Here we go again. Following on from Sony's big PlayStation 5 showing last month, the question on everyone's lips has been, when's the next one? With Microsoft gearing up for a Series X game showcase this week, PlayStation fans have been wondering if the Japanese giant will counter with another event of some sort. If recent rumours are to be believed, Sony's planning another show very soon.
Apparently, the next PS5 event will take place on 6th August at 1pm PDT. Many publications are highlighting this, so we wanted to jump in and give our two cents. The trouble with this rumour is that it comes from a questionable source. Roberto Serrano has correctly predicted PS5-related news in the past, but he's also the person that kickstarted all that talk of PS5 pre-orders last week. He suggested Sony would be revealing the price and opening up for orders on 13th July, which obviously didn't happen. With a rocky track record, we're hard pushed to believe what Serrano is saying.
Still, it's not completely out of the question. VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb also suggests we're getting a State of Play in August, as has Eurogamer's Tom Phillips. Sony has said there's more to come, and we fully expect to see another PS5 update from the company in the coming weeks. Given the sporadic nature of its announcements, though, we're hesitant to pin Sony down to a date and time. The truth is, no one really knows for sure.
As soon as we do learn some real information, we'll keep you up to date, as always.

Counter the price and lower the price of PS Plus, If they do that it's over.
There is still time to strategize and I hope Sony is well prepared because this time is different
I predict the 7th and if I win I'll become the insider man who correctly predicted the event 😃
If Microsoft announces the Price of there console I would expect Sony to answer quickly.
Roberto Serrano sounds like a default master league player in PES.
Questionable source? Do you mean like mayonnaise?
Has anybody else noticed the misplaced comma in the announcement picture? I think it should be AUGUST 6, 2020 not AUGUST, 6 2020.
Just another reason to question the reliability of the news.
Depending on the quality of the Xbox show, they may need to respond quickly.
I have it on good authority that there will be an electromagnetic pulse on August 5th at 23:59 which will disable all electronic technology on Earth for 72 hours.
This event will be delayed until August 9th. At the last minute.
@GADG3Tx87 quiet, or the machines will catch on to the plan to prevent Skynet from taking over!!
@Cornaboyzzz. Respond for what.sony always beat x box.ps4 destroy x box.and ps5 will destroy x box again.word up son
Injustice 3, please.
Anyone else a bit sick of chancers on Twitter?
I've been waiting for their teardown video of a PS5. Since the production has been going around already since last month, we might as well get to finally see it.
They have to hit the nail on the head with this one as it’s the last chance. We need to be coming out after watching that with all these questions answered. If this is true I would expect it as it’s momentum after the Xbox reveal and keeps both parties within the spot light.
@playstation1995 XSX is definitely more powerful, more and more games are announced with better resolution and/or framerate than PS5, Gamepass is an incredible value, Microsoft has some arguments this time. Don't sleep on them, I'm not as confident as I was before. Even Spider-Man needs a performance mode to run at 4K 60 fps, this is not next-gen. :/
@ShogunRok If by 'a bit sick' you mean 'totally fed up', then yes I am too.
@Cornboyzz "more and more games are announced with better resolution and/or framerate than PS5"
What? Where are these 'facts' coming from? I've not seen a single third-party come out and say XSX will have a higher resolution or frame rate. I can make a 4k60 game on the PS4Pro now, anyone can if you limit your vision. So XSX could be higher but that could also be because they are less visionally demanding.
The difference in teraflops between the 2 is nothing btw. The difference is actually smaller than that between the PS4 Pro and XOX (and this means a lower % difference alas smaller performance gap) and the PS5 is able to stream uncompressed assets at the same rate as the XSX can do compressed so in theory less resources need to be wasted. On top of that 'I' say the best looking/running games have appeared on the PS4Pro in their first party offering. Teraflop != better, a 2070 has a lower teraflop count to a 5700-xt but 2070 wins in real world tests. Watch DigitalFoundry videos if you want more in-depth look. Game engines play a bigger role.
The thing MS has for it is GamePass BUT without XSX exclusives I doubt I will change my XOX just yet.
@Cornaboyzzz I think you’d find that a lot of what you’re saying simply isn’t true if you were to actually look at the facts.
Yes, the series x has a gpu advantage on paper. There’s more to the story about potential maximums though. Bottlenecks exist in the I/O pipeline, Microsoft hasn’t implemented the same ridiculously fast custom I/O system as the PS5. We’re going to have to wait and see what the two systems and their developers produce out of the systems which at the end of the day is all that really matters. Look at what the first party developers are squeezing out of the OG PS4 with the likes of TLoU2 and GoT. Arguably some of the best looking games of the generation even on the base PS4.
As for your more games announced I don’t think you’d find that to be true, and as for the resolution/FPS comment the ps5 has some games at 30fps some games at 60fps or higher just depends on the developers priorities.
TLDR; GTFOH with your misinformation 😉
Edit: as to your needs a performance mode for 4K60fps comment; I refer you to GT7 native 4K60FPS with ray traced reflections.
@dr_lovejoy Thanks for your answer, I only hope you're right, time will tell. There's already a confusion regarding Far Cry 6, and last one is Dynamic Voltage Games who announces 120 fps on XSX and 60 fps on PS5 for their last game, then responds this to Sony players after getting criticism : "Believe it or not, I didn't design the PS5. Your beef is with Sony"
@MarcG420 I'm not wasting time with disrespectful comments.
@Cornaboyzzz “Confusion surrounding Far Cry 6” I think he means the disclaimer where they were saying the Xbox one and one s versions weren’t going to be 4k 😂 was not in relation to the ps5 at all. As for that indie developer talking smack after trolls were trolling him; it’s highly likely he’s just explaining away a shoddy port to try and make more money out of the game (which based on the course of events for that game is clearly the case; announced as series x exclusive then announced for ps5 to try and make it profitable.).
But sure push your false narrative.
@Cornaboyzzz. Ps5 will still outsells x box again.word up son
@playstation1995 Without a doubt ! Word up
@OscarHTX If you get enough retweets, sure!
@Cornaboyzzz I fully expect the XSX to end up running a majority of third party games better just like the XOX over PS4Pro (though this time with less of a difference). However, Dynamic Voltage Games are obviously a bit special and better than the EAs, Ubisofts, Bungies and Infinity Wards that they can get twice the power out of a console that has ~10% teraflop increase. The only way this would be possible is they ran at a lower res on XSX and used something like DSLL to hit 4k or it'll be 4k but with much lower shadows, particles etc. But more than likely MS have given them money/help to improve on the game for XSX and use specific MS APIs. And given their own argument on WindowsCentral (GPU power = performance) would mean the PS5 version must run at over 100fps at the same quality. Will have to wait and see, as devs will say anything if enough money changes hands, just look at EPIC and their love of the PS5, that had nothing to do with Sony investing £250m in them (though not much really).
@dr_lovejoy Thanks for your insight !
@ShogunRok I'd prefer to get my info from the likes of those firm's that will be supplying and distributing the ps5 to every seller as I mentioned before they'll know before everyone else.
Maybe. The response we got from Sony after the DS5 hands on seems likely that they're gearing up for something in a cryptic kind of way. It would also make sense to counter xbox's event, and to be quite honest, it also seems likely Sony could outshine them regardless based on the PS5 being the biggest streamed gaming event in youtube history. Sony still have the UI to expand on and so much more extending to the DS5 specs, etc. More is definitely not a bad thing at this point and I feel Sony have played it smart so far, as to not lose people's interest. The way xbox are going seems likely that we will be sick of them talking about the empity promises of power and nothing to really take advantage of that the same way a first party studio would. I know I'm bored of the XSX already.
Sony is definitely going to have another PS5 event. They haven't presented the PS5 user interface, features, console port and announce the price.
There were rumors that they still have more unannounce games to show and they need to answer if the PS5 will be backwards compatible from all the previous Playstation console.
After the false rumours of pre orders, I don't believe anything this donut comes out with. I'll believe it when Sony actually announce it!!
I feel like a lot of these predictions that have come up true, are just people guessing and getting lucky. Otherwise, Sony could be sick of it too and have put false information out there to see where the leaks are coming from or just to discredit some of these people that have apparent reliable sources. It must be frustrating to work on a reveal, then have someone else reveal it like it was their right to.
Nah, ill believe it when it comes from Sony themselves.
@playstation1995 while I am fully on-board the Sony train, and wouldn't get an Xbox if it were free, it does us no good to put our head in the sand and ignore everything that the Xbox has.
Cross Platform titles all have to be written with the lowest common denominator in mind. Because of this, when we talk of visuals and frame rate (the only thing that seems to matter on the internet), its a certainty that the Xbox will have an edge over the PS5, even if its just a little bit, since scaling visuals is easy, and they won't be taking into account platform features that are not on both consoles.
Its the exclusive titles, where they will really push the instant loading and 3d audio, where we will see the PS5 shine.
@thedevilsjester. You devil you😁.you are right.the instant loading .3d audio.haptick feedback controller.thats?a huge win for ps5 plus the exclusive games is the best in the industry.word up son
