sports Would Bring Back NCAA Football in a Heartbeat

mightyquin

@Hengist - technically it's called "Rugby Football" - as opposed to "Association Football" (from which as you pointed out, the name "Soccer" was derived) - so do you also object to the use of hands to lob the ball about in rugby "football" as well as American "football" (or even Australian , Gaelic, or Canadian "football"!) ?!
Most of the original versions of "football" permitted catching the ball to take a mark ... the apocryphal story of William Web Ellis at Rugby school picking up the ball and running with it during a football match places the emphasis on the "picking up the ball" when in fact, that was fine at the time, it was the running with it that was new!

Re: PS4 Is Closing in on 100 Million Units Sold, and It's Inline with the All-Conquering PS2

I think that not making the PS4 backward compatible with the library of excellent PS3 titles contributed to its slow start - this shouldn't be the case with the PS5 if it really is compatible with PS4 titles, as it will have a massive library of quality games from day one, and can market itself as a "upgrade and future proof your ps4" as well as just a "next gen" console.
