Re: PS Plus Pre-Paid Cards Don't Work, Subs Can't Be Purchased on PS Store

dr_lovejoy

@Condawg42 You are entitled to a refund under the 2015 digital goods act. At point of sale you were not informed that the goods were not usable on existing accounts. They mention you need to wait until June however you will no longer be protected by these laws if the code does not work. As the consumer you are entitled to request a refund. There is a reason they have stopped selling digital cards now because it is not legal.

Example of the card not working come June could be someone brute-forcing card numbers and activating yours (Can and has been done). You will then be out of pocket with no legal right to a refund.

Don't let companies push you around when it comes to digital. I literally just won a case against CDKeys who sold me a key that was used 2 weeks prior to purchase (thanks to steam support for that info). They told PayPal that it was valid at time of sale (they checked) and that I used it or gave to someone else as no one had access apart from me.

PS this is not ShopTo's fault as they didn't know until after and pulled any new sales. However, it is their responsibility to issue refunds and get the code nullified and refunded by Sony.

Re: PS Plus Games for November 2021 Are Available to Download Now

dr_lovejoy

@IonMagi Do you have a link to this as everything I have seen doesn't mention a 4k60 patch for the base game. I'll be especially surprised considering the whole point of the enhanced is "This Enhanced Edition of our survival horror rogue-lite for PS5 flat-screen introduces a dynamic rasterized 4k60 fps Performance mode and 4k30 fps Quality mode"

PS a rival site that lists all upgraded base PS4 games do not list Persistence

Re: DIRT 5 PS5 Gameplay Video Details Next-Gen Enhancements

dr_lovejoy

@MarcG420 That's the thing I wasn't making assumptions (show my comment where I said otherwise, "I hope the Dualsense supports full 3D via the 3.5mm jack although I do wonder the compression used" is not me assuming anything) on anything technical, there's a good chance he just said 7.1 as it is easier for people to understand but we can't be sure as their lead platform is the Xbox based on advertising so they 'may' not put the extra effort in for the audio. I just want clarifications from Sony on how me as a consumer can experience it to it's full potential. Also the situation might arise where developers won't support full 3d and instead 7.1 though. Also to my knowledge Sony are not using Ambisonics, 'Member Ambisonics was used in Dirt 2 etc. 'Member? It's a huge difference to Sony's 5000 channel tempest engine, unless I am missing something.

I'm just going to leave it there as clearly we are in disagreement over what who said what.

EDIT: his reply was directed at me, so your reply to the people he was talking about is clearly me too. But hey maybe I was wrong (but not sure who else you would be talking about). However, my reply (#33) to your sensitive comment was clearly one of putting an end to it and you carried it on with questions and comments.

Re: DIRT 5 PS5 Gameplay Video Details Next-Gen Enhancements

dr_lovejoy

@MarcG420 accept what though? I see your point and never argued it (Ambisonic supporting above and below sound channels ie 3d, doesn't mean people will utilise them), I questioned how you saw people who viewed the video. When my point has been and always will be that I want Sony to explain how we can use this technology, what compression we will get via different routes and the fact like I said 7.1 isn't 3d audio. So don't get upset, and try to change it to a conversation on different technologies. For example why even raise such a question? Did he mention it in the video? I thought you said it isn't a technical video so people shouldn't pay attention? Clearly you are someone who gets a little sensitive I see .

Re: DIRT 5 PS5 Gameplay Video Details Next-Gen Enhancements

dr_lovejoy

@MarcG420 For example it clearly says 4-channel format called Ambisonics B-format. Ambisonic means "denoting or relating to a high-fidelity audio system that reproduces the directional and acoustic properties of recorded sound using two or more channels"

Directional can be 5.1 or even 7.1 sound over 2channels

Re: DIRT 5 PS5 Gameplay Video Details Next-Gen Enhancements

dr_lovejoy

@MarcG420 I really am not sensitive but " He isn’t giving a technical presentation or anything on the sound so people shouldn’t read too much into it." comment on a reply directed at me is clearly implying (maybe you didn't mean me however the reply was at me) others are seeing it as technical. And replying to that is not sensitive, just like your reply to me isn't 'sensitive' (well I hope people don't get sensitive other anonymous internet posts) it's just clearing up facts.

Re: DIRT 5 PS5 Gameplay Video Details Next-Gen Enhancements

dr_lovejoy

@Zeke68 yep, and it’s exactly my hope that will find out this information. I use headphones and purchased the Arctis Pro with GameDac which uses optical. Currently I send audio to the tv via hdmi and optical pass-through to my headphones for 5.1 surround (fake obviously but it’s the highest rated headphones out there). My concern is whether this will support the ps5 3d audio over 2 channels. The Arctis pro supports usb audio on the PS4 but only stereo, so will that be my route 🤷‍♂️. In a way I hope so as the 3d audio only requires 2 channels and the Arctis pro supports Hi-Res audio (96kHz 24-bit) via usb on the pc.

Re: DIRT 5 PS5 Gameplay Video Details Next-Gen Enhancements

dr_lovejoy

@MarcG420 but no one said he was giving a technical presentation! So you shouldn’t convey others comments as such. The comment is clear that the questions refers to Sony coming out and giving details on exactly how to best experience this technology. Usb provides far far higher bandwidth to a 3.5mm jack on a controller. If you have ever experienced the DualShock 4 3.5mm compared to optical out, hdmi or usb it is night and day difference. Also he is a developer on the game so it’s possible the game is only using 7.1 channels. Just because a 3D audio exists doesn’t mean people will use it.

Re: DIRT 5 PS5 Gameplay Video Details Next-Gen Enhancements

dr_lovejoy

@Zeke68 I really don’t understand why Sony hasn’t released information on their 3D audio. Such information as to how users will be able to experience it (USB, 3.5mm headphone jack etc.) should be available by now so close to launch. However, what I did notice from this video was he said 7.1, 7.1 isn’t 3D audio. 7.1 is very flat audio it doesn’t give you any verticality in the sound. It’s why with Dolby Atmos you can introduce speakers up high which is 7.1.4. The PSVR supports proper 3D audio as it’s needed for VR so I hope the Dualsense supports full 3D via the 3.5mm jack although I do wonder the compression used via this means compared to direct USB or WiFi headset (dongle).

PS I do not understand why more outlets like PushSquare aren’t pushing for more info on 3D audio. It is something important for the users, last thing the users want is to get a machine home to find they can’t use the full 3D experience because they have the wrong setup

Re: How to Get a Free PS5 PlayStation Camera Adaptor for PSVR

dr_lovejoy

@Vacuumator yeah that is exactly what I found when looking on Amazon at the time, the didn’t support hdmi 2.0b. So I’m currently rocking 2 female to female hdmi connectors which support what I need (hdmi 2.0b so the full 10bit 4K60 hdr) but obviously still requires manual switching but stops the worry of damaging my PlayStation, psvr box or tv hdmi ports. It’s a lot easier to replace connectors or hdmi cables. It’s still crazy Sony haven’t made a solution for this. They could easily do an Apple and charge a premium and sadly I would pay.

Re: How to Get a Free PS5 PlayStation Camera Adaptor for PSVR

dr_lovejoy

@LiamCroft I’m guessing this is only an adapter for the usb on the camera? I was hoping they would be nice enough to provide a hdmi 2.1 splitter (I know wishful thinking). Having purchased my PSVR at launch I’m stuck with the old pass-through that doesn’t even support my Pro’s 10bit 4K hdr output. I have to keep swapping cables every time I want to use the damn thing as every hdmi switch I have tried never worked (hdcp handshake maybe or they don’t support full 10bit 4K hdr). Also, I don’t think even version 2 of the psvr will support hdmi 2.1 pass through (though I doubt many will be using the extra bandwidth).
So Liam any chance you could drop Sony a message about this oversight? I don’t mind paying for a special Sony 2.1 switch box if it means I don’t need to swap cables and it will definitely work as intended.

Re: You Can Transfer Your PS4 Games and Save Data to PS5

dr_lovejoy

Ps slightly off topic but any chance we can get some info on how PSVR will work? How do we get these special cables mentioned? Will I need to keep swapping cables around to use the psvr like I do currently to be able to get 4K 10bit hdr? <— (I got the PSVR at launch so my one has the old breakout box that doesn’t support 4K 10bit hdr, so on my pro I need to keep swapping hdmi cables.)

Re: You Can Transfer Your PS4 Games and Save Data to PS5

dr_lovejoy

@FedoraTheAura

PS4 game saves will work on the PS5 if it’s the PS4 version of the game via back-compat. If you have a PS5 upgraded version there is no guarantee it will work and will depend on the developers. This is nothing new and is not a Sony only thing. I purchased The Witcher 3 Game of the Year addition on Xbox store, I soon had to get a refund as it does not support the standard Witcher 3 game save (I had been playing on GamePass). It has to do with the format and data that gets recorded in a save. Developers could probably get around this with a conversion tool or a online progress save similar to MMO’s or warfare etc. but that would still not be a guarantee. As for developers having an incentive, I guess if they are offering a free upgrade we can’t complain. But if there is a game you want to play that is getting a free upgrade you could just hold off buying it until it does, that’s my plan with yakuza and cyberpunk. So by the time the upgrade comes out the games will be cheaper, win win.

Re: Sony Has a Mystery Event Planned for PAX Online Next Week

dr_lovejoy

@SirAngry even if it cost $430ish to manufacturer and they sold it at RRP $499 they would still make a loss. There are transport costs, retail profits, warranty costs to add. Though I’ll be surprised if it did only cost $430 to manufacturer considering the parts. The manufacturing cost also won’t take R&D and test units into the equation, this is a huge cost too. Normally when buying anything these costs are distributed over the expected sales numbers.

Re: PS5 Doesn't Have an Optical Audio Port

dr_lovejoy

@NEStalgia <— what he/she/it said! Also with Sony pushing 3D audio via I believe only 2 channels optical is perfect for the job. It’s not just the Astro headsets it causes issues with too but also the award winning steel series arctis pro with dac which all websites recommended to buy. And as many have mentioned not all TVs play nicely with arc audio as you would need another device to convert HDMI audio on the arc output to optical anyway, this will no doubt cause more lag and no doubt more degrading of quality. So you are left with optical from your tv, and I know some TV’s only support 2 channel pass through over that from a HDMI source (Sony 4K 2016 for one, my LG 2018 is fine) which are no good for the steel series game dac which takes a Dolby 7/1 signal to produce headphone surround (which is amazing quality).

Re: As the PS Plus Debate Rages, Sony Registers Record Subscribers

dr_lovejoy

I can see Microsoft dumping live. Remember Xbox is now more a service that covers both Xbox and PC, so charging one customer and not the other isn’t going to look good. Also live and plus were meant to be products to cover the server costs and not a profit making machines (which Sony is treating it like now). And with most publishers using their own servers these days and with crossplay being a thing (playing with pc players who pay nothing) the costs just aren’t there for platform holders to justify live and plus. They also make a ton of money through their stores on their closed platform to cover game download server costs. It’s no different to Apple really.

My personal satisfaction with plus has dropped dramatically. I originally subscribed to these services so I could play games I own online without the worry of servers shutting down (like on the pc, although you can create your own there). But the likes of drive club has shown otherwise. Not many people played it so I can understand it being shut if it wasn’t for the fact I am paying Sony to run the online servers and not to feed their shareholders. And the quality and quantity of plus games have dropped far below what I signed up for. Being a Now customer it’s the same games over and over again. To make matters worse if I have downloaded a game on Now and it appears on Plus I cannot add the Plus version to my library. This means if I stop Now but still have Plus I can’t access that game. (Same with you can’t buy games in a sale if I have downloaded in Now, so stupid). I think next gen I may just go PC and buy a ps5 later in the gen for exclusives when prices have dropped. I think it will be the first time in a long time I have not got a generation console at launch. I have a XOX and gamepass ultimate (so includes pc).

Re: Rumour: Next PS5 Event Pegged for 6th August, But We're Not Convinced

dr_lovejoy

@Cornaboyzzz I fully expect the XSX to end up running a majority of third party games better just like the XOX over PS4Pro (though this time with less of a difference). However, Dynamic Voltage Games are obviously a bit special and better than the EAs, Ubisofts, Bungies and Infinity Wards that they can get twice the power out of a console that has ~10% teraflop increase. The only way this would be possible is they ran at a lower res on XSX and used something like DSLL to hit 4k or it'll be 4k but with much lower shadows, particles etc. But more than likely MS have given them money/help to improve on the game for XSX and use specific MS APIs. And given their own argument on WindowsCentral (GPU power = performance) would mean the PS5 version must run at over 100fps at the same quality. Will have to wait and see, as devs will say anything if enough money changes hands, just look at EPIC and their love of the PS5, that had nothing to do with Sony investing £250m in them (though not much really).

Re: Rumour: Next PS5 Event Pegged for 6th August, But We're Not Convinced

dr_lovejoy

@Cornboyzz "more and more games are announced with better resolution and/or framerate than PS5"

What? Where are these 'facts' coming from? I've not seen a single third-party come out and say XSX will have a higher resolution or frame rate. I can make a 4k60 game on the PS4Pro now, anyone can if you limit your vision. So XSX could be higher but that could also be because they are less visionally demanding.
The difference in teraflops between the 2 is nothing btw. The difference is actually smaller than that between the PS4 Pro and XOX (and this means a lower % difference alas smaller performance gap) and the PS5 is able to stream uncompressed assets at the same rate as the XSX can do compressed so in theory less resources need to be wasted. On top of that 'I' say the best looking/running games have appeared on the PS4Pro in their first party offering. Teraflop != better, a 2070 has a lower teraflop count to a 5700-xt but 2070 wins in real world tests. Watch DigitalFoundry videos if you want more in-depth look. Game engines play a bigger role.
The thing MS has for it is GamePass BUT without XSX exclusives I doubt I will change my XOX just yet.

Re: PS4 Games on PS5 - All Confirmed Upgrades

dr_lovejoy

@S1ayeR74 you mean this list
Halo Infinite
Cyberpunk 2077
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Destiny 2
DiRT 5
Scarlet Nexus
Chorus
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
Yakuza: Like a Dragon
The Ascent
Call of the Sea
Gears 5
Second Extinction
Metal: Hellslinger

Not exactly huge, also most of those will also be the same on PlayStation. Else they are shooting themselves in the foot.

Re: PS4 Game Upgrades on PS5 Will Be Up to Publishers, But Sony Will Offer Flexible Support

dr_lovejoy

I think people forget there is a financial burden to remasters, so remasters shouldn't be free to existing owners as it is a new game usually developed by a new team with a huge cost. And this is what I bet you will see going forward; games made from a set date that are planned to release on both gens with support this feature. Games like Gears 5 is not a remaster but will just be the PC version with the 4k texture pack. But as that is a Microsoft title there is a reason for them to push the feature to sell consoles, EA do not.

As for Bloodbourne (mentioned above), if you want a remaster then no that shouldn't be free. But if you just want the same game with an unlocked frame-rate (and maybe a high texture patch(still cost)) then that is understandable.

Re: PS4 Game Upgrades on PS5 Will Be Up to Publishers, But Sony Will Offer Flexible Support

dr_lovejoy

@carlos82
"And it’s not just limited to games that you purchase digitally; physical discs of Xbox games can  also support Smart Delivery if the developer or publisher decides to  implement it."

This is exactly the same thing Sony have stated. Remember it is the developer/publisher who will take a financial hit from this as they are giving away a free version. As for GTA 5 it is not (currently) on the supported smart delivery list. Actually the smart delivery list is tiny currently.

In regards to upgrading back-compat games, again developer dependant but I very much doubt you will see much of that (maybe a texture pack update). But the sheer fact the consoles are more powerful means a back-combat game with an unlocked frame rate should easily get a boost in frames. This is already the case with games on XOX and PS4 Pro that do not support those consoles natively.

Re: PS5 Reveal Event Confirmed for This Week

dr_lovejoy

@nessisonett "media spun a police officer riding his horse into traffic lights as him being attacked by protestors."

You do know people were throwing stuff at the officers and horses right? The videos are all over Twitter of it. They were mindlessly abusing animals. I'm sorry that is not protesting that is thuggery and animal abuse. So no spin by the media there. If anything the media hide the true violence.
