Hammerwatch II is a gorgeous-looking cooperative hack and slasher, out today on PC but promised for PS5 and PS4 later this year. Players intrigued by grognard games like Baldur's Gate or Pillars of Eternity might find something to like here, albeit something played at a much quicker pace, with more focus on its four-player co-op.
Choosing from five distinct classes (Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Wizard, Warlock), players create a customizable character and explore a giant open world. King Roland is holding out against Blight the Horrible and his dragon army, with monstrous beasts and a legion of the undead thrown in for good measure. The combat looks fun and frenetic, with each class having different skills and abilities to unlock.

I understand there is a hype for Baldur's Gate right now but this game does not look like an alternative. I don't see any turn based combat...
More Diablo than BG3, I think.
In fact, it reminds me of some C64/Amiga titles back in the day (Times Of Lore?)

Just co-op, no single player? Was looking forward to it. It even has a physical edition.

They mention BG3 in the title because BG3 is being googled a ton and they want to appear in those search results. Click farming, if you will.

"Play alone, or in online co-op mode with up to 3 other players."
So yes to single player but no couch co-op which seems like a stupid omission?
This looks more like "Gauntlet" than Baldur's Gate.
But as many have said before me, everyone wants to be affiliated with BG3 now.

As someone who played the first Hammerwatch game and was thoroughly underwhelmed, I wouldn’t get too hyped for this.
At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised to see PushSquare publish an article comparing the next Fifa game to Baldurs Gate 3 also....
I played it yesterday on PC it was fun. Multiplayer was awful but solo it was fun, if a little generic. Definitely nothing like BG3 more like Chronicon / early Zelda games with less originality.
Some tired stuff in there like fetch quests / generic fantasy classes. Modding also confined to PC only.
Great combat but mediocre game overall.
