@naruball True, Helldivers 2 doesn’t really offer anything new either, but it had a first installment that many people played, and they could build on that. Hogwarts Legacy is the same; it was the name itself that sold the game. Honestly, I bought both at full price, and after barely 1-2 hours of playing, I got bored. Helldivers is just another TPS shooter among countless others, and Hogwarts, after an exciting start, quickly became dull (at least for me).
Yes, the problem with live service games is that since there are so many of them, you can only really sell one if there's a strong name behind it. This way, even a mediocre game (like Concord, because it is, undeniable) can achieve huge sales because a lot of people buy games just because of the name. Unfortunately, that's how we are. For example, The Last of Us multiplayer would likely have sold in huge numbers, which is why I don't understand Sony.
The only solution for Concord, in my opinion, would have been a well directed and crafted 10-15 hour single player campaign that properly introduces the characters and showcases the game’s universe. After that, the multiplayer part could have been developed, adding additional maps overtime and likely many more people would have bought it, including me.
@naruball I think there are no more than a few thousand people pushing this wave of hatred, but they're present on every forum, under every article, because they have nothing better to do and enjoy this. However, just a day after the release, not even 300 people are playing it, and that's a big problem... Even based on the trailers, it didn't seem convincing, but I gave the BETA a chance, and I quit and deleted it after the second match. Actually, if I hadn’t been flooded with a bunch of articles and PlayStation notifications, I might have already forgotten about it. They’re promoting the game as if it’s on the level of The Last of Us, Spider-Man, God of War, or COD. I guess that’s understandable since they invested a lot of money in it, but that’s probably why it’s getting so much ultra-negative criticism.
@naruball because in the past few months, there has been a big marketing push behind it, and its news has reached a lot of people, and even now, many are writing articles about it (including here), it's naturally getting a lot of comments. I know it doesn't fully reflect reality, but it's clear from the poll here that many people aren't interested at all. However the Steam player numbers speak for themselves. Of course, there will always be those who overdo the criticism which is sad.
Anyway, like I said before: people just don't care. Proof: Call of Duty also gets a LOT of hate on a daily basis but tens of thousands of people are still playing it at the moment.
@UltimateOtaku91 No, people don't hate the game; they just don't care. It doesn't offer anything new, and there are free alternatives at the same gameplay and graphical level. If I'm paying for a multiplayer FPS game, I want top-notch character, gun, and movement animations, along with excellent sound design - like in the new COD MW series, for example. Sadly, Concord is nowhere near that...
Sounds good. A typical Tomb Raider setup, but I think it would be better in a third-person perspective; I'm not really a fan of first-person shooters. However, if it gets good reviews, I'll buy it anyway.
If there were at least a 10-15 hour exciting single-player campaign alongside a multiplayer mode, many more people, including me would likely sign up. But as it stands, in this form, it will be dead within a few months. I hope I'll be wrong.
I'm a software developer myself, so I feel sorry for them, but it should have been clear by the third or fourth year of development that live service games are becoming increasingly disliked (since a ton of them have been made, without any unique concept), and they should have at least started thinking about a short campaign to make it more "sellable"
I have never played the original, so I wouldn't be able to draw comparisons. One thing's for sure: it looks beautiful and well-crafted. If I get a well-rounded and complete story alongside it, I'll be happy.
I don't feel that the remake is unnecessary at all. For someone who is just now getting a PS or has never played it before (PC), it will be perfect. The original still looks good even today, but with enhanced textures and effects, it will obviously be even better. I won't be buying it, but it will be great fun for those who do. It's not mandatory to buy it, so there's no need to get upset or complain.
@nessisonett Yeah, you’ve got to give them credit for that. Most Ubisoft games are insanely detailed and well-crafted, plus they're huge. Hats off in that regard. What turned me off from finishing most of them, though, was the mind-numbing simplicity and sameness of the missions, and yeah... those level-locked areas.
@Malaise I agree, however I played through the second game and even got the platinum trophy. It looked great and all, but it just didn't really grab me. The reality switching was super annoying, and the dimension Alan was stuck in was just way too sick and messed up... There are still a bunch of scenes, locations, conversations and characters from the first game that I remember clearly to this day, but I can barely recall anything from the second one, even though I played it less than a year ago. The storytelling was also way better in the first game, both when we heard Alan's thoughts and when he was reading the manuscripts.
It looks absolutely stunning. Based on the trailer, it might be the most beautiful game I've seen so far. It probably helps that it's not a huge open-world game, which likely made it easier to achieve such amazing graphics and details. I’m curious to see how it performs on the PS5 since it definitely wasn’t recorded on that, despite the SONY logo and all.
I have a Series S and a PS5, but I can't remember when was the last time I fired up my Xbox. Most of the games that are released nowadays are also available on PS5, so I didn't feel the need. Okay, there's Game Pass, but I prefer to own the games I play.
@WizzNL it could be one of the best games of the past few years based on what we’ve seen so far and it hasn’t even been mentioned... Personally, this is what interests me the most.
I am not against the use of AI, in fact, I totally encourage developers to go for it. These days, games have gotten so HUGE (which I believe is unnecessary btw) and complex that some cases it takes almost 8-10 years to release something, and by then, we'll be old and gray. AI can seriously speed things up, so the next Naughty Dog game won't take until the PS7 to come out.
Although I think this graphical implementation is terribly weak for a AAA title in 2024, I believe the biggest problem will be with the gameplay itself. Many may find joy in the lengthy, copy-pasted missions for XP grinding, which add nothing substantial to the story, merely to be able to enter a higher-level area without being killed in one hit / shot, but for me, this is not fun. At all.
@Vorflynn I agree with the Star Wars part, but Black Myth: Wukong is releasing 10 days earlier and I think it will attract many people. Although the marketing behind it isn't nearly as intense (yet, at least), but based on the gameplay footages so far, it looks much more polished and a lot more fun.
Overall, it looks okay, but no thanks, at least not for full price. These 10 minutes showed me so many graphical issues that I cannot overlook in 2024. It looks like an alpha build... one month before release.
It looks good, I'll definitely buy it. I love these interactive movie-like games, I can spend long hours on them because I examine every little detail and read every paper scrap. But I will wait with it because I definitely won't finish Wukong by then, considering my limited gaming time...
@AdamNovice This is true, but it’s also because big studios are always trying to outdo each other by making even bigger games than the last. But honestly, this doesn’t make any sense since most gamers don’t finish these games or even start them because they’re just too massive and often boring. It’d be much easier to create more, smaller and diverse (fantasy, scifi, action, puzzle, adventure, horror and so on ..) games. This way, there’d be more frequent releases, and the profits would be higher since they’d cover much larger audience with different taste. I think the approach I mentioned would be better, but they’re probably scared to make smaller games because they think no one would buy them if they’re only 6-8 hours long...
I tried it but it's just... oh well. It's not that I hate it, it's just that it's yet another run-of-the-mill game. It doesn't show anything new, there's nothing innovative about it. I feel like I played this game several times, just with differently skinned. Okay, I know it's hard to come up with something new these days, but still... Even though it's free, I just can't force myself to download it and give it a go. It just looks so... generic. As a programmer myself, it's sad to see how many work hours went into it, and it’s (probably) never going to pay off...
I'm playing Still Wakes the Deep again, it's a pretty decent game with brilliant voice acting ( though if there were no subtitles, I might not understand it... ). Lately, I'm totally hooked on these small indie games. I've had enough of spending hours farming XP and dealing with level-locked sections in already boring and auto-generated vast open-world games.
@Nepp67 Look, if they tell this already murky story through a few characters scattered across a huge world, and it's like you need pliers to pull the story out of them, that's not really storytelling. I mean, it might be for some, but not for me. The game is definitely more focused on the combat and gameplay; the story is pretty much an afterthought.
I beat almost every Souls game solely for the extreme difficulty and bizarre graphics, not for the story (what story, really?). If they made the game easy, it would become another Godfall and sink into the abyss...
Although I have finished all of the main games in the Life is Strange series, I've never played the Before the Storm DLC. It's at least as good as the rest of them, so I plan to finish it after work today. Tomorrow, I will dive into Still Wakes the Deep. I hope I don't end up with more than one barcode on my pants after playing it.
Just got started with Stellar Blade, so I'm gonna keep playing that. Also planning to check out the Alan Wake DLC. It looks mental, maybe even a bit too much, but we'll see.
Harold Halibut. It's not a game; it's more like an interactive movie, but I'm really enjoying it. If I manage to finish it, I'll dive into Indika. It looks so bizarre that I MUST try it.
The only reason I'm interested in this game is the setting. I'm a fan of anything set in ancient Japan or China. I just hope that the story and the gameplay will be enjoyable too.
@Tomato_Goose you are right but actually it's refreshing to play something on a smaller scale yet of high quality. I've been feeling a bit burnt out from playing these gigantic games. I'm interested in Stellar Blade but I just can't bring myself to play it after finishing Final Fantasy. Currently, I'm having fun with Harold Halibut, and Indika is next on my list. The only big release I'm eager to play day one is Black Myth: Wukong but it's 3 months away...
If this means more, quality games, so be it. I will remain a console gamer since I do not and will not own a gamer PC. I have a PS5 for fun and a MacBook for work. Simple as that.
At this point I don't know if these "fans" want to play the game or watch anime porn. Who cares, really? It's not like they altered the story or something like that...
I continue Alone in the Dark, although it didn't turn out as good as I expected. However, after spending 101 hours on Rebirth, I needed to play something more linear before Stellar Blade because I'm completely burned out. I also bought Harold Halibut, maybe I give it a go if Alone in the Dark is too boring.
@Gaia093 I'm not about censorship either; I just pointed out that there's been an increase in the use of gore recently because now they can realistically do it. In the past, when someone was about to be shot in the head, the camera would just switch to the victim's point of view, and right after the shot, the screen would go dark and things like that. We also got the message this way. But now there's just too much gore, even in games/movies where I wouldn't expect it. Yet when it comes down to boobs, they tend to censor or cover them almost every time. Strange, eh?
@Gaia093 there are unnecessary amount of brutality in games and movies nowadays. They'd rather show a close-up shotgun headshot sooner than a pair of boobs. Yeah, boobs are particularly dangerous to a young, healthy mind.
@nessisonett yeah, I was enjoying it too but then why the open world? Half of the game was driving from A to B to get to the next mission. They could easily just made a cutscene-divided, open-aera styled experience instead of a half gangster-half driving simulator game.
I dunno. I always find it weird when they are trying to force these dragon ball like characters into a 3D world which looks semi-realistic. I mean, they look cool in a tv series but cringy in a videogame.
@lindos yeah, I don't care if it can't support 4K/120FPS or 4K60FPS in most cases but don't label it then. I'm a casual hobby gamer, most games I play looks just fine overall in performance mode for me, two meters away from the screen, on my couch. The main problem is that some games can't even reach a stabile 40 or even 30FPS on a console that promised so much more.
Every... Single... Oneofthem. If I dust off my old PS5 box, which keeps a low profile in the back of the garage, it still boasts some fancy features like 8K, 4K120FPS ect. And we all know what we got so far. I know, it's also the developers' laziness that we still have to choose between quality and performance but at least it would brute force the games to achieve 4K/60, if nothing else...
The only subscription service I pay for is PS Plus because of the multiplayer access... Gaming is my hobby, so if I want to play a game I buy it. Day one or on a sale it doesn't matter, I like to own the games I like instead of renting them.
However I understand that many gamers out there can't afford to buy every game at launch so a subscription service like GP or PS Plus Extra is a good option for them. But GTA+? Come on. April fool's day is two days from now.

Re: Fear Not, PS5 Exclusive Stellar Blade Remains Uncensored in All Regions
@Gaia093 there are unnecessary amount of brutality in games and movies nowadays. They'd rather show a close-up shotgun headshot sooner than a pair of boobs. Yeah, boobs are particularly dangerous to a young, healthy mind.
Re: Rumour: 2K Gearing Up for Mafia Announcement
@nessisonett yeah, I was enjoying it too but then why the open world? Half of the game was driving from A to B to get to the next mission. They could easily just made a cutscene-divided, open-aera styled experience instead of a half gangster-half driving simulator game.
Re: Preview: Sand Land Could Be a Surprise PS5 Hit, But the Grind Has to Be Good
I dunno. I always find it weird when they are trying to force these dragon ball like characters into a 3D world which looks semi-realistic. I mean, they look cool in a tv series but cringy in a videogame.
Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro's 'Enhanced' Label Covers Resolution, Frame Rate, Ray Tracing Upgrades
Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro's 'Enhanced' Label Covers Resolution, Frame Rate, Ray Tracing Upgrades
"What games do you hope receive PS5 Pro support?"
Every... Single...
Re: Red Dead Redemption Is Now Included with Subscription Service GTA+
The only subscription service I pay for is PS Plus because of the multiplayer access... Gaming is my hobby, so if I want to play a game I buy it. Day one or on a sale it doesn't matter, I like to own the games I like instead of renting them.
However I understand that many gamers out there can't afford to buy every game at launch so a subscription service like GP or PS Plus Extra is a good option for them. But GTA+? Come on. April fool's day is two days from now.
