Re: Game of the Year: #2 - Baldur's Gate 3

a_brave_new_geek

I have zero interest in Spiderman, have not seen any movies nor would have any emotional connection whatsoever to a grown man in a latex jumpsuit.

However, I have seen some of the action in SM2 in several GOTY videos - it does look very, very fun.

Potentially what a "next gen" game really is.

Re: How the PS1's Amazing JRPGs Shaped My Life

a_brave_new_geek

I bought, read and cherished every copy of a magazine called Super Play - this really focussed on the SNES RPGs and gave insights into those that were not translated to English.

This article brings me back to the days of PS1 where I hunted down many of those referenced. Thanks!

I was just the right age for the content of the stories. The need to play JRPGs had laid dormant after the original FFVII.

Then, I played Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - GEDDIT!

Re: Hardware Review: PS Portal Is the Perfect PS5 Companion (For Some)

a_brave_new_geek

I was hoping to get a PS Portal and a PS5 slim to play in an EV.

I believe, for this set-up to be fully mobile, it would require some kind of starlink-style internet connection as both devices require a constant wi-fi connection.

A (multiple device) mobile data hotspot from a cell phone would probably not work?

I am sure there is a genius out there that could solve the below:

To be able to use the PS Portal, independent of geographic location, from the same wifi-network that your (home) PS5 is connected.

Until that is a possibility, the Switch rocks enough.

@Mikey856 Mate. I know what you mean. I completed Bloodbourne and DLC too! I love difficult but fair games. Larian games are not only challenging, they are on another level of "build" compared to From Software games (and nearly everything else out there I'd say).

I have just started playing Larian's previous game, Divinity Original Sin 2 (DOS2). Then I will play Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3).

Mate! It was initially tough. Rough. Opaque. I spent some time watching Fextralife's YouTube Guides. The reward for doing so has been SO GOOD. I understand it now when before I was ignorant about CRPGs.

The combat is very, very cool when you get to know the details.

DOS2 may well be a top 10 game for me (and I am only on Act 1 of 4).

Everything in DOS2 seems hand crafted and meaningful. There is no filler. And BG3 is regarded as a better game.

My advice. Spend a couple of hours (I know!) watching some Fextralife YouTube guides. They are enlightening, the guy does a decent job.

Then give it another go! BG3 may still not be for you but at least you tried.

Re: Community: Push Square Community's Best Game of All Time Has Been Decided

a_brave_new_geek

I initially rage quit this and I was so happy to come back to Yarnham (!) a few months later.

Games are so very varied these days though Bloodbourne is my favourite AAA video game though probably not my favourite OVERALL game.

A masterpiece and cannot wait to play the remaster on the PS6.

All they need to do is refine the Chalice Dungeons and slowly add more features/monsters/items to those dungeons ala Dead Cells and WOW.

Re: Civilization 6's Leader Pass DLC Makes Surprise Appearance on PS4

a_brave_new_geek

@stefan771 This game is probably the pinnacle for turn based strategy ESPECIALLY with all the DLC. Pick up the base game and see what you think. Then wait for a sale on ALL DLC if you enjoy it.

You could argue Stellaris or Crusader Kings or Victoria or Europa Universalis or Hearts of Iron are better but Civilisation kind of does it through all the timelines.

Having this on Switch is just ridiculous. From being hunched over an Atari ST in the 80s to playing this in the palm of your hand....

Re: The Last of Us: Part I (PS5) - A Better, More Beautiful Remake of a Modern Classic

a_brave_new_geek

The Last of Us Remastered alongside Unchartered 4 on PS4 were the first two video games that I played after a 10 year video game hiatus (2008-2018 just board games).

I was BLOWN AWAY by The Last of Us.

I LOVED the second game too.

I am glad this version exists. This is one of the few games I will likely come back to again throughout my life to revisit those memories of awe from the first play through.

Like my favourite board games that get remade or updated (Through the Ages, Terra Mystica, Eclipse, Agricola, Netrunner, Summoner Wars), The Last of Us is a masterpiece and deserves the same treatment.

It is Bottled Lightning that should continue to be updated as each Sony Console releases.

Re: Ravenswatch Is a Dark Fantasy Roguelike That Brings Fairy Tales to Life, Coming to PS5 in 2023

a_brave_new_geek

Curse of the Dead Gods was very good when it was released and has become improved over time by the devs with balance and content. I strongly recommend perseverance to understand the combat system. Difficult but fair. Stoked for Ravenswatch!

Anyhow, roguelikes are not for all. Hades is probably still the best starting point with Dead Cells/Slay the Spire also on the podium.
