@Fiendish-Beaver now I've seen the latest what the steam machine and emulation can do I'll be heading that way I think. Games are much cheaper and you can sail the high seas if you want. No subs to play online. You can literally play all gens on it. I can't see Sony doing any more consoles after the next console anyway, sales will take a big hit I reckon by recent news as well as the cost of the console itself. It will be all done by streaming after the PS6 I reckon but i wouldn't be surprised if a streaming box was released soon after for people who can't afford a £1000 console

Sony only understands money and I see a fare few people are ridiculing its games and the company. Maybe if studios start putting pressure on Sony they may rethink it's position on cancelling physical media. Without Games PlayStation is nothing, the more financial pressure people put on them the better.

If they actually included the whole game on the disc it may have got more sales

Okay but with this recent news has anyone changed from buying digital to physical? I can imagine this news will have had an impact and now more people could be buying physical instead

Imagine if every PS owner voiced their concern over physical rather than arguing with eachother because you've gone all digital. While you might have gone digital not everyone else likes that. The thing is digital stores won't disappear but physical discs will that fellow people collect

I'll just say No business is bigger than it's customers. Who remembers Xbox one's disaster announcement with online check in? They never recovered from that and it still effects them today, I know after that announcement I jumped over to PS4 after my Xbox 360 suffered the red ring of death. If Sony actually believes this won't effect them then sadly they're mistaken. Sony won't be able to handle the financial loss like Xbox did that's for sure

@Furious-Fingers Actually 50-65% buy physical media so that's why Sony should continue making them. The 80% digital figure was including games that never got a physical disc release. Nothing like Sony trying to mislead people for justification eh

@Dogbreath nothing like walking around with your eyes closed because you don't like hearing the truth. Haha do you honestly believe it's not going to effect their sales if the prices being branded around turn out to be true of near to £1000 for an all digital console? I guarantee a large a chunk of people will find alternative platforms for gaming instead or quit altogether. Since I never got a discount for playstation plus renewal on Black Friday I only subscribe the odd month and cancel again with my feedback being cost of living. Usually I would get an annual pass but when you don't get an offer like some people did I refuse to pay full whack

Sony are going full stupid with this decision and they're seeing the backlash now, but let's just see if they've got the balls to see it through eh

Wasn't it revealed recently by leaked information that Playstation digital Vs physical releases are being screwed. According to leaked sales figures, Sony's first party games which got a physical release were no way near 80% digital but more like 35% to 50% but figures are being screwed by including games that never got a physical release

What I will say is their are some individuals on this site making some small minded comments who are ignorant to the fact physical games still has a place and PC stores are different to consoles. I do wonder if we have people on here from the ESA or lobbying groups with some of the comedy comments I've read.

PC is different to consoles and that's the bottom line..

With PC's you aren't locked into a closed eco system. You have multiple store fronts. You can back your games up to disc without any drm depending on store.

Games are much cheaper and will carry on playing for generations.

No subs for online play.

You can self host servers that aren't illegal... Yes ESA

That's not the case with consoles and Sony PlayStation will suffer huge losses by this decision. Them losses will eventually be passed onto customers that still stand by the brand. We're seeing it with the constant price increases with PS plus keep going up.

As a casual gamer myself who owns a PC and multiple consoles this news is terrible, I'm at the point now I'm considering giving up on future consoles, especially if the prices turn out to be true for the PS6. 37 years of gaming with the PS5 likely being the last modern console I own and hand down to my lad in a year or two.

I'm sure if there were much stronger protections put in place for digital ownership people might not be as bothered but too many horror stories in the past and recently shows digital ownership is not great at all. Our current Governments are a mess right now and you can't count on them to do the right thing either.
All we can do is keep fighting and highlighting the issues surrounding digital ownership.

There was only one Bond game that I enjoyed and that was GoldenEye.

@Slayer25c To be honest I don't get much time these days to game with having kids. The last I heard was the themes were removed but Playstation said would bring them back. I haven't heard anything since about it. So are the themes back then?

What ever happened to the quirky edgy commercials that playstation was known for? Now we get the boring everyday action and with noise that causes your ears to bleed

What's wrong with allowing the public to host games locally. If Sony no longer wants to support the servers then they should allow you to host them

@Kraaatos by the time GTA6 is released the PS6 will be soon out. I'll save myself £700 now instead of wasting it on hardware that's going to be surpassed in 4 years time if not sooner

MK and SF have been ripping people off with the most basic characters that should be playable from the start and included on the disc. Bring back the glory days of owning a full game instead of drip feeding characters and charging for them

It would be interesting to see a poll on how many members bought a pro and who didn't buy one considering the back lash it received

I think this just sets a marker now for Sony to charge a damn site more now for future consoles. I can't believe Sony were charging shy of 1k for the 30th anniversary pro, absolute bonkers. They at least never tried to rip people off with the limited PS4

If you think a minimal upgrade over the base model with the disc drive taken away and charging £200 more offers great value then knock your socks off

Imo it's over priced for what it offers. The base price should have dropped and pro could have had slight increase over the base and included a disc drive

Well at least we know the price region now for when the PS6 does arrive. I think the PS5 will be my last console now as the pricing is getting out of a control. PlayStation are going the same route as Microsoft and heading for all digital and wouldn't be surprised if there is no option for discs on PS6

@Mikey856 Haha no mate, I've never welded in my life. I do light aircraft ducting for Boeing and others which we make up using a mesh material and liquid plastic from plaster moulds. Its very boring but easy, the money isn't great. I was just curious how long it would take to learn welding after your comment about the money you can earn but when you have a family to support it's difficult to re skill

@Mikey856 How long would it take a complete novice to get to a reasonable level at welding? It's difficult when you have a family to support. I'm just doing bog standard production work for aircrafts and the money is crap

It's all about control these days with log ins. If you were to end up getting banned then you can say good bye to accessing all your purchased games. "Now do as you're told and fall into line"

Fastest selling game is different to how many units sold. I'm sure digital only has harmed it's full potential. This could mean it's sold 1000 units in a new record time. It proves nothing but when everything goes all digital will be the day I hang up my the current gen joypad and go back to retro

@TechGuyChris what's efficient about using a PS5 for Netflix or Hulu other than ease. It's not efficient energy wise when you can use the TV app or streaming box without the humming of the PS in the background. I never watch anything on the PS5 personally and predominantly use it for gaming as well

When you look back at what movie adapted games they were on the mega drive and snes to today's consoles it's shocking.

It's about time games like this get shown some love and made for the newer gen consoles

Ah Theme park and Theme hospital were pretty good games back on the PS1

Someone on YouTube made the MGS1 intro using UE5 and it's s#&t hot. Now if only Konami weren't so lazy and actually rebuilt the game using that engine it would sell well
